I am about your age (21) i grew up owning and playing SNES, Sega genesis, and Nintendo 64. I never owned an NES, but have played it plenty of times and plan to buy one soon. I would also recommend getting the other 3 consoles I mentioned if you already don't own them. I still play those consoles along with modern pc games and have a blast playing them to this day.

amaterasu usaretama I feel you man; I'm 21 and sold my XboxOne for a mint condition Super Nintendo and NES with a ton of games. I gave the current generation consoles a chance but I just wanted to stay with my childhood memories. Plus I work so much that I don't have hours and hours to invest in playing games like I used to. Not that the new generation of gaming is all bad, its just a matter of preference. So enjoy yourself! Retro gaming is where it's at!

Brain Lord! It has to be one of the best and simultaneously most obscure RPGs i've played for NES. It had a really neat combat system using these sprite guardians and the players character. Highly recommend a look. Also Joe and Mac was made for the SNES as well. Very good. Legend of the Mystical Ninja was good too. So many more.

King Voxel Mr. Gimmick is better though famicom audio channels used for maximum kick ass music that makes you think 16-bit. And it is a SNES GAME ON A NES in every aspect. Attention to detail is everywhere. Hit detection is 1pixel by 1pixel on all enemies and you. And it has pyshics unlike most platformers. Parralax scrolling minorly, music that is beyond belief, great level design, and has the very best AI on 16-bit to 8-bit consoles. It is smarter then all 8-bit games and snes. It is mind blowing to play the game and see how unmapitulive they are. You can't manipulate them at all! Got to know the controls and pyshics. Your character actually has weight.

Actually scat has many meanings, none of them is "eating shit", that is plainly wrong. It means "to move away in haste" or "a jazz style" or literally "shit", albeit it usually refers to animal excrement, not human. The whole "shit eating" is not the proper use of the word.

One of my fav (relatively) obscure NES titles is Monster Party. I guess it's not quite as obscure now that a ROM of the original, "uncensored" prototype has recently been leaked, bringing some new fame to the game, but it's always been at least a little obscure, anyway. My friend and I always loved playing it, especially because we're both huge horror fans... I highly recommend looking it up, if you don't know what it is.

My favorite hidden gem on the NES is Konami's The Lone Ranger. It controlled well, was slightly difficult, and had a cool blend of gaming styles. It's got the Zelda 2 style overworld, top down Gauntlet-like combat stages, side scrolling, and Wild Gunman style Zapper sections but more difficult. If you haven't played it it's a classy little game that nobody talks about. Which is a damn shame. It deserved better. Emulate this bastard.

Another great NES game that deserves more recognition is Ufouria: The Saga, another gem by Sunsoft (Mr. Gimmick, Journey To Silius, Batman for the NES). It's a great metroidvania game that only came out in Japan and Europe so it's very sought after and expensive. But I think it's available on the Virtual Console as well. It also had an in-game map (so it was also ahead of it's time) with four playable characters that you can switch to on the fly, each with different abilities (like in Bucky O'Hare). I would love to see you guys play it on James & Mike Mondays if you could get your hands on it. Keep up the great entertainment!
