One thing I wish I knew before I started... When you fight wars, you will end up capturing enemies. Sometimes lords and ladies, and sometimes their Knights! You may be able to random them for a pittance (given most lords are cash poor), let them go for a hook, or recruit them. RECRUIT ENEMY KNIGHTS! It's free. You'll often find knights with 20 prowess just sitting in your dungeons that you can use to just bolster your ranks. It's a great great thing, especially mid game when you have trouble keeping 10+ knight slots full with high quality fighters.

One good tip: don't use your heir as a knight/champion. It can really mess with the succession. I had set my heir up to inherit the kingdom of England and almost all of the Irish Duchies. He died in battle one year before my character died. My new heir was only the duke of Mercia and vassal of the king of England (who happened to be one of my grandsons). Just forbid him being a knight/champion. I also ussually do this with all my other sons, as I ussually marry them to important women and set them up to inherit some nice titles for themselves. Would be a shame for the dynasty to lose out on those titles. And most of the times they won't even have a lot of prowess. I also do this with my best councelors. Would be a shame to lose a spymaster with 25 intrigue. Hard to find a good replacement.

you can also still select what kind of lifestyle you want your kids to be educated in like in CK2 ;) the icon is just very small and you don't get a notification about it that you can do it. It's to the left of the screen in the child's portrait icon, just above their stats. also: what kind of building you can build, depend on the holding type. If its a city holding, you can build guilds (or your cultural equivalent) which boost both income and development. Development is very important for spreading tech. I thought it was the same buildings you could have no matter the holding type but it dynamically changes which is great.

@@alistairwilliams9074 good tip is to use the 📌 function on your kids. Helps to remind you to set the education. Remembering to set it ASAP (6) is huge. If your kid hits 9 or 10 and you switch it then itll probably be a one star education. Another thing they don't tell you is that high learning is really good for tutoring. So if your the guardian, jump into the scholar tree and get the pedagogy and the third perk on the tree that gives you 2 learning for each level of piety. Can be up to plus 8 learning. If you go further down the tree you'll get 20% of your councilors main stats onto yours and finally set your wife to patronage in the council menu and you can be pushing 25 + learning if you have a decent base. Even turning a 0 into 12 will be huge. I try to have kids later in life after completing another tree. Between your corresponding stat and your learning stat youll give them a pretty good education trait. So for example i had a three star stewardship education for like 17 total, then i did the architect tree too keep it at like 18 or 19. got a genius son, Divorced my wife and married an old scholar lady. Switched to scholar tree, jacked my learning with her patronage bonus. Lucked out and got him zealous, diligent, and patient. Came of age with the best education and nothing below ten and like a 18 stewardship before lifestyles and marriage. Pedagogy will keep the other stats manageable. So by maxing out my stewardship and learning i made a wicked good steward. I know thats really long, but its a paradox thing lol

Good video for starters, thank you. Managing knights correctly is HUGE for your success. Making sure that you 'forbid' characters in order to protect their lives is extremely important. Remember that when any of your sons turn 16 they automatically become 'available' as a knight in your army, even your player heir. Being aware of this - and making sure to protect important vassals and councillors - is crucial. Incidentally, a great way to recruit powerful knights for free is by clicking 'negotiate release' on one of your male prisoners who has a high prowess. You should then have the option to recruit him, and he will automatically become available as a knight in your military. Recruiting prisoners in this fashion is also a good way to recruit characters with claims into your court. I recently recruited a prisoner with a claim on the Kingdom of England and immediately pressed his claim, making him my vassal (I was Emperor of Russia). Characters whos claims you have recently pressed are often so grateful that they will allow you to 'arrange marriage' between one of the children of your dynasty and theirs (make the marriage matrilineal if it's with a female child of your dynasty), ensuring that your vassal's realm will eventually pass into the hands of your dynasty.

I personally find that the diplomacy lifestyle is the best. You can forge alliance without marriage or betrothals, managing relations with your family can become very easy, you can get a lot of easy skill points (with my first character, I got my diplomacy skill up to 40 and I can get it even higher) and you can get befriended with people. If you befriend vassals, they can't join a faction. This is particularly good against your most powerful vassals.

With the Knights or champions or whatever the flavor du jours is for whoever you're playing, my question is how to stop your own character from sometimes automatically leading raised armies? I had a knight with 20 prowess who was set to "force" and still, every time I would raise an army, my leader would command it by default and I've have to change. This doesnt happen with all of the rulers, only some of them, and I cant figure out why. I dont know who to see my leader's prowess since he doesnt show up in the knight list, but the one i'm referring to had a low combat skill, it was 9.
@MordredViking
4 жыл бұрын
Commanders and knights are two different things with different stats. Prowess is their ability *in* battle (and their chance to not die in battle), but Commander Advantage, mostly derived from Martial Skill, is for Commanders. Knights fight in the battle as a participant, wheras a Commander commands the army and provides an army-wide bonus. You will have multiple Knights in each army, usually between 5-20. You can select who is in command of an army, though the game has a very annoying tendency to swap people around. No way that I know of to "lock* this though. You can force or forbid Knights which will stop them from participating as a Knight, but don't think it will preclude them from being a Commander.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong but it certainly looked as if the raid timer was at least much more malleable though the 30 day boat boarding does seem to be fairly fixed and that would make raiding a strong nation difficult but with how often the karligs fight there should be opportunities to raid while they are regrouping or busy else where though the days of getting the exposed loot fast and easy that was ck2 raiding are certainly a thing if the past

Love how to the point your videos are! Would love to see one on the best starts based on congenital traits, haven't found much for that online yet.

can we get a link for the music in the background, is this something that can be put in game because the music isn't the greatest in the vanilla version.

CK4 seems significantly darker (in the light sense) than CK2. I'm struggling to even see the screen behind you without truing my brightness up to maximum.

Not saying that I am saying I am having no troubles witch tells us it is not strictly the games brightness could be any number of other reasons you are seeing it to dark watching it on a different monitor or device that would be my first guess

So no naval based raiding viable? The major reason the nordic raids were so feared was the speed and flexibility. How can it take 30 days to embark 1000 troops. Silly game mechanic. Fine to nerf raiding compared to CK2, but this completely gimps the idea of going viking. Then they should also make the enemy army cost an enormous sum to keep standing as the lack of standing armies was the reason raiding could happen. So they met levies only, and only engaged if they wanted as it was often more safe to board the ships and sail off.

Yeah hit and run is basically impossible. This just means that low-strength regions get hit HARD whereas more powerful, centralised states (like West Francia and Wessex) are barely touched, whereas historically they were hit just as hard, if not more so because they were perceived as being wealthier.

Your the only one who has explained attrition properly. Thanks. Does anyone know if it possible to approach a castle to take without losing 200 troops. (1 for adjacent and 1 for the castle)

Honestly attrition is still a complete mystery to me. I think that’s how it’s supposed to work, but reality is completely different.

@@MordredViking I suspect it's working on very similar mechanics to Zone of Control from EU4. It's mostly to punish running past unsieged forts so you can't just beeline capitals without taking a bunch of attrition. I believe you can always move into or out of friendly or neutral territory, including seas and rivers, without attrition. So in your example, you can avoid attrition up and down the river when raiding by hopping into and back out of your boats.
