@@christopherp.hitchens3902 He is one of most famous British comedians ever, still a household name and much loved 56 yrs after his tragic suicide in 1968. A true UK comic legend.

@@christopherp.hitchens3902 I can hardly believe that you have never heard of this tv superstar. At his height, pub landlords complained that everyone stayed in on a Sunday night to watch Hancock's Half Hour rather than go out, therefore depriving them of custom. From 1954 to 1959 on radio and from 1956 to 1963 on tv, he was the biggest name in comedy, peaking in 1961 with the BBC series of Hancock. His radio shows are still heard weekly on BBC4 Extra and are still as brilliant as ever. His supporting casts on both tv and radio and the writing by Alan Simpson and Ray Galton, who also wrote Steptoe and Son, remains unsurpassed. Seriously, he deserves to be checked out.

@@stephenguppy7882 - Well, I am from London and I hadn’t known anything about Jimmy Savile either. I have for most of my life NOT been interested in pop-culture and particularly, not television. I am curious though and will be looking into his life!
