I played COUNTLESS hours of this one on the Gamecube. Having played all of them from that time and looking back I think it's one of my favorites. I for one really loved that they eased up on the timer with this one. One of the things I honestly liked least about 1-3 was the pressure of a very short timer in every single play; this was the perfect compromise to me, letting you cruise around and just have fun in between goals. Blow off some steam and try again when are where you want if you flub one, or keep going and do multiple goals in one go. They put so much in to these levels and it always bummed me out that I only ever got to experience them in a blink of an eye. My personal faves would probably be the 2 T.H.U.G. entries that came directly after, but if you weren't in middle school in 2003-2004 you'd probably cringe inside out at those now since they're quite literally a Jackass feature stuffed into the game. But the gameplay and being able to pick your board up and walk was top notch. 4 stands out to me because it was probably the strongest and most playable entry in the classic arcade style Tony Hawk formula. No having to get invested in an MTV style narrative, just skating and simple but satisfying slapstick humor. I always kept picking it up here and there even long after the others came along. And the soundtrack in this one was arguably one of if not the best out of all of them. If they ever did a good reboot of the series I'd basically want it to be like this but just with the convenient "pick up your board" mechanic from the story based games.

Thank you for this response really happy to hear what made you love it so much. Funny enough my personal favorite is THUG 2 which I plan on getting around to at some point.

It’s also my favourite for similar reasons. I actually didn’t like it at first but over time it’s my favourite.

I have fond memories from the PS1 release as well, it's simplified as it doesn't have people to talk to, they're replaced by icons, but the open ended design is still there, levels are a bit different and some are missing, but it's still a great game and a technical achievement on the console. Later, in the mid 00's I played the PC version, which is basically the same as the 6th gen consoles, and it's the first TH game I ever completed all levels, the other being Project 8 on the PSP. At that time, there were more realistic games, Shenmue from 1998, for instance, and many more, I always thought that the Tony Hawk series was designed to be cartoonish and funny, this is something TH4 excels, as the characters are so funny, not only that, but the challenges too. This is why I find it really strange that they changed its vibe in later generations, for instance, Project 8 for the PS2/PSP has this cartoonish vibe and this is totally absent from the PS3 release, the game feels so different.

I agree about preferring the arcade style of the first three. Not only did the maps open up but the more they opened up, the blander they got. I tend to lump 4 in with that but truthfully we get some crazier theme type maps like Zoo. So I think much like that time in gaming it was a transitional phase more than anything with elements of both styles. I didn’t particularly like the jackass like humor direction they took going into underground either or think they needed such story focus. Good review so far, back to it.

Of the classic style Tony Hawk games, 3 is my favorite, but that could be because the only version of 2 I've played is the GBA version. But, I just bought 2X, so I'll soon know how it stands up to 3 and 4.

When you talk about multi-platform reviews, you should really go in-depth or at least bring up the differences of having the Xbox version compared to the other consoles such as: resolution, graphics, frame rate, exclusive content ect. I really didn't like your review and I hope you improve because I really like the original Xbox content.

I really don’t think frame rate and resolution between different versions of 20 year old games needs to be discussed here, that’s something for a different channel I really didn’t like your comment and I hope you improve because I really like the “comment content”

Hey Mr. “Comment Content Creator”, why would he need to talk about other versions of this game? The video is review for the Xbox version, it even says that in the title.
