You don’t need Eve app, you can create automations with much more flexibility by scrolling to the bottom of the “select scenes and accessories” page when creating a new automation in the Home app and tapping “convert to shortcut”. Then you can “code” them with conditionals, loops, etc. I have a night light that comes on only in the dark and keeps looping and waiting to check if motion is still detected and then turns the lights off once there’s no motion. Just a simple example but you can do a lot with shortcuts.

I ditched smart plugs and switched to flashing Sonoff relays with HomeKit. You also off load automations onto Homebridge. I have Homebridge running on my Mac mini and my Qnap NAS. Using the switch automation plugin, the Mac mini hosts all upstairs automations, and the Qnap takes care of the downstairs automations. I make automations on HomeKit if I absolutely cannot find a way to do it with plugins with HomeBridge. Hopefully ios 15 update will fix the homekit automation mess.

Dude, you forget that some electronic devices eg my humidifier, doesn't turn on if you just let the electrical current run through a smart plug. It stays off. New to all of this. If you turn off a smart plug with Home kit does it have to be turned back on with home kit? Example..I turn off a lamp using the smart plug. My wife walks in and Wants to you use the lamp. Does she need ask me to turn it on?
@ModernDayTech
3 жыл бұрын
Welcome to my channel and to HomeKit. Most smart plugs have a button to turn off/on the plug manually. Thus you can turn on/off the plug via the button on the plug or HomeKit or Siri. But if the device/lamp/other device has a manual switch too, and somebody turns that off, then neither the plug nor HomeKit will work. That switch has to stay on 100% of the time. For example a standard table lamp. It has a built in switch and if someone turns that off, that will prevent power to get to the lamp even if the smart plug is turned on. Make sense?

Do you need both starling hub and hoobs? I thought Hoobs does everything starling does but more?
@ModernDayTech
3 жыл бұрын
No, you don't need both but if you have Nest ID products and want to use face triggers (or other Nest ID features) then you want the Starling hub. General control of Nest products and camera steaming can be done with with MUTIPLE Hoobs plugins but there are a lot more hoops and maintenance to do. Face triggers I hear can also be done but more advanced techniques are required with Hoobs to the point that I haven't seen anyone do it (only heard about it) With the Starling hub, you simply just login, set and forget it. You can then have facial recognition trigger home automations plus all the other Nest features. My favorite is when delivery people don't ring the bell but the Nest hello still sees the package and announces that there is a package at my front door all over all my AirPlay 2 speakers. The downside to the starling hub is that it is only for Nest products. Because of it simplicity and effectiveness it won my top 10 HOMEKIT products of 2020 - kzitem.info/news/bejne/sm2r1nV5iqBniKQ Check it out!

"Mistkake #" should read "Mistake #". Or are you just trying to see if we are really "watching" your videos? #1 and #10 are probably the two most important things to do. Doing these will eliminate 98% of your issues going forward with setting up a smart home, regardless of the platform you choose to run it.

Smart bulbs are dumb. You get them and then realize using an app is just retarted and you don’t use them anyway. Then you get smart and use a switch that has a hub and start telling Siri to do things

Not entirely sure how you can do all that talk about having a secure system then end by basically saying “ignore all of that and go with HOOBS and their unsecured, open source product”. Kinda ruins everything you said before it.

You seem to not understand things, just because something is open source, does not mean it is insecure. Open source allows for the code to be audited, so that if there are any vulnerabilities, they are found, before a bad actor exploits them…

How so? Avoid these 10 Top HomeKit Mistakes. Makes a lot sense and nobody else has an issue understanding it. Look at the other comments. Everybody says how helpful the video is in avoiding some of these mistakes.

@@ModernDayTech There's not one smart system available in my region, but I decided for myself that I would build a house based on Homekit, and what do you have in the end? Siri doesn't understand me, and it doesn't make sense to put a hub (homepod, Apple TV). Tell me, author, isn't this the biggest mistake?
