Thanks Drew, I love collecting Golden age and Atomic age books. While Golden age superhero titles are largely out of reach for many collectors. There are other ways to dip your toe into Golden age books without taking a bath on the cost. While it's just my opinion, the most affordable G.A. genres are westerns, crime, and "funny" books-- particularly Dell titles (but not including Carl Barks books-- those get expensive!). These are much more affordable than superhero, horror, sci-fi or romance titles, which are pretty much off the charts due to either popularity or rarity. While I have G.A. books in all genres, I probably have more crime and western books than the other genres, simply because they are more accessible. Even so, collecting Golden age of ANY genre requires some homework ahead of time, because with this era it's easy to get burned if you don't know what you're buying. Know your artists, know your publishers, know your page counts and KNOW your grading point criteria! 👍

Well said! Westerns are criminally cheap these days! Crime is starting to tick up, especially for those notorious covers! But you’re 100% right about page counts!

This is a great point. A lot of collectors forget about MAD comics. I have 1-11 and at a reasonable price. I probably paid what you would spend on 1 war time captain America for the whole run. A literal bargain for a run with a golden age mega key EC comic.

Thanks for the list. You really do a good job. As a kid my dad would tell me about him being a comic book fan. He was born in '37 and an older kid on his block was an early collector. He said the kid had everything. Superman, batman, captain marvel, captain America, namor. My dad also told me he had a pretty solid collection from those times too. Unfortunately my grandparents threw them out we he went into the navi! To make matters worse he took me to the local comic shop and told me to get what I wanted. He tried to steer me to silver age but I only wanted current 80's comics. So instead of getting maybe a FF 1 or asm 1 etc.. I got alpha flight 1 and marvel fanfare etc... lol Anyways thanks for the video and keep tjem coming.

Hey William! Thanks for the comment! A friend of the family tells the tale of his parents buying him and his brothers every comic each week and when the pile of books got to be 3' or so tall, they’d take them and donate them to a local hospital. I've never seen a grown man look so distraught as when I told him what a copy of Amazing Fantasy 15 goes for these days...

Thanks Hillbilly! If I remember correctly they are in the top 15 or 20! 10 was actually a 3-way tie, so I picked the most relevant, All-Star 8. If I remember right the tie was between AS8, Action 10 and Detective 31. If I was picking my personal favorite of the three, I’d have gone with Tec31! Probably the best thing Bob Kane ever did, after talking with Bill Finger about this new character he was working on 😉!

@@CoMoComicBooks Exactly. Look at Blackhawk. When Quality Comics decided to give him his own comic, they continued the numbering from “Uncle Sam Quarterly” which ended after 8 issues; so the first issue of “Blackhawk” was issue #9. The same with the silver-age Flash. DC continued the numbering from “Flash Comics”, of which the last issue was #104 in 1949. The first issue of “The Flash” was #105, 10 years later in 1959.
