This is just superb, I've been looking for "what coins are good to collect?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Wonenry Sonucas Approach - (should be on google have a look )? It is a great exclusive product for uncovering a proven trading method to get fast results without the headache. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my close friend Aubrey at very last got amazing results with it.

Bingo....Daniel, you hit the nail on the head with the Number #1 thing to invest in. EDUCATION, without that, all the rest means absolutely nothing.Whatever investment you made without education is just a guess, a lottery. Knowing about what you are getting into is the best feeling in the world.It is like going into a test at school and having ALL the questions and answers ahead of time...You can’t miss. Totally agree with your #1 pick, Daniel. So many collectors, especially new ones, overpay for what they buy for lack of knowledge. No new Coin Collector should even think of purchasing a coin until they have spent a minimum of 3 months studying Basic Coin Collecting and especially about the coin series they want to collect. Great video!

Very good advice yet again! Thank you! I'd like to add that it takes a little more work and more time than people may think. You can't just go to a coin shop 1 or 2 times and expect to find all this stuff that you'll be able to flip next month for a profit. You need to study what holds value. You need to look through many, many coins. You need to do a bit of research. And you should NEVER buy hype of the newest thing all the big companies are pushing. Yes, knowledge and education are a big key!!

Yes, knowledge: make sure to update your Redbook every 3 to 5 years, or so, and buy a few books about the particular series you are collecting. Also, buy a subscription to a CoinAge, CoinWorld or some periodical in the hobby. Last, take a grading course online or in person. Frankly, as far as studying varieties, RPMs, DDs go, I could never keep up with so many, often extremely minor, distinctive differences -- although I know that there may be some real money in them. I just know the major ones, and strangely enough, for someone who does not really look hard, I have found a couple of DDs and varieties which I don't think anyone has published. Once a young collector left the bourse floor of a coin show while I was sipping on my coffee near the exit before I left for the day. The kid was walking on the clouds, as he was so happy that he was bursting and had to tell someone. He came up to me, a stranger, and with a huge, self-satisfied grin informed me that he had detected and purchased some large number (I think, approximately 2 dozen) RPMs and varieties in Washington quarters, Kennedy halves, Ikes, Roosevelt dimes, Jeff nickels, and the like. I told him he must have a good eye (both literally and figuratively) and congratulated him. I thought at the time, "Wow, he really was lucky to find (say) a 1954-S over D, 1955-D over S, 1943 double-eye, Bugs Bunny half, a no FG half, or some major varieties that I would recognize without a dealer identifying them as such." When I asked him about his finds, however, he enumerated a list of varieties that I had no idea existed. Thereafter, when I started to look into varieties on the web, I found that there is a mind-bogglingly huge number of them, including sub-variations, in modern coins. Anyway, I congratulated the kid; his joy in his finds and purchases gives a living heart to the hobby. Personally, I just can't spend hours over a glass or a microscope searching for tiny differences, but if it gives others joy, well, God bless them.

I'm a numismatist but I still like MS 63-64 common-date Morgan and Peace dollars if they are eye-appealing. Dealers will always want these if they are in NGC or PCGS holders. ANACS and ICG will probably have to be sold at a discount. Prices have crept up a bit due to recent increased interest in silver bullion. Just shop around and don't be paying $90 for a coin that's worth $50. I also like graded Franklin halves in MS 63-65 and in fact I bought 100 65s last year in a single purchase. If silver continues to rise (likely), the common dates will be affected and will also rise.

I agree with the education part. Before I was medically discharged from the navy, there was a motivational speaker that gave a great speech on the importance of education. For me, this has been going to school for software development. I finished my associates and bachelors, I have been taking a program through codecademy premium, and I plan on starting a Master of Software Engineering next year. There are also quite a few coin books I own that I need to study through more, Coin Worlds Making the Grade and The Coin Collections Survival Manual by Scott A. Travers is another good book. CAC gifted a copy to me when I was accepted for a membership with them. Thank you for another informative video

Examples: 1931 S cent, 1914 D cent, 1916 D mercury dime, 1970 D Kennedy Half, anything 1950 proof, 1879 CC Morgan Dollar....I think you get the idea. Many of these I bought 10, 15, 20 years ago and have made tremendous profit.

Thanks for the informative video. Question: Where do you buy your Ikes for near face value? The banks won't order them and the best deals I have found for clad are around $1.35 per coin (plus shipping and handling). People at garage sales and flee markets tend to think Ikes are rare so they want $2-3 per coin. APMEX just had a black friday sale on 40% silver IKEs at $10 a coin plus shipping. So I think I am looking in all the wrong places! any advice is appreciated.

definitely think the 40% silver Kennedy and Ike coins are undervalued, and really not looked at too much. I can usually find those pretty cheap, along with Ike's in general (although outside of 73, I don't know how much Ike's will go up...even though it's a dollar, it is still a clad coin, which like you said face value)...

I would like to see you do a video on Constitutional Silver (Junk Silver). I did a search on here and didn't see where you had one. I am into pre-1976 coins, especially Eisenhower dollars. I also purchase silver bullion coins. Why would I want to invest in Junk Silver at nearly 20X face value? The silver content on dimes is only around 12X face value. Wouldn't I be better sticking to modern bullion coins? I can get brand new silver Britannias for under $23 per coin right now.

The video was right on target. Great topic. Hoping you do more, with focus on type of coins that may be great future investments. I like looking at the rarity of the coin and the cost associated with it. If it's relatively rare, in decent condition, and can be bought for under $50, I have to strongly consider buying it even if it is not a type of coin in my personal collection. I've often seen underpriced coins that are "rare" in relation to total number minted, age, and PCGS estimate of survivors. For example, on one of my auction watch lists, there is a 1871-S seated liberty half dime in an auction that is about to start, and the high bid so far is $18. The coin is in fine-to-very fine condition. There were only 161,000 minted, and PCGS estimates only 600 in any grade have survived. Numismatic rarity: 5.8. To be able to buy a coin with that numismatic rarity in decent shape for under $25? No brainer for me. I already have one for my half dime Dansco album, but I'll buy this one for a reasonable price to stock in my "excess" coin binder. Who knows ... one day, collecting half dimes may become a hot trend.
@revello103
4 жыл бұрын
As a p.s. - if you want to read one of those find-a-treasure coin in a flea market bin box, read the PCGS narrative about the 1870-S half dime -- only one ever found, in a bin. PCGS lists it as "unique" and estimates a retail value of $1.75 million. Some think there may be one in a cornerstone of the 2d restoration of the SF Mint.

To me, it seems like there are certain coins that there's a higher level of interest in - Morgan dollars and gold half eagles seem like two of them. Looks like there's a good amount of interest in classic commems, but not on the same level as the other two. So if you have a good eye and do your research, you could potentially make a bit on them. But I don't look at coins as an investment as they have limited upside. Coin collecting is a niche hobby that will always have its enthusiasts, but it's never going to be mainstream. Meaning you can always get most of your money back and even make some depending, but there is only limited upside in terms of money making potential. I'd look at your video as more pointers on how to mitigate losses because coin collecting is rife with sellers to make money off of people that don't know anything about it. Maybe another point could be impulse control. I've almost bought hundreds of coins but back off b/c of a scratch or b/c the price is just a little too high and doesn't match the grade.
