Herschel I believe was faster. Than Dorsett so was Bo, so was E Dickerson, finally so was Chris Johnson. But Dorsett speed was insane.

Tony Dorsett is my favorite running back ever. No running back hit the hole with speed and acceleration like he did. Its ridiculous how underated he is. Heisman Trophy winner also. And im not a cowboys fan, I love the Colts. Thats how special he is to me. Love you TD. One more thing take a look at all the long runs he had in his career, just running by the defense.

I love Emmitt, love what he did for the 'Boys and all that. Love Demarco, Duane Thomas, Calvin Hill, all of the great Dallas runners. But if I need somebody to go the distance, put Dorsett in the "I" five yards deep and pitch it too him. He's so underrated.

Yeah similar I have been watching NFL for Over 40 years and I have never seen a RB go through the line faster than TD Massively underrated these days . You were on the edge of your seat watching Dorsett because you knew he could score at any time Bill Parcels rates him the hardest offensive player he had to coach against . That is some compliment

As he step over the legs of the first defender in the hole and then makes that sharp cut to his right off the middle linebacker of The Vikings on that 99 yard run, I knew then that he was gone. He literally went from zero to top speed in about five steps.

Funny how hard work makes things look easy. Dorsett was in phenomenal shape, very well muscled. He put in time in the weight room. Saw him on American Gladiators and he really filled out the leotard, lol.

Here is a list of RBs who ran faster than Dorsett: Jeff Demps Curtis Dickey Sultan McCullough Michael Bennett Herschel Walker Jamaal Charles Raheem Mostert CJ Spiller Laverne Smith Warrwick Dunn Butch Woolfolk Stephen Davis Reggie Bush Bo Jackson Joe Delaney Dri Archer Adrian Peterson Each one of these RBs have verified fully automatic timed 100m dashes faster than 10.57. Dorset ran a hand timed 100 yard dash in 9.57. That converts to about 10.71 fully automatic timed 100m dash. Some of those backs were on Dorsett's talent level. Other backs who were, in my opinion, over Dorsett in talent level and ran faster: Eric Dickerson 9.4 hand timed 100yds OJ Simpson 9.5 hand timed 100yds. V

I had to watch this highlight video just to remind myself just has super fast Tony Dorsett was. Amazing/lightning speed. I couldn’t have been more than 10 or 11 years old watching this man at home on Sunday afternoons. I appreciate his speed, & contribution to the NFL way more now than back then. I salute U TD!! 🫡

I'll never forget it, me an my childhood partner were really young. We started playing one on one football in the backyard. Before I had developed any moves of my own he was already displaying them. I asked "who taught you how to do all those moves like dat". His reply, Tony Dorset.

His skills were highlighted by the effective efforts of the entire team to get him space. The most talented player does not look special on an average team. There was nothing average about any of T.D.s teammates. What a beautiful combination of rare skill and great team work.

I had the great privilege to meet Tony in Oxnard my grandfather used to take me to their camp....I carried his helmet for him to and from practice along with all the other legendary Cowboys....man I sure wish I had all the pics and autographs I had....I have no idea what happened to them.....

Fact check me. But I think Tony Dorsett may be the only player to win the college rushing title for a season, total rushing yards at the end of his college career. Win the NCAA title, and win the Heisman. Then proceed to win NFL rookie of the year, win a Super Bowl, and get inducted into the Hall of Fame. I don’t know of any other player in history to match those accomplishments.

Most underrated of the 70's-80's running backs. The guy was one of the best there was in short yardage power running. He ran like he was 240 in short yardage.

It's 2020 and I still say I will start Tony dorsett in my backfield against any back in history and he only average 17.5 calories a game for career imagine if he had 20 cans I'm sure Emmett will be chasing him.

TD made watching the NFL worth watching. Incredibly durable . Imagine only 190 pounds taking the beatings for years, high school, college, NFL and even today 2022 walks around very well with no lingering injuries without any indication that he ever played in the NFL.

As a long-time Redskins fan, I hated Tony Dorsett. The 'Skins would have a lead on the Cowboys, and suddenly Dorsett would break out for a large gain. Watching these highlights, one can see how hard it was to defend against him, because his moves were often instinctive -- and therefore unpredictable! Truly one of the greats!

Touchdown Tony did have that incredible burst of speed, especially between the tackles. He would burst past lbs before they could shed blocks; and if safeties were split too wide , neither could cut him off. Those diving missed tackle attempts. Once he ran over a Ram db at the goal line after crossing pattern reception. Nite-nite, db was out cold, got hit by a speeding bullet.

There’s my favorite cowboys receiver blocking downfield #88 Drew Pearson! I used to see him make those one handed sideline catches and then go try to emulate him after the game! Out in the front yard trying to do the same thing!

Something few people think to mention is that Dorsett had an aesthetically beautiful running style to watch. He just looked smooth, fast, and cool. Many backs are certainly effective, but do not look as lovely doing it as did Tony Dorsett (or Eric Dickerson). It's not the most important thing, but it's one aspect.

The pure running back. Beautiful to watch. I'm a Cowboy hater but had to admire him. Nobody ever seemed to get a clean shot at him. I had the occasion to stand next to him at an event and I couldn't believe how small he was. I see a listing of him as 5'11". He looked more like 5'9" to me.

He won a National Championship at Pitt, gets drafted by Cowboys and wins a Superbowl in the same year. He's in the college football hall of fame , the professional football hall of fame, won the Heisman, had the longest run from scrimmage of 99 yards. No running back has ever had such a great career. One of the fastest and the best backs in football history.

Several RB's had greater careers. Marcus Allen Natl champ, Heisman, College and NFL hof, SuperBowl, SuperBowl MVP, Rookie of the year, longest run in SB history. Plenty of backs ran faster too.

Yes, Tony Dorsett is one of the greatest running backs ever. However, people need to remember just how good the Cowboys offensive line was then and even during Emitt Smith's career. The offensive line has always been a staple for Dallas. Also, the highlight at 4:55, perfectly demonstrates how quickly Tony could accelerate.
