A fretless bass either sounds like a harp of angels or just a series of farts and the skill involved in not making it sound like the latter is enormous...I have grown such an immense respect for you!!Keep up the good work buddy 🤠

I like to say "The greater an instrument's capacity for beauty, the more skill required to not make it sound absolutely horrible." Fretless bass is definitely on up that scale. As a guitar player who dabbles in bass and insists on owning a fretless among them... there's a reason I have no youtube videos of it.

Electric fretless will always be my go to, but I’d love to add real upright to my arsenal. The electric doesn’t have that depth of sound. The Takamine comes close and enables me to play upright type stuff. I’m just very “okay” on the upright. 🤩😂🙄

@@FretlessMonster My upright is a 1967 Kay. It's a fine piece, and I play at bars, taverns and deck parties here in Southern Maryland. And the local firehouse has bluegrass night every Friday so there's a nice mix of instruments. As to your sound, I have to say yours was among the best tone that I heard live back in the day. Especially when the Firm played hockey arenas. Saw you twice at the old Capital Centre in Largo, Maryland, and your tone was as clear and prominent as was John Entwhistle's and Geddy Lee's in the same airspace. The only other guys I recall with fretless in those days was the late Boz Burrell of Bad Company and the guy for Pete Frampton, Stanley Sheldon.

Damn! The warmth and depth of the tone from that thing is really something, she's a pretty old girl too. Love the finish. I've just started playing acoustic bass, I'm in the cheapo bass world but I'm going down the "make it a decent playable instrument" route... plus I need to make sure the wife doesn't have anything heavy or pointed within her reach before building/bringing home any more basses 😆. Thanks for the lovely demo and sharing this beautiful instrument.

Haha. I totally understand. Cheapie instruments can sound great though with a few tweaks. Most of the sound comes from the hands anyway. 👍🏻👍🏻🤩
