Even though our countries have different ideologies I wish for the best. The citizens of a country don't deserve to be punished because of bad government. It sucks he turned out to be a bad leader. The U.S is no exception with a corrupt congress which has an 8% approval rate. In fact, our two leading party leaders who are running for president both have historical disapproving ratings. Keep fighting for change and protest, a country cannot run without it's citizens at work!

I live in Venezuela, in 2014 my cousing who was only 19 years old was shoot by a militar, he was prottesting peacefuly to end the goberment abuse. He died a few month later. In 2015 my greatfather died of cancer becasue the hospital didnt have enough medication to treat him. That same year my friends mother got robed and killed In this year, in caracas, we dont have water for at least 3 or 2 days, the water is so dirty and dark that you cant even drink it. Light is shut down at least 1 or 2 days in the capital, in others regions light is shut down at least 8 hours everyday. Moving to other countries is extremely expensive, so it almost like being imprisioned

you can have free healthcare and tuition without having a messed up economy. But in Venezuela the government doesn't have the least idea of how to manage the economy, and more importantly, doesn't care, that just means more money for them from corruption. But see in the nordic and scandinavian countries how they can have cheap education and healthcare with a good economy.

I'm a Venezuelan, I'm an economist, and i'm also politically active , which I believe gives me enough insight to criticize this video. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful to watchmojo.com for publishing this video, to help raise awareness on the Venezuelan crisis. However the analysis is lacking in many parts, it magnifies the effect on the falling of oil prices and downplays the negative effects of price control and currency exchange control that have been in place for over a decade now. It also fails to mention the terribly expansive nature of fiscal expending and monetary policy in Venezuela, and the terrible aftermath of the massive printing of bolivares to pay for public expending, that's the main drive for inflation here. It does a fairly good job talking about public debt, but does not mention domestic debt which is far worse, there are hundreds of businesses paralyzed because the government doesn't honor the debt they contracted, even worse, the government has confiscated all sorts of private enterprises and run them to the ground with corruption and ineptitude. Another thing that is not shown in the video is the violation of human rights and torture that the military police (sebin) and the national guard are currently committing. Venezuela's government is not a democracy, the government won't let citizens protest, won't let the majority elected congress legislate, closes opposing media and tortures and incarcerates opposition leaders. Once again I would like to express gratitude towards watchmojo.com this is not an attack on them, I'm just saying this video is a very, very small approach to what's really happening.

I think this top should be made by a Venezuelan, I am Venezuelan, and i must say that this is a very complicated situation in our country. Actually im not part of any political side (Because Venezuelan politcs sucks from both sides the "The Oficialismo" and "The Oposicion"), i mean the country is falling apart, and they are not doing anything to solve it, they just argue every day "what we should do to bring the opposition of the assembly" or "what should we do to take Maduro off his charge", im just saying if your job is fix the country problems, Why are you not doing your job and making the people even more angry?... Im actually a little bit scared because the people is angry and when the people of my country gets angry... Well im just saying it could be the start of a civil war between the people the government, and of course, i dont want to start ... I love my country but, both the government and the people... Yeah i just probably end it here, lots of problems in our country, the fault its of course of the politicians who apperently they dont know how to lead a country, and the people who are every day more desesperate which leads us to do horrible things to our country destroying it even more... Im only wanted to say, we definitely need help, thats all we need.... Sorry about my english if its not that good :/

The whole El Nino/ Gas prices explanation gives the inference that the crisis spawns from unfortunate happenstance. That is a very narrow view. The biggest single problem they have is price controls. When businesses are forced to sell their goods at below market value and forced to take losses they run out of money. That puts them out of business. Shortages were appearing well before now but if there is anything you can rely on it's Leftists incapable of admitting flaws in their system. Coupled with an incompetent treasury department that flooded the market with Bolivars and the court that is packed with Chavista loyalists there to rubber stamp the administration, and you have a runaway train that the creators insist a lack of brakes is a feature not a design flaw. And the Leftists on the outside looking in can't deny the misery caused by this system, the rallying cry is to disown it as "not true Socialism". It tears me up that so many are condemned to misery because of leaders too arrogant to admit their failures and the complete inability to give their people agency and pursue work.

I'm 100% with you on this. The failure of Venezuela to fully implement socialism has been their downfall. It is a haunting vision of what America will become on its current trajectory. Obama care, Medicare etc... are all pseudo-socialist. That does not work. It needs to be full socialism, and only Bernie Sanders offers that philosophy. We already know capitalism doesn't work, so why are we strapped into a sinking ship? America was founded on socialism, and spread it across the world, why do we not go back to our roots?
@Illidanek
8 жыл бұрын
Exactly. We know that implementing only 99% of socialist policies will allow the evil Crapitalists to take advantage of the system. That 1%! destroyed Venezuela, they allowed a small hole for the evil companies to grow in. Only 100% socialism will save us! Destroy the oppression! Read Karl Marx! All hail Kim Jong the first!

America is founded on a republic form of government, its ecological system has not been socialistic, traditional or capitalistic it's always been a balance between the systems. A pure economical system will almost always fail, this includes capitalism and socialism. The problem with venezuela is its dependency on a single export, when the us began to produce its own oil at a higher rate as well as other countries formerly dependent on imports this crushed the Venezuela market. As the video showed as well weather conditions are beyond optimal for agricultural independence. Venezuela's failure seems to stem to being overly reliant on a single export, having an incompetent leader, and the state not being elastic enough to switch to other exports. Your argument is no different to a person saying "see theres socialism screwing things up again" as much as i want to circle jerk with you for voting for sanders it's just not a valid point. Again as im trying to point out there are a plethora of factors for the failure of a state and i only pointed out the most notable of venezuela, there are undoubtedly more factors that i can not touch upon as i do not have any sort of formal education in the matter. The point of my comment is not to incite trust on any ideologies.

Greetings from Colombia, One of the main things Latin American socialism has done to this continent is to push society as a whole towards consumerism (USA). It's a similar process to that lived in Eastern Europe after the fall of the wall. The Latin American socialism has been such a failure in so many different ways, that the pendulum has rotated to the other end. Which is quite understandable, considering how this horrible pseudo model never recognizes its own problems and blames external actors of absolutely everything. It's sad as well that most of this continent (with people like Macri in Argentina) have implemented radical neo liberal policies. Most of these countries are full of corruption and they end up selling their national resources cheap. There's no middle ground. All left to say is that consumerism in the end is better simply because: Consumerism sells illusions of entertainment. Communism shreds misery and poverty

As a Venezuelan, I appreciate WatchMojo's effort to put our situation in the eyes of their community. Even though the video pretty accurately sums up the general situation, it's a complicated mess that runs quite deeper than what you can show in a 9 min. video. We Venezuelans usually brag about how, no matter the situation, we face it with humor: "reirse para no morirse de la arrechera" we sometimes say, meaning "laughing so as to not die from frustration"; and that's just because the situation is laughably ridiculous: drug problems? what's that? why would someone here need to smuggle drugs if smuggling food is more profitable? FOOD! effing-basic, milk-and-butter, lunch-and-dinner, FOOD across the border... (There are drugs in the country, just making a point). Regulatory prices and unprofitable production costs have been major causes of this. I, personally, haven't had milk in about six months, for example. Thankfully I have managed to always have some food or another, but some aren't as lucky. People are desperate, and desperate people make bad decisions. Crime is also a major, major problem; almost no Venezuelan has gone one year without being mugged at gunpoint at least once. Crime has become a profession. And the solution is very far away; basically because of extreme, radical, I-refuse-to-think-anything-outside-of-my-political-party's-philosophy mentalities. The government and its supporters absolutely refuse to believe that they are doing things wrong, they can't contemplate such a thing; but a lot of the opposition behave in the same way, in the other direction. They think everything is the government's fault and that just by eliminating Maduro from the equation, things will somehow, magically improve. And SO MUCH HATE has been seeded by those in power against those who think differently... so much social and political resentment. The country is divided. We are mortally wounded. We are bleeding out. The list goes on, but I shall not. Sorry for the long comment, also sorry if my English isn't quite up to par. If you read this far, thank you; if only for taking the time. Pray for us

As a Venezuelan. I'm glad the international community is becoming aware of this situation. This is only a part of the chaos that we're living in Venezuela. The main reason for this situation is that, during his presidential period, Hugo Chaves, "expropriated" (stole) fabrics and productive private lands in order to maximize socialism in this country. Most of these expropriated properties are not productive currently and have not been productive since the very day they were expropriated. This generated a food and other facilities shortage that we have been suffering for around 4 years, but that has become ridiculous since last year. We have to wait in line for a minimum of 5 hours in order to get 1 kg of "harina pan" (corn flour) or rice or pasta or basically anything that is necessary for a normal Venezuelan diet. Anything that has protein (eggs, meat, etc.) Is ridiculously expensive. Due to other government politics, even medicines are very difficult to find (antibiotics, antiallergenics, hypotensors, etc.). I have walked for hours at times to seeifi could find some for my parents. Due to the shortage of food we have to do queues for almost everything edible, including brread, and don't get m started on hygiene products. Deodorant, detergent, soap, shampoo ,hair conditioner, razors, etc. It may look like I'm bitching but I'm seriously not lying. We are in one of the worst situations of our history. PEOPLE ARE HUNGRY and the government doesn't want to accept it. The state of public universities is deplorable, I hope this video goes viral and so people all over the world would see that Venezuela's situation is hellish right now. THE GUILTY ONES ARE THE ONES IN THE GOVERNMENT.

As a venezuelan i can tell you some things to better understand whats happening in this country: -The main reason of the crisis is the oil rentism. Venezuelans got used to get their money not from agriculture, manufacturing or technology. Instead we get our revenue by extracting some black matter beneath the earth and sell it. Therefore it is in our culture to obtain money not from hard work, but by just letting the oil extracting machines ride. -You may ask yourselves "Dont you have any other source of income at all?" And the answer would be "no lol". You'd be mistaken to think that venezuelans are hard working people, because anyone that really knows our culture would know that most venezuelans dont like to work, this can be reflected on the fact that it is customary to always be late to anything (work, social gatherings, or anything that involves leaving home), and that everytime you make business with someone you should be careful because there is a high probability that they will fuck you up. So as venezuelans dont really like to work, there is no industry of any kind besides oil that is strong enough to get some decent revenue to the country. -Also venezuelans have something called "viveza criolla" which would mean something like "fuck your fellow citizen to obtain personal gain". If you have come to venezuela you surely know that you have to always be careful when you deal with people as they will most likely screw you in some way. So it is not in our culture to make money the honest way. Venezuelans want everything to be handed to them, because somehow they feel entitled to everything. So dont expect venezuelans to work their way out of the crisis. -You may wonder how it is possible that with so many problems, the goverment still has so much power. Well, the truth is that Maduro and the gang are not idiots at all, they really have mastered the art of brainwashing their people through the media (which they own most of it, if not all of it). So much to the point that there is a considerable amount of people that really believe that there is a conspiracy led by the USA and venezuelan business people to destroy its economy. They always find a scapegoat, and venezuelans being as gullible as they are, believe their lies. -Some of you may say this is socialism, and i can tell you for sure it isnt (Because socialism is so incompatible with human nature that it cant never be applied to any society and really work), this is State corporativism. Because the state has managed to acquire most means of production throught expropiation, but not to put them in the hands of the people, but in the hands of high ranking goverment officials that in the process of leeching all the money from the expropiated business, they destroyed them. They use socialism as a flag, as a propaganda device to rule over the minds of the gullible, and obviously it worked. -Dont feel sorry for us. We deserve this. And in the long haul it can be a really good thing because as WWII taught the world the value of peace, this crisis may teach us to be better prepared in the future. But i really, really doubt that.
