I greatly appreciate that your Top 10 lists aren't a strictly ordered ranking from least to most, but rather each spot contains a separate sub-category or slightly different take on the overall topic. These sorts of things are almost always subjective, and so it is much more interesting for me to hear "these are ten of our favorite examples of X, and here's why we like each of them."

Just after the series vilian Megabyte crashes the party and jams out some riffs from his BC Rich Warlock, he then cranks the control on the guitar to 11, just before our hero Bob drops in and whips out his own guitar and an epic shred off insues.

I spoke with Edward James Olmos at a convention, and he said he was in a background shot, and had no idea why he was there to begin with (When Dekkard comes in to Bryant's office to be given the 'job' to retire replicants. James said he did not want to attract attention to himself sitting too still, and did not want to distract attention with too much movement, so got a small piece of paper and started making the first origami piece (the chicken), not knowing anything about origami. Then Ridley Scott noticed, James explained what he was doing, and said it was brilliant, and yelled get a camera, shoot the chicken... then one of the coolest movie-plot-prop themes was placed in a movie. He also said his final line was something he came up with thinking that it did not seem right to just walk away. His character would have had something to say, and tried "it's too bad she won't live, but then again, who does"... Just some Blade Runner FYI.
@druidriley3163

I always thought it was the other way around. Without the scene of Deckard's dream, Gaff was already making unicorns. It could be seen that Deckard knew this and it was just a subconcious memory making his dream in the Director's cut. And at the end, with Deckard ready to run off with Rachel, I just thought the presence of the unicorn origami was just Gaff's way of letting Deckard know he was there, but was letting them go. Being a friend, IOW. Not really complicated.
@96Eclipsed

@@druidriley3163 Well, when the studio cut out the Unicorn dream sequence, that's what the unicorn origami became...a thing to let Deckard know that he was there and chose not to retire Rachel. That "comically large sword" was probably a Nodachi; a sword that predated the katana. The Nodachi was very heavy and difficult to make. It required a lot of strength to wield. That helped define the character as a strong man.

Nodachi are not quite so large, and have a much deeper curve. Swords of the size/shape of Kikuchiyos (being impractical) were really only made as offerings to temples/shrines, suggesting that he stole it from one. Gives a slightly different glimpse into the character. No less tragic though.

Whenever these top 10 lists come out, I usually disagree with something. But in this case, everything is perfect - and when I first saw it was about props, I thought it was going to be lame. Very well done!

Props give so much depth and meaning to a movie, exceeding their intrinsic value/meaning as individual items. This video highlights a few of the immeasurable number of items which provide an additional dimension to our cinema viewing experience. Well done to its creators.

Well made. A funny nit pick though: "Along with his hat, it single handedly invokes his image." 1:02 Well... that's quite a contradictory gem. Logic really got whipped in the face there.

That's a very good list. I love how the entries are categorized and how each has its own set of "honorable mentions" with other props. I wish Tony Stark's Arc Reactor was mentioned before #1 though :)

One of my favorite props, the" Disintegrater Integrator", but be careful, it still has a few bugs in it. Thats what they called it in the original The Fly(1958). Another favorite prop, the Krell IQ mind projector. Forbidden Planet (1956). Hey, how about this iconic favorite prop, Robby the Robot, from the same.

The table in My Dinner With André gets my vote. Without that, it would've been like: "Well. This is awkward..." "Yes, it certainly is. Awkward..." I love the origami unicorn in blade runner, but you gotta frickin give it to the shining’ s typewriter/paper. The amount of attention to detail is spectacular, the fact that the formatting changes ever page ups terror much higher than it would have been if they just copied all the same papers.
