Dave Price was a consummate musician and performer and it was such a pleasure to have known him and have the chance to see him sing in the duo Lamplight and with the rock group Cold Comfort.
This is my take on a very fine song, co-written with poet and playwright Tom Kelly, that mentions three people who are famous in the Northeast of England.
Coffey Johnny was a showman, Tommy on the bridge busked on the Newcastle bridge and straddled the boundary line between Gateshead and Newcastle and the last verse written by Tony Wilson mentions Dolly Peel was a local character who would stop the press gangs from taking men during the Napoleonic wars.
