Dear readers and subscribers, we would like to express our heartfelt support towards every single person who is involved or affected by the unthinkable and distressing war terrors in Ukraine at this very moment. CAI financially supports the following organizations. Let's make a difference together and feel free to donate to the International Committee of the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, and Save The Children (links in the description). As mentioned in the video, may art be a stepping stone towards comfort and global awareness, or channel our anger and sorrow into strength and resilience. What strikes me the most is to see how every artist within the video is occupied with political art, critiquing and creating awareness for the vulnerability of the Ukrainian political climate for all those years. It shows once more the visionary character and importance of contemporary art. Enjoy, and chat soon!

I am really impressed by your selection and inspired to get to know more about Ukrainian artists! I recently discovered that Malevitch was, and not Russian. Typical example of colonist appropriation ( I am French so unfortunately usually on the appropriation side of invaded cultures)

Yes, Malevich grew up during the Soviet Union, of which Ukraine used to be a part of. So in a way, he is both Russian and Ukrainian. Ukraine has some terrific artists, today and in the past!

Hi Chris, let's pray indeed. So many of the artists of our list work and reside in areas who have been hit heavily. Thus, it felt very ambiguous to make this list for so many reasons, I hope everything is safe and well

Please keep us informed as to the work of these artist-post war. The work surely will speak beyond the news bites of nightly news channels. The work may allow a process that goes beyond the ruinations of war. That there is a catharsis and these artist and all Ukrainians, find way to survive with their humanity intact.

The outbreak of the conflicts you have mentioned happened before we existed as a KZitem channel. But you are 100% right to point out the often double standards of western empathy, in particular by the media.

@@contemporaryartissue Thank you very much for your attention and justified answer. Which ends up making me regret the probable lack of financial resources for CAI to create a line of videos with contemporary artistic expression outside the North America/Europe axis. (If Art, in this concept, as I at least conceive it, goes beyond the capitalist Western Christian universe)
@contemporaryartissue

@@leba51able We aim strongly to go beyond the traditional canon of Western contemporary art, but it takes time to do all the resource and indeed, some other surveys are more urgent to gain new resources. But recently we have published a video on African painting, we are currently conducting a survey on Chinese art and are certainly planning to visit and examine every single continent or even country and showcase it on our platform. That is our mission without any doubt

Artists picked by Contemporary Art Issues out of these countries would be those who oppose the traditions and culture of these countries, who follow the western trends and who promote western values. Art is a part of the war propaganda machine. And CAI is very active on the neocolonialism side. 🤮

Your list of Ukranian artists doesn't include any really good one. It proves that celebrities in the art market are made nowadays by PR, propaganda and conformity to the trends only. Abominable!
