@@souldreamer9056 When the show began, Jackie Aprile was the Boss, Junior and Tony were Capos, and Paulie was in Tony's crew. When JA died, Junior and Tony had a bit of a power struggle, and when things cooled down, the power structure was that Junior of the titular Boss (a glorified figurehead), Tony was the official Underboss (but actual main boss), and in this scene Tony made Paulie the Capo of his old crew, with Furio coming in to fill Paulie's old role as soldier/enforcer. Paulie wasn't made official Underboss until the final season.

vjmlhds - vjmlhds - Thanks for taking the time to write, but I am well versed in the lore of the Sopranos and it’s characters. My question to the original poster was actually intended as rhetorical. He claimed that Paulie was underboss, which he wasn’t. He was captain for the Soprano/Gaultieri crew for most of the show. So I asked the OP if Paulie was underboss, who was running his crew, to see if he had an answer for that, which he didn’t.

Chris moves up the ranks and survives an assassination attempt, pussy juggles being in the mob and fbi informant Richie trying to take the throne from tony Lots of memorable murders like patsy, matt, sean, richie, elvis impersonator and pussy. No, he was promoted to capo. For most of the series (until season six) there's no one actually occupying the underboss position. It's just Tony (acting boss), Silvio (consiglieri) and Paulie (Tony's favourite capo) and the other capos. That's why in season 6, when Tony gets shot by Junior, Paulie doesn't take the rails of the family (because he's just a capo), Silvio does. Then, when Tony gets better and comes back he official takes the title of Boss and it's until then when he gives the position of Underboss to Paulie. However, he shortly loses it to Bobby.

After seeing many saints of Newark and now knowing how young Paulie started in this thing of theirs, I gotta say he got that promotion real late

Paulie was Johnny Boy's body guard. When Tony took over Johnny Boy's crew he became Tony's body guard.

One of tony's biggest mistakes was not treating Paulie well, Paulie likely had Tony killed in the end. The only other mistake worse was keeping Patsy alive. Paulie and Patsy almost certainly put the hit on Tony

Patsy yeah, paulie no... Paulie would never be involved with tony dying. The guy put a painting of him up in his living room...

0:46 Be honest: Tony getting furious with Paulie for eating a box of candy meant for him would not be that outlandish.
