Son of the Mask is a perfect example of, if your lead won't return, don't make a sequel at all. Even if you do continue with a sequel (if you can technically still call it that), instead creating whole new characters, do a story about a supporting character from the original film. True, it's definitely not the same without the true lead, but at least your somewhat continuing a story Evan Almighty is a great example of this. Evan Baxter was in Bruce Almighty and when Jim Carrey chose not to return for a sequel, the story was reworked to focus on Evan. While it was nowhere near as great as Bruce Almighty, it was still a better sequel than Son of the Mask

@@wojtekreliga3881 Man of Steel It's easy to tell that BvS is following in the footsteps of Man of Steel right from the opening scene (after the prologue) of Bruce Wayne seeing Superman cause destruction in the events of MoS and then proceeding to the aftermath. MoS, BvS, and ZSJL is a trilogy.
@rdfrancis455
21 сағат бұрын
There may be several reasons why BvS wouldn't have been included. First: as evidences by some of the responses, BvS didn't come off as a direct sequel to MoS. Clearly it *was* a direct sequel, as it deals explicitly with the aftermath of the events from that film. That said, it's also technically qualifies as a mash-up of two previously distinct film franchises. This was basically required to construct the DCEU, but in the minds of many it may have greatly overshadowed the fact that it was a direct follow-up from MoS, and in no way a direct follow-up to either the Nolan Batman trilogy, nor the 1990s Batman tetralogy. Arguably, you can follow BvS without seeing MoS, just running off the info provided at the start of the film. Second: it's possible that not everyone feels there was that dramatic a drop in quality between the two films. I certainly feel that MoS is vastly superior to the fifth Superman movie, Superman Returns; however, those two movies are both to a greater or lesser extent remakes of Superman I and II from ~45 years ago. BvS pulled in major elements from a significant Superman comic book storyline, but in movie terms didn't feel like a remake of anything. I enjoyed both. (I should perhaps note that I may have seen MoS in the theatre, but I definitely saw BvS on DVD (and saw the extended cut with more JL character footage than I think was in the theatrical version. And, despite having been a comic fan since the mid-1970s, had never noticed that Mrs. Kent and Mrs. Wayne were both named Martha.) Third: The issues with Josh Whedon's reworking of JL may contribute to the exclusion of BvS as well. Many may feel the drop in quality between BvS and that version of JL is equal to or greater than the drop between MoS and BvS. It certainly set back development of the DCEU. It wasn't the only setback (the response to the first Suicide Squad movie, despite Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, was one; the behind the scenes issues with Ezra Miller (may have the name wrong) in The Flash was another; and the disappointing returns on the Wonder Woman and Shazam follow-ups were a third). (And yes, I know you specified the Snyder cut of JL in your comment - however, that was not the one that appeared originally in the theatre).

One of my favorite desperate approaches to defending bad comic book films is the: Have you not read the comics.... [followed by defense of MODOK, the mechanical Rhino, and every other travesty perpetrated in the name of comics by bad filmmakers]. The term for this is - coping. Palpatine comes back because writer is out of ideas. By bringing him back you make a nonsense of the original story. Also I thought it was esp laughable that he conquered death, and yet for ZERO REASON was still creepy concerned with Rey and Ren - like some kind of old perv. And then he repeats the same mistake and dies the same way at the hands of a Jedi - AGAIN. OMG just freaking MAKE IT STOP.

because it (1) isn't explained at all (beyond vague lines about cloning and "dark secrets") after he clearly got turned into space dust at the end of Return of the Jedi and (2) retroactively undoes the ending of Return of the Jedi because Vader's redemption and sacrifice are now rendered meaningless (and also undoes the "prophecy" in the prequels that Anakin would be the one to destroy the Sith) and (3) was clearly shoehorned in because Rian Johnson killed off Snoke and JJ Abrams had no clue where to go from there and couldn't come up with anything creative and/or new and (4) is introduced alongside a whole bunch of new ideas and concepts (like the idea that if you kill a Sith, he possesses your body) that come out of absolutely nowhere and have no grounding in anything - why didn't Dooku possess Anakin when Anakin killed him? for that matter, why didn't Palpatine possess Vader after Vader threw him down the Death Star shaft? the whole sequel trilogy was a sloppy, stupid, poorly-thought-out mess, and Palpatine's haphazard "return" was a microcosm of this problem. that's why.

I'd say that they are usually comparing each film most strongly to the one that immediately preceded it, rather than to the franchise in general. Given the gap between the first three Indy movies (all filmed in the 1980s), Crystal Skull didn't really have a movie immediately preceding it, and would have inevitably been compared to how people felt about the first three movies *in general*. Dial of Destiny would be more likely to be compared to Crystal Skull explicitly, leading to much lower expectations, and thus a less significant drop than that seen with Crystal Skull. (though some may have been hoping Indy would pull off a reverse Star Trek thing, with the odd-numbered movies generally being better than the even-numbered ones - Temple of Doom was a disappointment when it came out, Last Crusade pulling things back up to the level of Raiders.)

What do you get when you cross a movie sequel that just exists with no purpose and treats the first like trash!? We'll tell you what you get, you get what you F-ING DESERVE!! Okay say what you want about Wonder Woman 1984 but "more characters and more plot" are NOT the problems with that movie. There are only really FOUR important characters within 1984 that have anything close to character development or purpose to the narrative; Wondy herself, "Steve Trevor", Maxwell Lord and Barbara/Cheetah. The first movie actually had MORE plot characters since yeah it didn't have Lord and Cheetah but it did have Antilope and Hippolotya (yeah they were in the prelude of 1984 but that was central just to the message not to the plot), Ludendorf, Doctor Poison, Ares, Etta Candy, Sameer, Chief and Charlie. Plus the whole plot of the original movie was having to go to Man's world and find Ares and Stop World War 1 which honestly had more complications then stopping Maxwell lord from granting everyone's wishes honestly. To me thinking about it the big problem is the fact that this movie super hype up Steve Trevor and make him like Wonder Woman's prime motivation and something she needs to get over which is especially stupid to do because Justice League which 1984 is a prequel to shows she STILL hasn't done that so why have that as a throughline here? Quite frankly it's because Patty Jenkins liked working too much with Chris Pine and wanted an excuse to bring him back as a main character in the movie even though like he really shouldn't be at all. Seriously what Wonder Woman 2 SHOULD have been is cut the pointless setting it in the 80's as still yet another sequel crap; have it set in modern times where Wonder Woman after JL is a beloved hero but one who does still long for the family and people she lost having to cut ties to the Amazons. Like she's been cut off from her people and everyone else she knows just ties off since she's the immortal one compared to them so even the friends in the JL she knows are temporary. Thus when Maxwell Lord tries becoming the Dream Stone and Wonder Woman wishes she could just be with her sisters again like she used to it creates a scenario where the Amazons are thrusted into the World of Men... but quickly grow to see it's corruption and hatred and Diana has to fight against her own people due to the corruption of the wish tainting the Amazons more with hate. Diana though in the end realizes to truly bring about peace means bringing about change thus actually becoming the ambassador to her people knowing it will be a long process intergrating them into the rest of the world but one worth fighting and living for. Seriously why is THAT aspect dropped from Wonder Woman's mythos now? Even for as bad as Aquaman 2 is at least it ended with Arthur actually doing that with Atlantis why couldn't that have been a focus for WW 2?

Cheetah 🐆 was also way under utilized & unfortunately, Kristen Wiig was just miscast. They should have referenced the George Perez run of the comic books in the late 80s for inspiration. That version of Barbara Minerva would have better served & been more cinematic.

@DianaGohan
22 сағат бұрын
@@summertyme5748 Gadot's acting and the CG were on the same level of the first and that was so beloved so it does have to be more then just that to explain why this sequel failed. Again if the plot was better written or focused it could have worked. I do like the idea of Lord wanting to dream stone to be this success and knowing about the cost issue so thus pushing the problem on other people to get what he wants... that could have been done better but yeah if that was a background element and Diana had more going on with her that could have worked. I feel like Jenkins wanting to go lighter did really hurt the action though which yeah was better in the first movie because there the opponents were WWI soldiers and Ares that allowed for a power and bombast that really clicked compared to goofy bank robbers and just out of it normal soldiers and transporters in the 80's or against yeah not a good Cheetah design. Like Ares in the first movie wasn't well designed either but there was at least more of a show of his strength you could get a conneciton from more then this film.

Joker 2 was lightning in a bottle and never going to strike twice. It managed to do what a lot of movies attempt and succeeded the 1st time, but that passsed. It wasnt going to be able to capture that same thing again because we'd already experienced it. And that thing was that it threw out a wide net. A lot of movies always try to throw out a wide net and appeal to everyone, but usually end up appealing to no one. Often alienating its core audience in the process. Joker 1 managed to grab the DC and Batman audience because they were morbidly curious just what it was, and how much Joker was this Joker. As well as grabbing the oscar bait audience. Aside from the accolades, thats what helps its box office numbers so much. But now weve seen and experienced it. No need to revisit. Thats where the 2nd failed. The DC fans didnt particularly care because most felt it was Joker in name only, and they distanced from the oscar bait by making it a musical on top of a court room drama. And musicals are usually tough sells.

Spiral from the Book of Saw was a huge disappointment for me as a Saw fan. I just watched it yesterday for the month of Halloween, and it was a huge disappointment. I knew that Tobin Bell wasn't in it since it takes place after JIgsaw's death, and I thought that Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson would be fun, and they are, but Samuel L. Jackson didn't have much screen time and didn't even have as many memorable lines except for the line that was played in the first trailer. I also did not like the Jigsaw copycat voice. It wasn't good at all, and I could barely even understand or make out what the voice was saying half the time. I wished that they tried to make it sound similar to Jigsaw. I did find out from watching Dead Meat's kill count yesterday after I watched the movie that they were considering using the original Jigsaw voice, but they decided not to use since it wouldn't have made sense. And the twist of who was the Jigsaw copycat was very lame and weak. It's like they didn't even try to replicate the first movie's twist. Also the corrupt cops story has been done to death. The only good things about Spiral were the traps like always, Chris Rock and Samuel L Jackson were both great, and hearing the Hello Zepp music at the end were really good. Otherwise, like I said, Spiral from the Book of Saw was a very disappointing Saw movie.

There’s was 2 Films which I don’t think we’re Disappointing and both were ‘My Favourites’. The first one I disagree with majorly is Joker Folie á Deux. This is literally “One of the Best DC/Best in-general Movie” I’ve ever seen. It really followed so formally, even if Todd Philips didn’t want to do a Sequel, but even if he did, which he did, it followed so well to telling more to Arthur and the matter of fact they made him so Fleshed-out to where we see The Joker in him, from what we saw in the First-Movie, it was such a delight this was a Overall-effect of Mental Health we as the Audience we’re seeing which was the Heartfelt Message which gave it off so differently but remained so Connected as Joker or not to Arthur Fleck which overall as Joker or not he still lived as Joker because he showed the proper to The Joker and The Joker doesn’t always have to be a Character Fully and sometimes it can just be there 1 year thing or more and cut off there but either way it showed that anybody can be The Joker. But anyways they also showed that you don’t need a Big-Quantinewity to make a ‘franchise’ or anything popular, all you need is the Solo Acted which goes into to where he stands at the end of all of these Events he has experienced and then you got your Joker and that’s why Joaquin Phoenix is still hands down “The Best Joker ever” to me that is cause The Joker isn’t always to be brought as a Character he can normally live off as a Persona and honestly the way they handled it, especially way more better to how they did it in the Gotham Series handled it, they done it very well and it was some what of a Multi-Joker Story by the end cause it just shows that anybody can be The Joker which made the Charm so Unique and Orientated, just to let you know before telling more I always go off with a Cliché is well when saying this but I always refer to as a Joke it yet on a Serious-note is well I always call Joker Folie á Deux “Joker No Way Hope” sometimes but yh, but back to it but yh it still is keeping itself close to the actual Main Character which was Arthur Fleck. They also showed so what a different Dynamic shown for the Joker & Harley Quinn Dynamic by showing that she is more of a Villain by putting Arthur in the big spots to where he has live up to this Persona which he is having trouble with and the matter of fact it’s keeping so timed with Arthur, but mostly for the words I’m speaking to off and that is with Lee shows Harley Quinn can be put in Different-shoes is well which made Lady Gaga’s Performance a very big delight too not just from that but also seeing her Fleshed-out too as a Main Characters it was so good seeing so much from the Main Stars. There was overall the Plot is well where it was Musical/Court Session Drama that was Big-charm to the Movie is well both of these Main Character is well and others from the First-Movie have to say in it too. This is why I Rank the same as the First Joker Movie and that is 10.5/10 which is in “My Opinion” for my Ranking Calls is a GOAT for me. Then the second Movie I Disagreed with was Speed 2 Cruise Control. With this Sequel it had hard earning Stakes added more than it being a Bus Ticking Time Bomb, it had more Development in each angle of each Character which made it such a delite so very much for me will always be the best Speed Movie for me. This is why I Rank this Sequel as a 10.5/10 which is called a GOAT too me.
