If the non voltage tester isn't good for proving dead, then what is that good for? Because if I need to verify if its dead, then I'll do it right away with a normal voltage tester. I was thinking abotu buying one. But IDK in what situation non contact should be use.

I'm 15 and about to finish school. I want to be an electrician and was wondering if the apprenticeships will provide these or whether I will need to purchase them before going to my first day on site?

You won’t need to purchase them for your first day. If you have a good employer they should supply you with tools
