You shouldn’t have left out My Fair Lady ❗️Audrey was perfectly adequate to sing the songs, as shown on Blu-ray extras. All they had to do was put in a few high trills by Marnie Nixon, (like they did for Marilyn in “Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend”) and it would be a Perfect movie. Audrey had a Charm & Charisma that Julie lacked for the part. 🌸

Hair! Definitely Hair! The stage musical has the same plot ( with a few exceptions)but it's very avant garde, the film however just makes sense. Call me square but I'm not a fan of the avant garde or the ironically bad.

One glaring omission... 1776. from stage to film it retained most of the B'way cast. Another glaring commission...Jersey Boys, Rent

They did an amazing job with Jersey Boys keeping that structure you have in the stage version. And yes--1776 is woefully unappreciated. I love that musical.

Meh. The movie adaptation was okay. They just ripped from the music to make them spoken parts of dialogue. Even worse, they cut the _best_ songs in the show: "Goodbye Love" and "Christmas Bells" !!!

Hairspray or Grease Dreamgirls was fine but I'd still pick Hairspray over Dreamgirls anyday. Cats was terrible they made that movie inappropriate for no reason at all. Cant wait for Dear Evan Hansen to come out I hope itll be just as good as In The Heights.

I was sad last year when Christopher Plummer passed. I had a bit of a crush on him as Captain von Trappe. The scene when the Captain and Maria dance together is one of my favorites. FYI, if you are ever in Vermont, visit the Trappe Family Lodge. It's a beautiful inn nestled in the mountains. They took that "climb every mountain" bit literally 🙂 It's said they chose that location because it reminded them of the Austrian Alps.

I am very happy you The Sound of Music as number 1 since it is one of my all time favourite musicals and movies. But I also think Oliver! deserved a spot. I wouldn't change anything about the musical but the movie made great changes to make it cinematic like moving the irrelevant act two opener to become the pre-climax number, making the song incredibly tense and desperate and is one of my favourite scenes in cinematic history. It would be my pick along with The Sound of Music. I also think Mamma Mia! should have been mentioned since it has become more well known than the stage show and is a wonderful adaptation, considering they cut it down to an hour and a half.

I agree with #1, but so many were missed! Phantom, Les Mis, The Wiz, Annie, Mamma Mia, Rent, The Last Five Years, Evita, Gypsy, Godspell and Oklahoma would also be on my list. So many great ones you can't possibly get them all.

My main qualm is that you gave Oliver! an honorable mention….I guess that could be because it’s a British film and not extremely well known to American audiences today (unless you’re a movie musical buff). Ron Moody, Oliver Reed, Jack Wild, and of course Shani Wallis (who is HANDS DOWN the best Nancy ever…just listen to her As Long As He Needs Me)….she WAS Nancy and didn’t even get recognized for it.

I still think Marni Nixon should've received _some_ sort of award for "ghost-singing" for Deborah Kerr In The King and I," Natalie Wood in "West Side Story," and Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady." (Too bad she couldn't have sung for Richard Beymer, too, but...)

Great movie! Many of the actors in the movie played the parts on Broadway so as already stated that's a definite plus. The Artful Dodger, Fagin and Oliver Reed as the scary Bill Sykes are highlights of the film.
