Love that you gave a mention to Contact. I know it was a bit slow for people in the first half and not hugely popular but I'm always surprised and delighted when I meet people who loved it. Every time I think about it more or rewatch it I realise it was even more brilliant than I had thought. The themes in it are just interwoven beautifully into what seems like a biopic for most of the movie. It's way more brilliant than people give it credit for.

***** ayy lmao Why not? It's a great film and possibly the most influential, defining sci-fi film of the decade. Despite a use of animatronics/practical effects as well, it's certainly one of the main reasons - for better or for worse - why so much CGI is used in films today (yeah, I know, Terminator 2 which came before Spielberg's film and the Matrix and other films were important in that regard as well, but convincing dinosaurs imo took it even further than a liquid terminator). One shouldn't underestimate its groundbreaking Impact even if you can argue the film's influence and merit compared to the first two spots. I think, though, the first three spots are pretty much interchangeable, I'd probably put Matrix at no. 1.

ayy lmao I don't have a problem with someone saying the Matrix or T2 (or even other films on the list like the underrated 12 Monkeys or The Iron Giant) are better, I just don't think it's fair to ridicule someone for saying Jurassic Park should be no. 1. It's a great, hugely influential film and imo Spielberg hasn't made a film quite as fantastic since (and yes, that inlcludes Schindler's list, Saving Private Ryan, Minority Report, Catch me if¨you can and every other film by him after Jurassic Park, people can laugh at ME for that if they want).

Starship troopers, is a really good movie and should have made the list IMO. I never went to see it at the theaters, I watched the trailer, and thought this was just going to be some corny, shoot monsters on another planet movie. plus the title of the movie sounds so 50s B movie. What a pleasant surprise when I saw it on cable, great character development, dialog, special effects, I still go wow, when I see that ship break apart, and you can see every floor in flames with intricate detail. - The only good bug, is a dead bug.

I shouldve figured Star Wars Episode 1 wouldnt get a spot on the list as an honorable mention at least, considering everybody hates that movie just because it tried to reach the child audience of the day by adding in a little bit of comedy. Just totally forget it delivered the best piece of Star Wars score (Duel of the Fates) apart from the theme song and The Imperial March, or it introduced us to one of the most evil sith lords of the franchise, Darth Mauk. Lets just overlook it because ofJar Jar Binks and Anakin Skywalker, who we had to cast as a kid but somehow everyone doesnt understand and still hates.

Not even close. Dark City is a vastly superior film. One of several on the list much better than the Matrix. Dark City is basically The Matrix, but with aliens instead of AI/machines. The plot of The Matrix is a nearly complete ripoff of Dark City, with much of the same imagery also taken from the film. Watch the movie. Be blown the fuck away. Then tell me The Matrix is a better film in any area other than its special effects. Twelve Monkies is also significantly (see: stunningly) greater than The Matrix. Brad Pitt didn't win an Oscar for no reason; the film is extraordinary. I like that you have opinions, but educate yourself on films first.

I think you're mistaken. This is the top ten BEST sci-fi films of the 90's- not the top ten worst.

Even if I love Terminator 2, I strongly disagree with this list. First of all, Contact is the best movie in the filed of, you know, science, even if it's not that popular, it should have been in this list, not in honorable mentions. Then, yes, Jurassic Park have good effects, but, c'mon, it's not that great. You know guys, that Matrix is the best movie of this decade. It redefines the way to make movie, redefines the special effects, and it's also great. It should be #1, easily.

I'm still chocked. For me, it was obvious that Matrix would be the nº1 of this list. I also like jurassic park, and terminator 2 is awsome but come on! Matrix is just on another level of greatness.

Sabrina Peraza Well, no. I really think that Contact is the best Sci-fi movie of the 90's. First of all, it's hard science fiction, the real sci-fi. Next, it have a message, it's touching, and have a conclusive story, but gives you hints that something greater will come in its own universe. But being fair, this lists are a mix up of a popularity contest, and yeah, good movies. That's why, Matrix is in #1. Also, at least the first one, have a complex story, good art, great effects, and it's the start of a new area of movies of the next decade/century/millenium.

Jurassic park has good Effects, a good story, strong character, and a classic setting, so how is it not that good? It should have easily gotten #1 Saying JP gets #2 for the 1990's is like saying Star wars episode VI gets #2 for 1980's

***** A. it is possible to genetically engineer creatures which resemble the appearance of a dinosaur. B. Just because it's impossible for a deceased corpse to start walking the earth, does that mean The Walking Dead classifies as Science Fiction?

tabularmite Wow...dude...just wow. You're inaccuracy is all over the place here. How can you claim Jurassic Park is not a Sci-fi film? "it is possible to genetically engineer creatures which resemble the appearance of a dinosaur" Ok cool, but that is NOT the same as actually genetically engineering a fully living dinosaur from the given era, ergo SCI-FI. Secondly, wow...the Walking Dead comparison was just completely incorrect. Of Course The Walking Dead is just horror and not sci-fi, there's no explanation as to how they are reanimating in the show. If it happens to be voodoo, then it would be in the dark/horror genre. If it was a disease, then it would be in the biological outbreak/horror genre. If it is a bio-engineered super-soldier serum gone wrong, then it could possibly be considered sci-fi/horror.
@dsaillant811

tabularmite Yes it does lol. Walking dead is horror sci-fi due to the fact that it's scientifically impossible to reanimate corpses. That's the definition of sci-fi my friend. And jurassic park was about REAL dinosaurs, not animals that look like them. I could get a furry costume and say I look like a T-Rex, would that make my life sci-fi?

***** You clearly misunderstood what I said so I am not even going to go into it. Also if you research online you will see that Walking Dead is a Drama, Horror and Action. not science fiction.

How in the hell is Contact not in the top 10? I know it got an honorable mention, but it deserves to be in the top 5, let alone top 10. Such a great movie.

for watch mojo news, can you do 10 facts on why Darren Wilson's non indictment was not a good choice. Including the fact that the jury had 9 whites and 3 blacks, when 9/12 must say no indictment for the person not to be indictment. The prosecution attorney supported Wilson, how wilson called Mike Brown an "It" and a "demon." Not to mention they called social media, which had first person accounts of protests and the attack on some protesters, an invalid way to show things that happened. And that an autopsy showed that Mike Brown was show with his hands up in defense. Please
