This is the first video ive ever watched where everything fell away and i felt like you were speaking directly to me. Like we were just two people sitting on a couch talking. Thank you for reminding me that I'm what makes my art special and that sometimes i need to limit my scope. Ive been watching your videos for a while now and you're always so insightful. It's always a refreshing take and i look forward to the next piece of wisdom you impart.

I love the small scenes in between your topics/pointers! I've often been overthinking and overwhelmed with not knowing what to choose when making something. And then it seems like I just become lazy, or just stuck in a place where I don't do anything, instead of just choosing something - even if it isn't the right choice. The wrong choice is better than no choice/ action. Your work is truly inspiring, and you are connecting so well with your viewers! Much love

There is a great « classic » (i.e.: Old) article by the Heath brothers (Chip and Dan) that is part of a collection of articles/short stories. The collection is called The Myth of the Garage and the article I believe is titled « You! Get back IN that box. » The idea is that contraints can help. Thought you might find it a fun read.

I was so glad that I got into videography before I found this out. I may not have even started if I actually knew how deep the rabbit hole is. Now I just bring my camera everywhere and see what I can do. It helps me stay away from the paradox of choice fatigue.

I like how this video was made with a 4:3 aspect ratio (I think). A literal limiting aspect ratio compared to a bigger 16:9 ratio. Besides, the 4:3 is more nostalgic in my opinion.

Yes, film school was nice for being told what to make, and having a framework. Then, around graduation, you start to crave freedom to make what you want, which is perfect.

Love your videos! Always something unexpected. Loved the Mayo. As for gear - I agree. We filmed with a Canon M50 and a GoPro for over 3 years. I still love the videos we created. It was a great place to start and to learn without too much complexity. When I stepped up to a Canon R6, our videos did take a leap up in quality. The color, the stabilization, the LENS!!! I wouldn't want to go back to filming with an entry-level camera, but it was the perfect gear at the time. It is capturing the story that is important - and just making video after video after video. 😳 P.S. I always look forward to your videos. Thanks!

My camera doesn't auto focus and it's one of those limitations that gave me stronger legs because I need to get up and adjust the focus all the time when filming myself. One day though, I'll be able to afford gear that does auto focus. My content might not change too much, but it will be a little easier.

Hello Jake, thank you for this video! I'm a music producer but I still found your message helpful. Which instruments I use? which scale? what about the arrangement? Every time I start a new project I feel this "urge" to have everything figure it out as quick as possible, the drums, the bass, the verse, the chorus, and this makes me quit a lot of my projects because "not good already".
