I’m going to add something to your list that you’ve probably never heard of before, they are called water isopods or Asellus aquaticus, they are a small type of crustacean that come in a few different colors and are EXTREMELY easy to care for (and breed) because they don’t care if their water is dirty or not, and they make great tank cleaners because they eat fish waste and algae and uneaten food, in my opinion they are better tank cleaners than snails or shrimp and even a tank with just them in it is amazing, I currently have them living with my betta and I love them! Another great tank idea is putting them with endlers in a heavily planted tank, or put yellow ones with ember tetras and a blue betta :)

I am a 10-gallon Betta keeper as well! 35 years strong!! My last was a Double Tail Dumbo. I bought him because he was "dead" and knew I could fix him. After a month in the hospital tank into the ten-gallon, he went! He had a great, albeit shorter than usual, life. I even got him a tankmate in a Bristle Nose Pleco (baby male). They LOVED each other!! When Dumbo passed, my pleco was devasted for months. Looking for him at all levels of the tank. At this point, my pleco is so territorial over the tank. He will remain a bachelor now that he is 8 and has been alone for 2 years.

OK, now that is possibly, the most disturbing thumbnail, to date! 😳 But, I gotta say, as far as film production, and editing, you know what John should win? 😄 Oscars! (Like, academy awards though, not the fishies!) OK, sorry, lame joke, but I love you guys! Another great video! Note: I feel like this could also be a great list, for people with MTS who want a lot of tanks, with a lot of fish, but don't feel they have as much time... Not necessarily even lazy, because when you get above 10-20 tanks, I think laziness is not really an option... So, let's just say, those who can't necessarily devote every hour of the day to FishKeeping, and could benefit from having easier fish to care for... Honestly so many good reasons to keep "easy" fish! Great list all around!

I think titling this for ‘lazy’ fish keepers is best for working the algorithm. It’s worth noting how the same selections could be useful in many types of situations. Even just in scanning the comments of others, you see many situations brought up… chronic illness, irregular demanding work schedule, forgetfulness (I would put things like ADHD or brain injury under here as well)… Many different scenarios where the fish keeper is wanting to be responsible despite these limiting factors. One of the most responsible things we can do when choosing a pet (of any kind) is perform an honest examination of the time, energy, and resources we have available - and to choose something that can still thrive within this capacity. Thank you for videos like this that help people trying to work within their own circumstances.

I've been keeping fish for about 20 years now, and I've got to say the best experience I've ever had was in keeping an oscar...which I unimaginatively named Oscar. Most character I've ever seen in a fish. Broke my heart, though, that one night I heard a massive crash from his tank. His tank had a supporting glass bar running the width of the tank at the top...and he must have gotten a little over-excited (I suspect he was pestering the foot-long pleco he was sharing his home with), as I found he'd jumped up & cracked his head open on the glass bar. Despite the sadness, I can recommend keeping oscars to anyone & plan on keeping them in the future as soon as I have space to accomodate a tank big enough again.

On the topic of bettas, I will always say its easier to have at least the 5 gallon with the live plants, especially if its fully planted compared to the marketing of "easy care" with the darn containers that are less than a gallon.

Ever Betta I have had over the last 35 years has always had his own ten-gallon regular height, with Marble Queen Pothos (specifically) all through the tank since they do not need substrate, and surprisingly an Auquaclear 50 on full force! My Bettas have LOVED the full power of that filter and going for rides in the outflow! Once I switched to a Hygger titanium rod heater, things have never been better.

And I love it they all are planted tanks in different sizes all over the house. I started with plastic plants and find that not a lot of work at all. Planted tanks are a bit more work mostly when you start. As soon as things are settling in and starting to grow it is not so hard to maintain. Love the hobby and all your advice. I've been through almost all your videos and some I watched more thank once to be sure I do the right thing this time around.😀

When I won feeder fish at the carnival as a kid I was told they would last 2 weeks. Mine lived 9 years before a blizzard took our power out which killed our fish. They shared a massive tank with my pleco and a bunch of snails. I'm more surprised that I figured out a good system for my fish despite me being practically a child. The tank came from my mom cause she loves plecos but she was not really that interested in fish keeping and wasn't really good at community tanks. The tank was empty for a long time and I begged her to fill it back up for my 1 feeder fish, Mr. Longtails was his name. Ended up getting more feeder fish to keep him company, some snails that bred fast and 1 pleco. They became massive bois after 9 years and I loved all of them.

I have a natural planted dirted soil and sand substrate, but the best thing I did was use lace lava rocks for my new tank with kuhli loaches. I have one large lace rock that acts as a great cave system with large holes the kuhlis can tunnel through. I was lifting the rock one day to realease c02 bubbles from the soil, and only found one kuhli underneath. I thought the other 2 burrowed in the sand, but then I kept an eye on the opening. I discovered one crawling from the ceiling. They apparently like to hang out in the tunnel system of the lace rock. Really interesting fish. Their body structure definitely makes them the best hiders!

as a lazy guy, my only criticism for mollies and platies, is they reproduce so rapidly, that your tank maintenance goes up drastically. My mbuna have a stable population so it's easy to gauge when canisters need cleaned, sponges squeezed and gravel vacced, whereas mollies, you've got 10, then a month later at least 30, then you gotta drive to the shop to drop off some, etc. I love livebearers but I've always had to work a lot harder on any tank with them then the others due to that huge shift of bioload every couple months.
@dragonwithamonocle
Жыл бұрын
The trick with livebearers is keeping them with tankmates that like to eat fry. If you've got a 30 or 40 gallon space and you've got mollies, keep them with a school of skirt tetras or something that won't bother the mollies but is quick and big enough that little fry aren't going to make it unless they're clever. Throw a betta in your big guppy tank and they won't have population explosions.

My grandmother kept a tank of goldfish. One year she got sick with a blood infection and was hospitalized for over a month, a lot of that unconscious. Eventually someone remembered she had fish and I went to go check on them. The tank was green, I thought maybe they all died and turned to goo. Nope, every surface had 3 inches of algea on it and all the fish were alive and well. I think they must have been eating the algea or something to survive. Those fish lived another 15 years!

We are thinking the little 5L would be good for my elementary classroom. What would you put in that 5L? As far as care, children would give the fish food during the week and I would care for the tank as much as possible but as a teacher I do get really busy and don’t want to be neglecting the poor fish. Our little 5L has a filter. What should I put in it? I’m thinking a snail or 2 and one other fish. Your list is very helpful, I just want to make sure I’m making a wise choice for classroom use. I also put plants (water lettuce & cabomba) because it does play a role in water clarity. Enjoying binging these top tens, how have you been back for 4 years without me noticing! For me it's all about making maintenance as easy as possible, my big goldfish tank (I definitely don't consider goldies easy or that robust, I used to breed lion head ranchus and now just a super laid back ryukin and blackmoor tank, I find them very sensitive to nitrates and they produce A LOT!) is right next to a window where I can dump out water using a thick pond hose on my front garden (check out my tank on my channel if you want 😁). I've also gone super simple on filter, I have a 5 inch gravel bed with an undergravel filter driven by a maxijet pump, super easy to maintain! The small tanks in my life run on matten filters and can have a 50%water change with a watering can in 5 minutes. Attach everything electrical to a smart socket no faffing with plugs, this maybe could be a top ten make your life easier video 😂 sorry about the length of the post!

Love how she's so passionate about bettas ♥ I'm about to get a 26 gallon (80 cms) aquarium - planning to fill 1 male betta, 5 ottos and 5 amanos. Could I put any other fish in there or is it too much already?

You could also try a school of 6-8 ember tetras for the middle column of the tank. They’re great little guys, never had any issues with fin nipping, and they’re too fast for the betta to get.

I’ve been into fish keeping since New Years and recently lost my very first betta to fin rot, so I set up a 5gal and completely redid my 10gal with new decorations and new white substrate (I did it safely, I did a lot of research on it) and I’m trying live plants. while I was at the pet store getting some more plants for my aquariums I noticed someone was staring at me, it was a little black and white female betta, it was like she was saying “Hey lady! Please take me!” So I called my mom and let her know I was buying a betta fish and when I got home I put the plants in the 5gal (it was cycled I just needed to put plants in it) and then put her in, she’s now named Oreo and I’ve had her for a month and she is my favorite! She follows your finger and she is extremely smart! I’m planning on teaching her tricks sometime, also my platys and guppies love the plants in my 10gal! Along with the mystery snails XD they’re little bulldozers ruining my carpeting plants lol. I spoil all of my fish, especially my betta! She’s so sassy

Hi guys I have a favour to ask. It’s my birthday tomorrow (well in 20mins) and I would LOVE a video on tank lighting! I have recently got a 2nd hand 56G tank and went the cold water route but it has no lid!! So I currently have a net but I need a light to attach and would love some feedback from you both. ( please think about it!) Kyle x

I love my angels! I have 4 in my 55 gallon tank and they are so much fun. They will follow you around the tank and sometimes I will go from one side to the other just to see them swim toward me. I think we have females as they never lay eggs. We did once take in a male from my father in law, because he was bullied. He got it on right away with one of them. Only to have the eggs eaten... Mother nature is mean like that. He had a wound that only got worse, so he didn't make it. But I still miss him. OH! One easy as heck fish is the Colombian tetra. These bad bois will survive the apocalypse.

i got a 50 gallon on craigslist for free. came with everything including fish. 2 large marble Angle fish. the water was dark brown, could barely could see the fish. the guy said he does a water change every month and changes the HOB filter twice a week. the water smelled so bad did not want to get the water on me, felt so bad for the fish, they all survived.
