_I love Lucy_ was not only one of the first shows with a Hispanic lead and an interracial marriage, but it revolutionized how sitcoms were made, and it's still wildly entertaining today.
@chrismulwee4911

Here's a rather obscure I Love Lucy fact. Despite being a weekly primetime series, the show was filmed and prerecorded using MOVIE cameras. That's what Desi Arnaz wanted, part of which he hated the poor quality of kinescope recordings of otherwise live TV show, that had preceded it. I imagine that Desilu filmed ALL their shows with movie cameras, thus a much higher quality look.

I adore "Golden Girls", and how they weren't afraid to delve into topical issues. My favourite moment has to be when Blanche rightfully called out Rose for assuming that AIDS was a "Bad Person's Disease", when Rose is questioning why she's more likely of contacting the disease than Blanche, who's had multiple romantic partners.

It's hard to believe that "Family Matters" was once your typical run of the mill sitcom, until Steve Urkel was introduced, that is. While he definitely livened things up with his zany schemes, I felt sorry for Jo Marie Payton, the original Harriette, who left after getting fed up of playing second fiddle to Urkel, when it was HER spinoff sitcom to begin with.

I cannot BELIEVE this list!!! I Love Lucy is the most influential TV sitcom??? No mention of the Mary Tyler Moore Show, or MASH? As for Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball being an interracial couple, Hispanics are considered to be an ethnicity, not a race. But more importantly, most of the other shows on this were far more innovative and groundbreaking.
@davidannderson9796
Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure MASH really counts as a sitcom. More like a drama with laughs. But as for I Love Lucy, Lucille Ball had to fight to get Desi Arnaz on the show. They did Not want a mixed white-Hispanic couple on television. Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz created their own production company, Desilu, which went on to produce half the great TV shows of the 60's- including Star Trek- because no one was willing to produce a show starring a mixed white-Hispanic couple. Even then, it only got on the air because Lucille Ball fought hard for it, and because Lucille Ball pointed out that the two were married in real life. They took on daring social stances in one other instance at least, when the show became the first television show to have a pregnant character, or even admit that pregnancy existed. But this is not shows that are socially ahead of their time. It is shows that are ahead of their time. I Love Lucy all but invented the sitcom. And perfected it. Domestic comedy has been around for thousands of years; I Love Lucy showed how to do it as a running, character-based series with 20 episodes a year, rather than as a single, stand-alone story. Shows from Seinfeld to Will and Grace, from The Honeymooners to Friends to The Mary Tyler Moore Show draw upon how I Love Lucy was set up as a character-based show. And that is just one of many aspects of sitcoms as we know it that began with this show. Most of the typical classic sitcom tropes and techniques that you see in I Love Lucy were invented by that show. Anyway, enjoy your television! Have fun!

They also featured Susan and Carol raising a baby together and co parenting with Ross, which I didn't even know gay people did. What I liked about will & grace was what jack & Karen meant. They were essentially extreme version of will & grace. They also acted individually as sidekicks to each character and as a combo. Will/jack, grace/Karen, will & grace/jack&karen.
@breanainn28

Originally Karen was only supposed to be a recurring role, but she was so popular they decided to keep her as a series regular. I don't know how Megan managed to do it, but she managed to make a drug addicted, alcoholic, narcissistic, fashionista, shade throwing, extremely rich wife to an obese man who she loved dearly a palatable and funny character. The reboot was even funnier than the original run. I practically pissed myself laughing when Jack used too much numbing creme and his whole face and hands went numb just before his Zoom call with Estephan, and Will tricked him saying eating a banana may reverse the numbing on his tongue.

"Do you approve of homosexuals?" "It doesn't matter if I approve or disapprove. They are human beings, they exist. That's like asking me if I approve of dwarfs." Never watched Maude, but I think this line hits it square in the head. Not gonna get too much into religious beliefs, but if God wanted all humans to be heterosexual, Ruth wouldn't have stayed with Naomi, David and Jonathon wouldn't have had that special connection amongst each other, the two women in the story of Jesus waking up Lazarus wouldn't have been living together, and so on. To quote Tess from the drama Touched By an Angel "God has a plan for all of us". The show featured different angels from different backgrounds, races, there was one with down syndrome, and even though the show didn't feature anyone under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, if it did there might have been an angel for them as well. Bottom line is, everyone is human regardless of their backgrounds, and we shouldn't judge one another based on those backgrounds.
