I started out with harbor freight under my teacher and mechanic shop co owner/partner. It was what he used so I never thought more about it. We hired a new employee about a year ago for his HVAC and electrical expertise and this kid (funny he isn't much younger then me at my age of 25) brought his tools in and had almost exclusively tekton and gear wrench. I've been impressed with both but the tekton more so. Even though I'll still use the HF for my mobile repair truck, I have since started switching to tekton my self and being patient and waiting for them to release more so I can swap my other tools too.

Well Tony liked your video.. Thanks.. As a winter project I have been going through all my tools and getting rid of tools I don't use. I did buy the SAE and Metric socket rails that you showed. Yes I have OCD as well and every socket holder has to be filled or it is a major write-up in the Air Force Consolidated Tool Kit program. This is my private tool box by the way. Anyway as you know HF does not sell single sockets so I have gone to Home Depot and Lowe's looking for sockets and I can't find all the sizes that I need. Do you think some of the sizes on the rails don't exist ? Just for example I can't find the 5/8 inch 1/4 drive socket in the deep well or short. Another bummer is I bought the 1/2 inch drive deep well SAE and metric sockets and they won't fit into my top drawer.. to tall. I wanted all my sockets to be in one drawer. I went to Auto Zone as well searching for missing sockets with some minor success. What do you think ?

This video is disturbing. You're mentioning TYPES of tools that can be handy to have, and that you got them from HF, but ignoring that they are lower quality at HF and won't work as well, will wear out faster. For example those miniature pliers. You're trying to play them off as if being small, they don't need to be built as well. Wrong. Being smaller, they need to be all the more high precision. They don't have box joints like many of the competitors do and will get a lot of play in them due to this so if used often, will not be a Lifetime Tool. This kind of tool is not meant to be a wear item so if not designed to last a lifetime, it's money better spent elsewhere. A 2nd example is the step drill bit, which is a wear item but one which you've barely used, yet are suggesting it's good by merely being able to drill through sheet metal? What CAN'T drill through sheet metal? Sorry but you''re losing credibility.
@TonyTheTechnician
7 жыл бұрын
Stinky Cheese no your not paying attention to anything I'm saying your just someone who hates harbor freight. for one, we all no harbor freight items don't last as long as better quality tools. but guess what, that's why a majority of the tools from harbor freight are used for diyers not on an every day basis. do you think I use all these tools on a daily basis, hell no. do they work well for home use. hell yes. and if you pay attention I said I haven't used the stepper bit except for my firewall but when I used it, it worked great. I did not say hey this worked on my firewall go ahead and buy it, it will work great for 1 inch thick steel. what my point was is if you have thin steel you need to make holes and not spend 100 dollars. this bit will get you by. get off your high horse. these are tools for people that don't need to spend 10000's of dollars on tools they are just going to use them around the house. and if you ever used tools in your life and worked on cars it's not common that you need the small pliers set unless you are doing very light duty jobs. so unless you think your Hercules and your using these small pliers for everything, they will do just fine. not everyone has to buy expensive tools. no one is trying to impress you. if you want to complain about harbor freight then go make your own channel and create a video about it. then you can watch that.
@stinkycheese804
7 жыл бұрын
1) I watched the video and payed attention. Maybe you meant to convey something other than what you did. 2) I don't just hate HF. I shop there, have bought many things, but recognize the differences. 3) Even a DIYer, when they get older and wiser, appreciates higher quality tools. 4) Life doesn't revolve around working on cars. Why not a decent plier set good for all kinds of different tasks? However, I think you haven't done a lot of work on cars, at least not newer ones because these days there is a lot of electrical troubleshooting and repair involved, unless you are only the type to throw a new part on and see if it fixes instead of an actual diagnosis. 5) You are better off trying to plead your case with someone who hasn't already stated that you were losing credibility. It's always nice to save money, but don't let it cloud the issues of buying better quality tools, not necessarily thousands of dollars worth. Why do people always state this ridiculous nonsense, as if the choice has to be the lowest end crap or the most expensive luxury tools? Never mind, I don't care why.
@TonyTheTechnician
7 жыл бұрын
Stinky Cheese truthfully I don't care what you think of the tools I have and use. and as far as wisdom with time that's not true at all either. Some people are just stuck in there old ways and refuse to learn. if you don't want to listen to my opinion then find yourself somewhere else. obviously I have used these tools with no issues and until I come across an issue I will continue to give my honest opinion. and as far as experience on a car I know exactly what they consist of both new and old. It doesn't matter how old you are that doesn't mean you have experience. I don't pretend to know shit that I don't. I'm always honest with my subscribers and if your to butt hurt about it then don't watch. and as far as the topic of using the tools for automotive jobs, that is what my channel is about so I'm not going into whether a tool is all around good for every job. I dont need to plead my case to anyone, i know exactly what my opinion is and i know what works on the jobs i do. if your not happy with my opinion or HF tools then go buy something else or watch something else. dont watch my video to just talk shit. thanks for watching!

Have you tried using the wall hanger on the socket trays? It looks like the sockets would stay on just fine. I'd give it a try.

😂😂😂 I tried the only way I could get them to stay was some silicone on the bottom of each one

Surprisingly a tool that I've had a lot of success with and use a lot more often than I thought I would is the really cheap angle grinder. It's like $15 but there is coupons all the time for like $10 but I've had it for about 8 months and use it at least once a week if not more depending on what I'm doing and it has treated me very well. Even the cheap cut off wheels have been holding up quite nicely.

Those harbor freight rails have a lifetime warranty, I've used it before when available tech was throwing his away for newer name brand ones.

Craftsman socket rails with the ball detents are the best. Grab the whole rail of whatever size drive, metric or standard (grey or black) and have the correct socket every time. Like $15 for a set. Not those old metal pieces of junk.

The Doyle pliers are decent, the Pittsburgh pliers can be OK, you just have to be careful picking them out. Use the he'll out the step bits. Would the pop pin pliers work for pulling the Bosch 5 pin relays?

Bill Burr's long lost brother from another mother.
i tried staying away from harbor freight cause most of my tools i have are from there. I tried adding different name brands to my tool collection and shop at lowe's our home depot but always end up going back to harbor freight and buying the same tool cause it's cheaper and it gets the job done. I'm just a dyi and fix my own car. My buddy who is also a master tech at toyota borrowed my harbor freight impact gun after his snap on broke, i haven't seen my gun since.

Good video Going to try the clip pullers, However the ratchets are Crap. Dont buy those. Magnetic trays are also crap. magnet is too strong for the glue that holds it to the tray comes right off.
