I have two sets from Tekton that were ordered through Amazon because of the great reviews they received. I want to avoid ordering tools through mail order in the future though. I have preferrence for getting needed tools at the local places instead now. My reasons being 1.) Put more funds back into my local economy through the physical stores 2.) The inconvenience of having to warranty a broken tool through mailing it off and waiting for it to be repaired and sent back or waiting for a replacement. When the ratcheting end of one of my Gearwrench wrenches came apart it was more convenient to go back to the Advanced Auto Parts store and get it replaced. The "Big Three" auto part store are closet to me, but I wish the NAPA store was too. I like their Carlyle tools they have a good reputation and the "Professional" branding they carry appears more legitimate than O'Reilly"s tool line. I know where and when the Snap-on and Matco tool trucks roll through my area so I can always go by one of those if I need to. Keep up the great work 3T!

I love my Tekton wrenches, bought a Metric set in 7-19 mm range. Wish I had bought the full set because now I want the larger sizes too. They seem plenty sturdy for starting out in the automotive trade. Eventually I want to buy a set of Snap-On Flank Drive (with my student discount, otherwise I'd probably get Milwaukee or Carlyle), but when I do upgrade I'll be happy to put the Tekton wrenches in my home toolbox. I'd also recommend any of the Braun LED lights sold at Harbor Freight, they're new since this video was made but are an amazing bargain as well. With anything HF sells of course look for a coupon to bring the price down even more...

Tekton also makes good impact sockets. No issues with mine over the last year. Have had a few coworkers break some of my torx bits from them (either by putting a good size impact on them or by pulling on them hard and twisting them because they don't hold them dead on). If tekton makes it for a good price I'll buy it. I personally have had no problems with their tools when used properly.

I own a couple of Gearwrench ratchets, as well as Snap-on, and have had no problems with them, so far. I have seen (on video) the Gearwrench shanks bend, versus the Snap-on, which did not bend, however, it did take a LOT of torque to cause the damage. (Note: If a fastener is extremely tight, use a breaker bar or impact). Under more reasonable use, I believe the Gearwrench ratchets will serve their purpose just fine, and I must say I am very pleased with mine. As for Tekton wrenches, the only problem I have with them is the jaws can spread in high torque situations, but I always use the box end to break loose fasteners, and then use the open end, if necessary, to turn out the fastener, so jaw spreading and rounding of fasteners is not a problem. My Snap-on wrenches jaws do not spread, and are overall, a better tool, but, as you point out, the Tekton wrenches will get the job done in the majority of situations, and they are a very good wrench, overall, especially for the price. Great Video. Keep them coming!

Most tools/ratchets break due to user error and not a fault with the tool. As you said it took a lot of torque to bend, which is what the breaker bar is for.

I for one really like mid range tools I find them very useful I believe that its very important to prioritize your tools and not become brand addicted and tool poor. I like to think of it as three levels of tools 1. snap on/matco/mac for tools you use everyday 2. sk/gearwrench/napa/sunnex etc for tools used once a week 3 pittsburge/auto-craft etc for once a month or less of use obviously their are others like channel lock and irwin for certain things and some stuff i think some companies make as good as anyone else but overall thats how i like to view it. you make a very good point about the mid level tools. i think sometimes people forget there is options in between harbor freight and snap on

@@TonyTheTechnician thanks, I have just purchased a few tekton items so far so good. Now I am on the hunt to increase my impact sockets. Thinking about the sunex master sets. Thanks again oh and I enjoy the Amazon tools you show case. Not all of us have access to a snap on truck. Although i would spend the money on a 3/8 locking flex snap on ratchet. I think snapon makes the best ratchet.

I started out with SK and moved up to Matco,Mac &Snap On. I now find myself using the mid range tools more often and don't see the difference as long as the work gets done. Be smart there will be time to get the higher end tools later when you get established in the trade.

I LOVE my SK ratchet set. I love the handles on them. Round and really nice to grip. It was my grandfathers set and i use the hell out of it. Never gave me any issues. It’s an awesome set

I had the extendable HF ratchet and I exchanged it for the Icon. Let’s see how it works. Had 3 of the HF ratchets and exchanged them if I had issues. No questions asked. The handle does end short of the end. Need to review the ratchet and wrenches from Icon as I use them at work. Pump repair is the game for me!!

I bought the harbor freight 37 piece impact socket set and I am impressed with it. I use it a lot. Also duralast makes really decent flex head ratchets.

Cheater bar on a ratchet? That’s what a breaker bars for.

pjm8047 a lot of people don’t use breaker bars though. Especially a lot of weekend warriors or someone with very limited tools. But yes your right. A breaker bar would be the way to go

That hood light is complete crap, a mechanic I work with has it and he said it was a fucking waste of money and he upgraded to one that Matco sells. The only tools brands worth buying from is Matco, Snap-On, GearWrench, and Craftsman. If your on a budget then Craftsman, GearWrench and Tekton is absolutely the way to go. And the metal rod does not go all the way through the Snap-On soft grip ratchets.

A_aron 37 well your buddy must think it's a toy and must be throwing it around bc I have had mine for like 6 months and it is doing amazing. and idk how he thinks it's a waste of money. it costs 30 dollars and it's great. he paid what 150 or more for the matco one. now that's a waste if you ask me

A_aron 37 there are certain accessories and tools you can buy at a cheaper cost and still have a great tool everyone has a decent product. you don't have to own 100% tool truck brand tools. unless you just like throwing money around lol

7:00 - I think you are wrong about how far the metal goes down on the Pittsburgh ratchet. I checked mine with a magnet and it stops at the red ring, or about 3/8” from the end.

Kade Olson lmao if you follow the channel. You would know all these tools are less then a year old and get used to rebuild my 85 Camaro project car. The car wasn’t rebuilt with magic. Also you would know I take very good care of my tools and always clean them. This video is pretty old btw

Harbor Freight is REALLY shitty now.......better off with Home Depot(husky) or Lowes(Kobalt/Craftsman)
@TonyTheTechnician

I just looked at the craftsman boxes and they are garbage. No double rolled steel. Extremely thin. I would not recommend craftsman boxes. But hand tools craftsman and Kobalt are good. Some of the craftsman stuff is over priced but still a decent line up 👍
