Friday I'm in Love - The Cure. Nice single note line which is just played on a D chord and easy but interesting strum pattern. There is a Bm in there which is a barre chord obviously, but can be fluffed and just played as an upper triad.

I couple I liked when starting out were "Animal Instinct" by the Cranberries and "Find the river" by REM. They have some Cadd9 and Dsus chords but I think that still counts as beginner friendly. Maybe only small-a "alternative" though :)

That's funny because most of the things I want to learn are way out of my reach. It's always either the intro or the riff that makes you think oh okay I can do this but then the verse and bridge drops and youre dead.

I find this true. Learn the songs you like because you’ll know them. You’ll be able to express yourself through your interpretation. Once you’re confident enough you’ll surprise yourself as to how fast you can pick up “common beginner songs”
@deaddoll1361

@@falcodarkzz I think the rational is if you really like a song, you'll practice it to death, whereas learning one you dislike is hard work, regardless of how "good it'll be for you". Keep in mind that the majority of people who start learning an instrument give up fairly quickly.

Nothing else matters by Metallica 4. Fake plastic trees by Radiohead 5. boulevard of broken dreams by green day 6. Whole lotta love by led zeppelin 8. Nutshell by Alice in chains 9. Rooster by Alice in chains (one of the best songs to practice barre chords) 10. Lose yourself by Eminem 11. In bloom by nirvana 12. Come as you are by nirvana 13. Civil war by guns n’ roses (great for learning alternate picking) 14. Killing in the name of by rage against the machine 15. Chop suey! By system of a down. I hope I could’ve helped a beginner out there, Keep being epic my dudes.

(you are such a great teacher & player..& i recommend you to the g. curious) . i do like blues, rock, punk, & rock n roll but the web is drenched with play like "insert name" endless photo fit pentatoic blues by numbers. i dunno, my advice to the young uns would be,learn the basics and then spread your wings. refreshing to see this mate. the eels! thats how to write a blues song that dont need a solo. nice one.

I am at around 30 hours now and i found all these friendly except ''Be Your Dog'' I feel like I can play any basic open chords ,still struggle with F but can catch it in things like ''house of the rising sun'' but can't in others i also feel stuck like i can't get clean changes every time . I also think i am giving myself bad habits , lol My point is 30 Hours should give me timing and fluidity shoud'nt it ? I just feel i am not getting better. don't know if this is good or bad but i like taking the classical at night just to so called ''noodle'' around quietly until early hours

Just got over that same problem myself just keep practicing just switch between chords slowly and build up speed as you build that muscle memory it's just a matter of repetition and then you'll be able to switch between chords easily just remember to have fun with it and instead of noodling you should be practicing just find some routines online I found that helped my progress 2

If you didn’t start shadow drumming when the drums kick in to I Wanna Be Your Dog we could never be friends.

Loved 1, lost me a bit, but love 8, 9, & 10. “I Wanna Be Your Dog” was also one of the first 5 songs I’d learned. “Just What I Needed” by The Cars was one of the early songs I learned with power chords.

Only beginners use that G shape without the D note on the B string, I never used, I doesn't sound as good, it doesn't sound as full.

Thank you for this! I’m an indie rock fan, and while I can appreciate some of the classic rock hits - it’s not something that really motivates me to play.
