It wasn't just that Tony almost died in space, it was that he alone got a first hand look at what was coming. The ships, the reinforcements, the battle that he knows they would have lost. The immensity of the universe beyond Earth, and the overwhelming nature of the threat that was coming for the planet. No wonder it left its scars, and none of the other Avengers ever really understand.

I never really thought it about it before until I watched WandaVision but the J.A.R.V.I.S. program is extremely vital to who he is as a sentient being who can not only think and adapt but also fall in love. Tony made JARVIS to be adaptive so that his computer was anticipating his actions and feelings before Tony even voiced them. When Fury notified Tony about the missile, Tony ordered JARVIS to put all power into the thrusters to which JARVIS replied he already had. Then when JARVIS's system calculated the probability of Tony's survival he immediately contacted Pepper. So, with JARVIS, being programmed in regards to Tony's actions and feelings, JARVIS is inclined to 1. help save lives 2. anticipate Tony's regards to his interpersonal relationships. Combine that to Ultron and the mind stone, and you get Vision, capable of not only understanding and anticipating complicated world issues but also of falling in love and feeling emotion. Such an interesting character.

Incredibly well said mate. You just described why JARVIS is to me one of the best almost sidekicks in superhero movies, one of my favorite characters. I think that's what set the MCU apart from many other superhero movies, and why it was so successful. It deeply humanized the characters - beneath the superhero suits they are people, ones who feel emotions, fall in love, feel fear, have personalities, have and deeply care for friends, and so on. Characters we can relate to and have empathy for. And likewise I get the sense it used the characters' personal names rather than hero names a lot more, while exploring the relationship between the person and the hero persona they wear - the repeated "I am Iron Man" quote that carries different meaning each time.
