To me he's using a sexual metaphor for expressing this sense of boredom with life and always needing more all the time to keep stimulated, more intensity, deeper experiences, anything to stave off the boredom of the status quo and feel SOMETHING in his jaded existence. I don't get romance from that at all, the lyrics seem pretty clear to me.

Maybe try the pot if you haven’t heard it before? It has all the trademarks of most tool songs (polyrhythms, beat switches ect) but it also has a bit of a funk(y) element that isn’t in a lot of their stuff. Killer vocals and bass groove At the end of the day, everyone has their own musical opinions and all of them are totally valid 🤟🏻
@w.geoffreyspaulding6588

Perhaps they are just too heavy? They are metal after all. I cannot listen to them for more than one or two songs at a time because they are so intense....and being older it affects me more. BUT: the polyrhythms and transitions and the incredible drumming and bass just feed something in my musical soul. So I take them in small doses. Were I young, I’d probably have them on ALLOT.

@@w.geoffreyspaulding6588 I am older as well and have been making music for 60 years. I played in my first rock band in 1968 and have played in many bands since then. I play multiple instruments, guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, drums, euphonium and others. Heavy music is okay with me, the very first concert I attended was in 1969 and the band was Led Zeppelin. What a great concert that was. I recognize Tool's musicianship and it is the very highest caliber. The problem is their music sounds to me like is is a compilation of the many, many other bands that I have enjoyed over the last 60 years.

No....you shouldn’t catch any shit for saying that. Zeppelin is my favorite band. Floyd second. Tool came crashing into my sonic universe only last year, and I was immediately gobsmacked. Their shear overwhelming talent and skill cannot be denied, even by those who don’t like the band. Because you specifically called out Tool and Zeppelin together, now you REALLY have to listen to No Quarter by Zeppelin and then the Tool cover. Tool makes it their own....doesn’t try to imitate. I love bother versions, for different reasons.
