Dirt Rally 2.0 saved my life. I had been playing it regularly on my steering wheel and pedals setup for a few months after it came out. I was driving on the freeway and went around a blind turn where a car had broken down in my lane. I slammed on the brakes and changed lanes into the next lane, but at that point I had started to lose control and slide sideways. I used my learned muscle memory from the game to let off the brake, got my truck straight, and accelerated out of the slide all within the course of a few seconds. Had I kept my foot on the brake, I probably would have slid into the second lane over where a semi-truck would have t-boned me.

That's amazing, and I definitely believe it. (Just to note I also recently read a news post with a very similar story.) Through my time playing with a force feedback wheel in Assetto Corsa, ETS2, and Dirt Rally 1 I've definitely learned or picked up things that would be essential in dangerous situations. That feeling of losing traction is never evident in Real life since you're probably not going at high enough speeds, turning fast enough, in general not risking anything that much. But in racing games especially ones that are quite intensive like the Dirt rally series you really get to grips with how a car operates and how it reacts to each and every thing you do. I think my time drifting in Assetto Corsa is definitely going to translate well into real life once I drive a car for myself. That feeling of losing traction and how you handle that is definitely something you get from simulator games that you will get an advantage from in real life.

Subsequently, this game teaches you how to deal with your K/D ratio being stuck at 0. - Kerbal Space Program teaches you that rockets always fly into the ground, regardless of how many Scott Manley videos you watch. - And Star Citizen teaches you that a) even your seat belt doesn't prevent you from falling through the floor of the cockpit, and b) Chris Roberts knows how to burn cash, because there's no other explanation for why SC is a $300M bug fest while ED took just about $10M to make and is actually playable.

iRacing a bit too professional for casual gamers, true that they teach you real life skills but goddamn F1 drivers practice on that shit! So I guess it would be too much to handle... LoL

I think there should've at least been one racing simulator game and then they mentioned the rather large list of racing simulators out there. Perhaps they should've mentioned Assetto Corsa and alongside it mentioned iRacing, Project Cars, Automobilista, etc...

Jacob Lyalls I loved PCars 2 because of the ambiance but it is so inconsistent. People sometimes equate difficulty to realism. PCars was difficult (for me) due to its lack of realism. That “soapy” feeling of driving at higher speeds was very disappointing. People can say “oh, you didn’t adjust your settings properly” but my IRL car drove way more realistically in AC than it did in PCars 1 & 2. In VR, Raceroom and especially Assetto Corsa are way better than Pcars.

Seriously, how can you make a list like this and not have iRacing on here? It's literally a program that real-world professional drivers use to improve their IRL driving skills. I don't think @gameranx could have found a video game that fit their title more (other than maybe DCS which only got an honorable mention, smh). This and some of their other more recent videos (like putting COD on 10 best sniping games yet not even mentioning a game like Tarkov) has made me realize Gameranx is suffering the same fate as traditional media. Instead of gamers who happen to make content about what they know and love. Gameranx has now turned into a media company that happens to make content about video games. They are more worried about pushing out content than whether or not there is any truth behind that content. @gameranx before you throw up your next 'top ten X' video please stop to consider whether you or the writer actually has the knowledge needed to decently judge X's category before you continue to ruin your reputation as "gamers". I'm saying this out of love.

I feel like Eve Online maybe could've been on that list, despite being a sci-fi MMORPG. As a whole It's basically a simulation of an advanced dystopian civilization. The unique rules and mechanics of this game make it so that depending on the role you take in-game, you can learn a lot about human behavior, organisation management, event creation and business practices. I get why it's not on the list, but it could've been.

If we're bringing MMOs into this, I recommend you look into WoW's "Corrupted Blood Incident." It's not a skill, but is an interesting read (albeit a little on the nose).

You are specifically talking about Science Fiction, and in Science-Fiction, there is the statement that the science implied in it, is fiction, do we look like we have advanced distopian civilization to manage somewhere in this world? Off topic

@@jaimytourigny3027 The point of the video is : RL skills learned from simulation games. You focused on the sci-fi bit of my comment but you may have missed the part where i mention learning about human behavior, organisation management, event creation and business practices. These are skills quite useful to have IRL right now. EVE is a civilization simulation and you learn RL skills from it. That was the point of the video. I don't think it is as off-topic as you say it is. The fact the game is sci-fi, dystopian and contain made-up science is irrelevant to the point made in my original comment. Even if i didn't mention those aspects of the game, it wouldn't change that it's a simulation in which you learn RL skills.

Spetial mention to "Wurm" : I must admit Wurm has some interesting realism in it and it's logic and mechanics really help provide this feeling. Every mechanic is full of details you need to master, knowledge to gather, in order to fully exploit the potential of your creation and playstyle, just like in real life, and you end up feeling like you live a second life so to speak. Also, a Steam Online version will come out near the end of the month, with new dedicated servers, so why not go try it out when it release?

Wurm will always hold a special place in my gaming history. The online MMO version is THE MOST grindy game I've ever seen, ever. Wurm on Steam with hosted servers and sped up progression is about perfect. Still a sense of challenge, and time, but not a full second life.

I knew NOTHING about PC's. I always got intimidated by the idea of open a PC and just do stuff. I decided to download PC Building Simulator a couple years ago and men. I LEARNED SO MUCH. Since then i had build 3-4 PC's. 2 for me,1 for my brother and parents. I downloaded the game as a joke, but i glad i did because i learned at lot more i was expecting

I have played almost every single one of these... But the one that made me happiest was the car mechanic simulator... I mean I don't even have a driving license ... I knew nothing about cars... and when I say nothing it means I knew color and that it has wheels ... but now I actually can say what parts are there, where you can eventually find them... And I was able to prove my father in law wrong... and that my dearest friends was the best feeleng in my life

Most realistic thing in Farming Simulator is you really dont work on fields, you hire neighbour kid to do it for you (with ridicilous small pay), while you move machinery from field to another.

It's a stretch of the simulator definition but I think Elite: Dangerous should've been an honorable mention. It definitely helps show the true scale of interplanetary space. It doesn't actually teach a real-world skill, hence honorable mention, but it blew my mind the first time I spent hours roaming around a small moon only to find out I had only explored a fraction of it.

Built my first PC because I played the older Car Mechanic Simulator games and wanted to play 2018. I had always been a car guy but that game really showed me what was going on and gave me a good idea of what to expect. Right around the time I was playing it I was rebuilding my own motor with a buddy of mine and it was impressive how close to real world they got. Also bought Snowrunner when it came out because I liked the look of it and have put a ton of hours into it and probably only halfway through, definitely recommend
