Excellent video, really good tips :) Tip No 11 - Breakdown cover. If you have a contact in Germany then use their address to get ADAC Plus cover (inc UK), it is really cheap and covers all types of breakdowns for any vehicle you are in. Tip No 12 - Small safes are quite cheap now and can be installed in a cupboard, bolted to the van floor. Great for holding cards/cash/passports/tickets/laptop/tablet etc etc while you are out of the van.

A couple of things for other people. Two better cards are Revolt (prepaid debit) and Halifax Clarity (credit), they offer better rates, infact they offer the actual bank rate with zero fees, you literally can't get better. Also that motorhome wifi thing you have is a rebranded Ubiquiti Nanostation Loco M2. If you know what you're doing you can set it up yourself cheaper. It's a unidirectional antenna, so you need to know where the wifi is coming from which can be a right pain, and trying to mount it on the roof adds the problem of rotating it. For this reason you may find you're better off sticking a non directional wifi antenna on the roof of the van - it won't have the range but if you're around wifi it will just work straight away. Of course having both is your best bet but like anything with campervans it's always a trade off. Great ebook BTW :-)

thanks for that! The motorhome wifi is extremely useful if you can't get your head around making your own or don't really want to :) but good to know of alternatives. Cheers for watching and reading our ebook!

Great video and super helpful. Would really like to see a video specifically on van security. Have you done one? What steps do you take to secure things like cameras, laptops, drones, passports? What to do with important documents and cash?Any extra locks, security measures to consider? What about insurance if you are broken into? What’s covered and what’s not? Have you heard of people having their vans stolen? Thanks for all the great videos!!

For pay monthly customers on o2 it’s free to use your normal data/mins etc. within their ‘Europe zone’ and it usually uses the strongest signal in that area - pretty good

I'm van living in the states, researching van living in Europe...what is MOT? Also, since before I acquired my own van and started living in it and traveling the US, I've seen A LOT of videos, but I can say your videos are some of the most informative and efficient, I love love love them. Thanks for the great work.

+Tentacle19 thank you so much, really happy to hear our content has been useful! An MOT is an annual requirement for vehicles in the UK, they test emissions and many other factors essential for vehicle maintenance. You cannot get tax without one, and many insurers will not insure you if you're MOT expires! I know you guys don't have them in the States which makes it a lot easier, basically if you're keeping your vehicle registered to the UK but travelling in Europe you have to return to the UK yearly to renew the MOT. Vehicles of a certain age become exempt eventually 😊

I"m surprised that you haven't mentioned the changes in law that countries are about to make when it comes to roaming. Making calls and using mobile internet is about to become a whole lot cheaper thanks to the EU in june 2017 I think it was. T-Mobile already got an interesting package (€35/month for Europe) but it's likely prices will drop even further.

Don't forget to do a search for cities who have low emission rules because more and more are introducing it. Make sure your car is either online registered or you have a sticker purchased in advance. Cars entering are digitally read by ANPR cameras and those who are not registered pay a fine between €150 to €350, depending on which city You visit. Or, even worse, if You don't pay immediately during a routine police check, Your vehicle will be impounded which is even more expensive (€250 towing plus a daily storage fee, plus the fine for not being registered) Basically, the older the vehicle, the harder it is to enter. Better check in advance..... Hmm..just noticed I've forget to subscribe.......so i just joined the club.....

I need a translation please. What is a safety triangle for a vehicle? What is the AA?
@mouseomo
7 жыл бұрын
Wendy Slowski The AA is the Automobile association -I believe there is the AAA that would be equivalent. The triangle is just a red reflective plastic triangle that you can put near your vehicle if you're broken down. Sometimes there is also one on the inside of the trunk lid so when it's open passers by can see it.

Starting this June we will embark on a vanlife roadtrip through almost literally ALL of Europe. Next week we will start converting our sprintervan and hit the road a month later. Please read our blog at www.travelingterranauts.com (there really are some crazy stories on there. E.g. I believe that if you use a wifi booster/high gain antenna it really depends on the antenna of router and if it is also powerful enough to send back the signal. Most business/restaurant wifi don't have this so I'd be able to see many hotspots but was only able to connect to a few of them. Did you also have this problem with your booster?
