I haven’t read as much Silver Age as I have later periods, but there’s still plenty of cool issues and you did a great job of showcasing them! In addition to the ones you talked about, I’m also fond of Robin Dies at Dawn.

This brings back memories! I fell in love with your channel because of the older comics you covered. I started reading Batman comics in 1982, the issue where Killer Croc first appears. The Silver age stories I read were mostly Superman, hence, your channel was quite a comicbook education. I haven't left ever since and now look forward to your reviews of the post No mans land stories, which is where I stopped reading regularly. Thank you, SZ!

Oh I forgot to mention this during the knightfall videos so I'll say it hear. There was actually an audio book adaption of Knightfall in the audio book adaptation Michael Gough who played Alfred in the Tim Burton and Joel Shumacher Batman films reprises his role as Alfred.

Your channel is bat-beautiful and it is remarkable that you are a true comic book reader and not just some generalist who is good with the fundamentals but is not reading and feeling the stories. My advice , put something bat related in your channel logo .

While I agree that Batman 171 is important due to Riddler's reintroduction, I think his best comic during the Silver age (and also one my favorite Batman comics of the time) is Batman 179 "The Riddle-Less Robberies of the Riddler", in which Nygma tries to stop given riddles about his crimes. Despite taking place in the silver age, the story is a good psychological study of Riddler's mind, showing how is gimmick of leaving riddles is actually a compulsion. This would become later a strong aspect of most of Batman rogues: Most of them are insane, have mental issues and most of the stories focus on their screwed-up psyche.

Great list, but is The Man Behind the Red Hood a Silver Age story, though? I think 1951 was still the Golden Age. I don’t think the Silver Age started until 1956.

For me Batman #180 is by gar the best Silver age story. Despite being a silver age story it is really dark. Lord Death Man is the first villain to have his henchmen dress in similar attire to himself which is a trope that I am always a fan of. Also, I like how mysterious he is with a mask that nobody else seems to be able to remove and I love the panel were Batman has nightmares about him fearing that he might be supernatural since he seems to come back from the dead. Also gotta love the poetic justice of him being struck by lightning on the exact same time that he was about to be executed.

Couple silver age issues I have are just for the silly covers like Batman 183 and 191. The story for 183 was semi silly, but I wouldn't say full blown camp. Any others from the silver age you recommend that didn't make the list? Not necessarily key issues, but solid reads from Gardner Fox or Bill Finger?

One that almost made it to the list was Detective Comics 366. One of those Gardner Fox/Carmine Infantino stories that tried to break away from the camp with suspense and great art. Beyond that I'd say Tec #329 and Batman issues #166 and #204. All around good stuff.

'Holy Encyclopedia, Batman...!!! What a groovy list...!' 'Precisely, old chum...a stirring chronicle of our Silver Age endeavours to make Gotham City a safe place for decent citizens everywhere through derring-do and copious Bat-gadgetry...now, there's not a moment to lose, so let's race to the Bat-comments section...!!!' 'Holy KZitem...!!!' (Sorry, I just couldn't resist...always wondered where the '60s TV series got Robin's 'Holy!' habit from, though...after all, I don't think he ever used that particular expression anywhere near as often in the Silver Age Bat-comics themselves prior to Batman 66 as he did in the show itself, after all...but I could be wrong, yes...?!).
@SalazarKnight

Not wrong. The "Holy" Robin catchphrases were popularized by the Batman TV show and the comics adopted them for the duration of the show. Afterwards, comic fans disliked the phrase so much that Batman editorial decided to stop using it entirely.
