The Queen and her body guard once walking around the woods of Balmoral (she has a private house there, away from the castle and the tourists) and she ran into a tourist who was slightly lost. He asked if she lived near by and asked for directs, and she said she did and explained where the tourist was in relation with the castle. He then asked if she had ever met the Queen, to which she answered, "I haven't" then pointed at her bodyguard and added "but he has".

Bahaha that is gold! It kind of reminds me of when Diana was engaged to Charles and was visiting a nursing home a few days before the wedding. She was introduced to an elderly resident, who, suffering from memory loss and momentarily confused, said "Will you be watching the wedding?" "No," replied Diana, "I'm in it."
Still not sure how I feel about that... Yes, she's the Queen. But that doesn't mean she can disrespect the King. She's the Queen of her country and commonwealth, not his country as well..

My brother was one of the Queens guards. One day when he was at his post at Windsor Castle the Queen came out with her dogs and spoke to him. A lot of elderly people do experience some hearing loss as they age but this was in 1981 - 38 yeas ago - that means the Queen would have been 55 when the incident occurred and unlikely to have been suffering from age related hearing loss at that time. As the camera microphone picked up the sound of the shots and her horse most certainly heard them, I'd guess the Queen heard them just fine. Try this one: During her visit to Canada Queen Elizabeth was in a reception line. Margaret Trudeau, wife of currently prime minister Pierre Trudeau , approached to greet her. Protocol dictated that she was to shake the Queen's hand and then curtsy. In her excitement Margaret curtsied too low. So much so that it was quite evident that she was not going to rise with dignity or without help. Much to her surprise the Queen, seeing her prediciment, simply maintained her handshake with Margaret and merely stiffened her grip allowing Margaret to pull herself up with the Queens subtle assistance. Sometimes being badass means doing it without anyone else's knowlege.

When Malaysians were marching peacefully to amend electoral laws and procedures for fair elections, bright yellow was the theme colour. The queen's mom was pretty cool. They were supposed to evacuate Britain with a large amount of civilians, but she said, "My kids will not leave me. I will not leave my husband. The king will not leave his country. We aren't leaving." So, even though Britain was being bombed, she refused to evacuate.
@FortunaFortesJuvat

A bomb fell on the grounds of Buckingham Palace, and the Queen Mother smiled and said "At least now, when I go to the East End (the industrial part of London that suffered heavy bombing) I can look it straight in the face" On some of her first visits to bombed out areas, many of which were very poor to begin with, she showed up in her best clothes, she was booed by the crowds and even had garbage thrown at her. She was interviewed, and asked why she subjected herself to such abuse. She said that most of the people who came to see her wore their best clothes, and it would be an insult of the highest degree not to show them the same respect. She never had things thrown at her again.

Well, the exact words were "The children will never leave without me. I will never leave without the King. And the King will never leave his country." The thing that mainly shone on her was good breeding and good luck. I doubt if any "deity" was involved. It's also lucky that she is and has been a good queen. While I admire her as a person, the form of government is odious. What if she'd been horrible? She'd still be the queen. I often remember all the murders and executions carried out in the name of British royalty. When the processions start, with all their grandeur, pomp and ceremony, it's easy to forget the victims of this essentially unfair system of human government.

@@johndutfield7382 only one of them had nazi sympathies and all evidence is from after his abdication and exile. King George VI became good Friends with Churchill During the war and recognized their importance in reinforcing the British resolve to fight on. Queen Elizabeth the Queen mother said she was glad the palace had been bombed, so on visits she could look the people of the east end in the face. Also she said when question about moving to Canada for safety during the war. The queen's answer was unexpected and remained forever in the annals of history. It also motivated the inhabitants of the country to fight against Hitler's Germany. She replied that, “The children won't go without me, I won't leave without the King, and the King will never leave.”

My second removed uncle who served in the Canadian Air Force flew the queen back to London after she visited Canada, she gave my uncle and the copilot a tour of the palace, he ran into a duke and he tells me that he thought the duke was a butler.

I used to work in a care home, where one of the residents had served in WWII. She said the Queen (was a Princess then) once gave her a lift to the barracks. Bless this lady, she did not remember even being a mother of 4 children, but she remembered this event.

As a Brit I can only say we are immensely proud of her! Even those dopes who don't get what the monarchy means to most of us can respect a woman who at the age of *93* is still putting in a shift for our nation! Probably our *GREATEST* ever monarch - a benign, reliable, dependable touchstone of what it is to be British. *Thank you Ma'am!*
