All right, I have a theory on Blue Cat Blues. Tom and Jerry didn't die, because well, they are cartoon characters. The last episode is actually an episode where Tom is trying to take care of a baby. Also, Jerry is too small to be hit on a train, he is like an inch or something.

RandomKidGaming I could've replaced the dirty patty episode because they totally twists the truth with what happened. Firstly they thought that it was a fake health inspector and wanted to get back at him for ripping them off. And secondly he didn't actually eat the patty, he swallowed a fly. There is no way that they misunderstood they had to have been stretching the truth to make the episode feel more dark!

One of the darkest episodes was this episode of Static Shock where a kid was bullied mercilessly and ends up stealing his dad's gun to kill his bullies. He's stopped just in time by Static, but one person was injured. Static Shock was a pretty dark for a superhero show, discussing things like gang violence, riots, teenage runaways, loved ones passing away, and a ton of other stuff, but something about that episode where the antagonist was a normal person rather than a super villain freaked me out as a kid

Yes, but Season 7 of the show was so weird in a highly uncomfortable (by simply being so out-of-character) way. With Nickelodeon's death wish towards the show's original (I mean as in both the first and most capable of coming up with new ideas) creator Stephen Hillenburg, the rest of the franchise might as well massively drop in quality and overstay its welcome EVEN MORE than it already did with Kamp Koral.

@1Thunderfire

Very true which is why it irritates the hell out of me when people are like, "but we must protect children from bad things!" I read an article in the paper recently about dark children's books that the paper's journalists enjoyed. This was done because of apparent rules curtailing what kind of books are acceptable for primary schools such as: no death, no witches, no demons, no ghosts, etc. Such limits curtail freedom, imagination and creativity and doesn't give a child the chance to learn about other things and as I've always been a keen reader, this annoys me.

Agreed. Sterilize a child's perception of the world too much and he ends up just as warped as a child who's been shown nothing but darkness. The whole Social Justice Warrior mentality is evidence of that. The second they see some kind of negativity, they don't know how to cope and just lose their minds.
@huntergraham702

I think it depends on the context. If it's something like this where there is purpose to the darkness then it *should* be there and be respected. But if it's like mindless savagery for mindless savagery's sake, especially from the protagonists or whatever that *can* have a negative impact on their developing minds. Same can be said for innocence. There should be times of happiness in shows, but it shouldn't be dull and brainless like Fanboy and Chum-Chum *Vomits just from thinking about that garbage pile* As with everything in life there has to be a balance.

I can understand if parents don't want sexual innuendos in their kid's shows, but when it comes to real life situations, kids need to know. If a kid learns about some of the more dark things in life, they can learn earlier on how to deal with it (with the help of their parents of course) I just hope there are some shows out there still teaching kids valuable lessons.

Allow me to suggest another episode: April 9th from Arthur. It was a lot like the 9/11 Sesame Street episode in discussing traumatic events and how they affect each individual. The episode was also made in response to 9/11 in 2002. What happens is a fire erupts in Arthur's school much like the shop in Sesame Street, but the outcome was even more scary than Sesame Street. One of the characters (Sue Ellen) loses her backpack and diary in the fire and has to cope with that loss while Arthur himself is scarred by his dad receiving minor injuries from smoke inhalation and begins to fear for him all the time. Binky sees part of the fire and is traumatized from that alone and begins having PTSD. The episode even discusses Buster, who was not at school that day and missed the fire, becoming somewhat jealous for missing out. It was quite a scary episode as a kid and I remember being quite freaked out by it. But it was handled very well and is arguably one of the best episodes in the entire series. I recommend watching Mr. Enter's admirable animation on it for anyone who's interested. :)

There was one episode of Spongebob Squarepants that I remember some time ago that was too dark for my liking. I believe it was called “One Coarse Meal.” It was an episode in which Mr. Krabs discovers Plankton’s fear of whales (which is bad writing because I could’ve sworn that in some episodes Plankton was around Pearl, and he never succumbs to that fear, but idk). Mr. Krabs, throughout the entirety of this episode, abuses Plankton’s fear by dressing up as Pearl out of *pure enjoyment* , and this drove Plankton insane, to the point that the episode gave the implication that Plankton is contemplating suicide: And because the show is all “good versus evil”, Mr. Krab’s defeats plankton, and got off Scott-free from punishment. Heck, even Spongebob betrays plankton by doing this. I get how Plankton certainly has his fair share of wicked schemes, but Plankton is not even remotely close to doing something so sinister and sadistic as Mr. Krabs in this episode (except for the first Spongebob movie, where he becomes world dictator). Using one's fears against them out of sheer pleasure and torture was a concept that frightens and disgusts me. That is psychological abuse. Just the mere thought of watching that episode sends shivers down my spine, and I hope that that episode stays buried within the sands of time.

One episode I was surprised never got even mentioned was The Puppet Master from Avatar: The Last Airbender. The idea of a waterbender controlling people through the water in their blood is strongly disturbing. It could've been even creepier when you realize how much water the human brain is comprised of and the mental scarring something like that could cause.
@nine_tails137

Fun Fact: I just finished watching that episode on Nickelodeon this evening. And it's still just as creepy as I remember it. Especially Katara breaking into tears at the end of the episode.
@daforkgaming3320
2 жыл бұрын
What’s even creepier is that using this logic, if someone was to get a cut in battle, a blood bender could theoretically bend all the blood out of their body and essentially drain them like a vampire. It’s a kid show and things like deep cuts which reveal blood isn’t seen much, but if it was that could be deadly. A blood bender with swords on the night of a full moon. One cut, no matter how shallow and they can slowly bend all blood out of you.

The difference between “Are You Happy Now?” And “Blue Cat Blues” suicide jokes is that... the former is actually a joke. Squidward sticks his head in the oven, but then pulls out cookies. He ties a rope, but pulls up a birdcage. The joke in Blue Cat Blues, is that Tom and Jerry are so sad they’re going to kill themselves. Suicide is the punchline. After Squidward pulls up a birdcage, you feel silly for thinking he’d kill himself, thusly, a pretty funny gag. Hell, there are a few other examples of that kind of offbeat, offensive humor in 60’s media other than Blue Cat Blues. One of the first jokes in Singin’ in the Rain, the best musical ever produced, is a young woman claiming that she’ll kill herself due to Leena Lamont’s stunning beauty. Of course, this is because of a lack of understanding of mental illness at the time. As someone who suffers from depression and suicidal thoughts, I totally advocate the use of depressive/suicidal jokes, but do it right!
@phantomstrider
6 жыл бұрын
Precisely. Spot on with why I believe those 2 jokes work as well, despite the extremely dark subject matter. A child also would not interpret either as suicide. They would just assume Squidward looked carefully for his brownies and was pulling a cage up. I can understand some people being sensitive to these two jokes, but I actually think they're okay.

How Blue Cat Blues should've ended: Jerry joins Tom on the train tracks, having felt the same pain that Tom has. Then, they realize that they don't need any stuck-up women, because they have each other as friends. At this point they then step off the tracks and watch the train pass by, as their friendship is rekindled and bigger than ever. The End. An MGM Tom and Jerry cartoon. Made in Hollywood, USA.

This episode just spits out George Orwell's dead body and I'm sure I have half reading the book. Also, the ending just completely sad that the villain (Napoleon) had won and the difference between humans and animals were no longer existed and the animals ended up being bipedal. But for MLP, I don't know if the show did have anything about the book or not. But I did it's a bit cringey. MLP might be cancerous sometimes but I can't watch it.

Heck I would always pick Weirdmageddon finale from Gravity Falls. The concept is horrifying, from Ford and Stan being just stunned and horrified for the kids, their friends being turned to banners, Bill is about a millisecond away from killing Mabel, and just the plain hard truth that summer ends and Dipper and Mabel leave Gravity Falls.
@ayanomaiyuki6085
5 жыл бұрын
I was so sure that Bill was gonna kill Mabel, and this kinda upset me because she was my favorite character, and she still kinda is. Even though Gravity Falls is over, I will forever remember the episodes and the air of mystery each one brought me. Alex Hirsch is a genius for creating a show that, surprisingly, was able to keep me entertained for a long period of time, and leaving me wanting more after each episode. I don't think I've ever been so invested in a show before!

The Stan and Ford bit where Stan lost his memory choked me up. When Ford said “You’re our hero, Stanley” it felt pure and raw from Simmons’ heart. And it almost feels like someone’s reaction to the death of their sibling. In a way, that is sort of what happened.

I have a theory on "Tough Love". Maybe it was shown in a spoiled kid's point of view and what they see when they don't get their way. They see their parents the people who took care of them as evil people. I think that's actually why my little sister says that " Mommy won't give me this she doesn't love me!". It's honestly annoying whenever she does that. Also I got this theory when you said "ungrateful" it just rang so many bells in my head. When the creator of sesame street died I'm not gonna lie I cried.
