I love how some people think it's ok to give unsolicited life advice to people on the internet. It's your apartment, your money... Period. 💜

I rented apts for 40+ years and was quite happy renting. I never expected to buy a house--until I did--during crazy covid time. Now I love owning a home, but I purchased when it was the right time for me. Bloom where you are planted. 😊

Home is where you are. House, condo, apartment, RV, etc. Make it reflect you. What you are doing is no different from decorating an owned house. Furniture, rugs drapes, pictures, lamps, plants, etc., are things we all incorporate into whatever our living space is, rented or owned. You are mostly investing in items that you can take with you to your next abode. You are smart, thrifty, a good DIY-er and making the best of your life. Enjoy your space. It's lovely, creative and a place of comfort for you and your friends. Nice video. Thanks for the tips.

Hello! I've just moved into a new "old" building, and have been working on un-packing and moving in for some months now. I do watch your videos, and wish you lived next door to me.......I am into my 60's now, and have trouble doing the types of DIY things you do so very well! Your Bedroom is lovely.....looks like it was cut out of my favorite magazine. I have lived in a lot of rentals.....in my years of working and traveling. I lived over seas for many years as well. Where ever I have lived, I have always cleaned and painted, and created a "home" not just a rental. I look forward to your future videos!! Kind regards, M.

I agree with you 100%. I've been renting for most of my adult life. Like most, I cannot afford a house. So, I decorated the inside of my apartment to remind me of a garden.

I cannot understand living somewhere that doesn' t feel like home. Or that you wouldn't want to make a few changes, even if it is only temporary. It doesn't have to cost shed loads of money. I must say, your bedroom makeover is stunning. If I were your landlord, I'd be really, really happy with a renter like you.

Oh dear, some people are so narrow minded. I grew up in a military family. We never lived anywhere more than a year and a half. I currently am a traveling nurse and yes I rent. What is the big deal with owning a house? I couldn’t afford to buy a house here in Northern California if I had two husbands to assist with the payments and look what happens in California, people pay a fortune for a house and then they go under with it. People are slaves to their homes! I don’t have any problem with people wanting to buy a home and raise a family, but in some situations it really is not practical. And I do resent how people think they have the answer just because it works for them. At least for the moment. Being a nurse, I see many many elderly, get put into a retirement home that sucks while their children take possession of their valuable home. So I just think everyone Hass to do what’s best for them. And understand that just because it’s best for them doesn’t mean it’s best for everyone.

I mean technically a house is a temporary home too because as long as you owe money on it you could lose it any day. Heck even if it’s paid off and you can’t pay your taxes. It’s gone. Just like that.

I like most of your videos, but not every paint job is a "landlord special" even if its a form of beige, white or gray. Landlords know their units need to appeal to the broadest group of people. Putting a "color" on the walls will put some people off. I say this as both a landlord and professional property manager.

Telling people they shouldn't spend money on their home until they own is like telling people they should wait to live their life until they lose weight, or get married, or whatever big life event might affect them. Planning for the future is great, but we're also allowed to live in the present. Great video.

Where you live is your home whether it’s a house, condo, apartment or rv. I don’t get why some people think it’s okay to lash out their negative thoughts to people on the internet. I really enjoy watching people who make their place beautiful regardless of their living situation. Some people are so negative and miserable nowadays! Smh

I’ve rented longer than I like to admit…most of my life…however I make it home. You don’t have to paint but you can decorate how you feel. Spackle is great and not a big deal. After you leave it’s likely the place with get painted anyway. If a landlord says you can’t hang anything thats ridiculous and a deal breaker…for me.

My 'HOME' is now rented in a high rise building. After home ownership for 40 years, I downsized and decided now to rent and invest my money from the sale of my last house. The cost for me to rent was only slightly higher that another purchase, even without a mortgage. I am in an older building (40 years) but was extremely happy to know that it was being totally gutted and renovated to current designs before I moved in. I have swapped out the dining room light for an enclosed ceiling fan/light combo. I have added Removable/Repositionable wallpaper on my entry hall closet doors and an accent wall in my bedroom/den. I also chose to remove the brushed nickel hardware in the kitchen and replace them with matt black. I also painted a 'Faux' rug on the bathroom floor tile. All removed items have been safely stored should they need to be reinstalled. When I walk in my door this space has to bring me joy and it does. I LOVE all your amazing tips, tricks & ideas. You are so very inspirational.

A great tip my daughter learned was to buy the longest curtains available. She has been able to move from a 1970's apartment to a 1890's apartment with very tall windows to her newly purchased 1950 home. Curtains can be hemmed to whatever length needed. She has been able to reuse the curtains in each place. Now that she owns her home she can slowly choose more permanent window treatments while having her windows covered. It is an expense that can be put on hold for now.

That is so smart! I just had to hem the curtains for my bedroom, but I didn't even think how the extra length would help when I want to hang them up in my next apartment. Now I'm glad I didn't cut them!

I just started watching you. Only seen a few of them so far but planning on watching alot more. I never knew there was videos like this. I just happen to come across yours while looking at craft diying videos. I have a wonderful landlord. I can basically do anything to my house within reason that i want as long as im not tearing anything up. Some things he will pay or at least help pay for. So i am so happy to come across a channel like this that will give me lots of wonderful ideas. And not always permanent. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos. May have to ask questions from time to time hope you don't mind. Thanks again.

Thank you for this! I've struggled to want to do some things that I know I would love in my apartment because of the money and the non-permanence but since homeownership is becoming unattainable for a lot of people we deserve to have the space we want despite renting. Plus it gives us opportunities to change stuff and experiment with new styles that we can use to inform how we decorate our forever homes in the future :)

Ali, don’t worry these miserable people. I truly enjoy watching you making your place beautiful and a HOME. Keep up the great work! I am getting ready to implement some of your projects. Teach!! I personally would never even buy a home in the U.S because thanks to taxing, a house is never really yours , it will always belong to the banks. No thank you I will always choose the rent option or a mortgage ( which means death grip).

My husband and I move about every 2 years for his job. We have been renting for almost 11 years now. We love moving and don't want to be tied down by a home. I also spend money on our rentals and love it! I will NOT live in a blank space simply because we rent. Our apartment is our home, not a temporary space. Thabk you for making this video and remember that you never have to defend yourself about the decision you make for yourself!!! ❤

Your ideas can be used in a home and don't break the bank! Normally, I would hesitate to add paneling to a room in my house because of the cost of adding something so permanent. Then what do I do if I get tired of it? Doing it your way saves a ton of money and lets me experiment with a new look that won't cause a lot of angst if I decide it's not for me. Keep it up!

I am so glad that you don't let those kinds of people get to you. They're usually the same ones who can only talk or think about a house as a financial investment and they worry themselves to bits over the resell value and not changing up things that a future buyer might not like, etc. I just can't afford to be bothered with all that nonsense! As a 9 year cancer survivor, I live day to day and do things for me to enjoy now, not the next renter/buyer. I am very fortunate because my dumpy old little rented mobile home sits on a beautiful and quiet lot, I have a really good landlord, and the only close neighbors are a sweet young family who are the best neighbors I have ever had because they are quiet and peaceful themselves and are so sweet to me when we do get together to chat. I'm a mid sixties senior citizen living on a very modest income and I love seeing your diy ideas!! You give me so many great ideas and inspiration to adapt them to my needs. And I just love your sweet, honest, humble nature coupled with your awesome talent and creativity! Thank you for being here for us!!❤️
