I think shyamalan is really harshly maligned. I've seen this criticism of signs, and even if true about the water plot hole, it's still SO watchable, come on! Plus, is it such a bad plot hole?? Loads of alien films talk about how the alien's world is dying and they're desperate for a new home. Maybe they know water is bad for them but they have to come here anyway. They stay away from water (says it in the film) and they try to take over in a surprise attack, probably trying to avoid the water problem... Anyway, that aside, the village was also good and beautifully shot, in my opinion; i know many others didn't feel the same, i just think people were getting sick of his twist shtick, which is fair enough, but there's a lot else to like about that film. And there is unbreakable, which i think is a massively underrated film, and possibly one of the best comic book related films ever made. And I know I'm not the only one. Seen a few articles (in 'respected' magazines/websites,) since the marvel takeover of the cinemas, saying that unbreakable is the counterpoint to that, the thinking man's comic/superhero film. Sure, he's done some bad films, but holding him up as a "bad director" when he's done some really good/great films is too much, in my opinion...
@evannesbitt7852

Shyamalan has made 2 great movies: 6th Sense and Unbreakable. 4 Decent ones: Signs, wide awake, the Village, the Visit. The rest of his filmography sucks. The Last Airbender and The Happening are particularly terrible. I'd still watch his movies over any of Michael Bay's crap, though. Def make another top ten bc there are more surprisingly Michael Bay (Bad Boys 1, 2, or armageddon) M Night (Unbreakable or Signs) Joel Schumacher (Phone Booth, Lost Boys, Tigerland, or A Time to Kill) Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2 or Cliffhanger) Dennis Dugan (Big Daddy) Roland Emmerich (The Patriot) That's all I can think of at the top of my head

+Exploatores The art of making a movie is to stay true to yourself. I like Tarantino's look on it in an interview. "I make movies that I would like to go see in the theater". That's not the exact quote but it's something down that line.

Exploatores I geus that could be. Although some quotes from interviews might suggest otherwise. like one of his responses to critical backlash: "I make movies for 13 year old boys...what a crime". However it is not up to me of course to tell him what to do, even if I don't like his movies. I would rather life in a world where filmmakers can make whatever they want to make instead of being forced to make a particular type of movie just because people tell them to.

Andrew Davis doesn't belong on this list. You're telling me Under Siege was NOT a good movie? It's one of the best action films of the decade, and I'd put it on par with The Fugitive. I doubt he would've been given the job of directing The Fugitive had it not been for the success and quality of Under Siege. Davis doesn't have anything else that good to his name, but saying The Fugitive was his ONLY good movie is inaccurate. And yes, Schumacher on this list is a load of bullshit! He has made several very good movies that have stood the test of time, and have garnered him long standing praise from countless film lovers. While not everything he's done has likely been great, saying Falling Down is the ONLY good film he ever made is an atrociously narrow-minded statement. St. Elmo's Fire, The Lost Boys, A Time To Kill, 8MM, & Phone Booth have remained consistently praise heavy films for years. I'm quite sick of people calling Schumacher a bad director because of one terrible movie. A movie, mind you, that no director on the planet could've forged into anything decent. It was a studio and merchandise driven film, first and foremost. Batman Forever had a lot of potential, but even then, Warner Bros. hacked up the film, rearranged scenes, cutout entire subplots, and really trashed the vast majority of its cohesion and narrative. It certainly has its really negative points, but there was the material there for a compelling Bruce Wayne / Batman centric storyline that got dumped out. And at least, when comes to Batman & Robin, Schumacher has made an apology to the fans for it, which counts for a lot when considering these things. And yes, Batman & Robin - GET OVER IT!

A lot of these directors did more than just make one good film. - Andrew Davis also made Stoney Island & Holes. - Paul W.S. Anderson also made Resident Evil, AVP: Alien vs. Predator, & Death Race. - Roland Emmerich also made Stargate, The Patriot, The Day After Tomorrow, Anonymous, & White House Down. - Joel Schumacher also made The Lost Boys, A Time to Kill, Tigerland, Phone Booth, & The Phantom of the Opera. - Brett Ratner also made Rush Hour & (I know some people might disagree with me on this one) X-Men: The Last Stand. - Michael Bay also made 13 Hours. - Randal Kleiser also made Flight of the Navigator, White Fang & It's My Party. - Irvin Kershner also made The Luck of Ginger Coffey & The Flim-Flam Man. - M. Night Shyamalan also made Unbreakable, Signs, The Village (although kind of so-so), The Visit, & Split.

Michael Bay has multiple good movies: The Rock, Bad boys 1 and 2, Pain and Gain, those were all good movies, I dont understand critics sometimes, you go see Transformers, what the fuck are you expecting to see?? Are you expecting the next pulp fiction or the Godfather, you go see Transformers or Bad Boys cause you wanna spend 2 hours watching shit blow up, you're not expecting a cinematic masterclass, Jeez, drink a beer critics. Plus Pain and Gain was actually a good movie and he wasnt blowing up shit for 2 hours in that one.

I'd really love to see if there are enough villain/antagonist deaths that turn out to be surprisingly poignant or even sad. I'm not talking about situations where the movie just happens to be so bad that the villain is a far better character than the good guy. This would be where it's perfectly appropriate for the bad guy to be taken down, but when it happens, it turns out to be sadder and inspire more regret than audiences would expect. I can think of at least 4 candidates: Lt. Coffey in The Abyss, Loki in Thor: The Dark World, Bill in Kill Bill, and of course, one of the saddest and most beautiful death scenes of all time, Roy Batty in Blade Runner.

@godzillavkk

M. Night isn't really a bad director. Look at The Visit and Split. But I'm surprised they ignored a great made by probably the King of Bad Directors. The movie was "Attack on Durfur" which is about a group of journalists, one of them played by Billy Zane, who are caught in the middle of a crossfire in the real life genocidal war being fought in the Sudaten Land. Now the journalists must struggle to survive in one of the harshest real life wars and witness the devastation is causes. The movie is famous for crossing lines that Hotel Rwanda refused to cross, such as showing a warlord take away a woman's baby, and impaling it on a spike. You might be wondering "Who directed this?" You are not going to believe this. It was Uwe Boll. Yeah, surprisingly Boll did a decent job. I think he had finally decided to stop making video game movies and had shifted his focus somewhere else. The only controversy he got was that he hired real militiamen as extras. But he didn't excercise any tax loopholes that would reward his own investements into the movie if it bombed, because it did not. It won awards and raised money to help refugees in Darfur. Boll may be greedy, but if he wanted to make a movie to help people less fortunete, I guess he's not all bad. And hey, at least he's retired now.
