+Joost H In even more fairness, there's never been any evidence to the -contrary- Industry people have always confirmed that the carts were indeed buried in the landfill along with a bunch of other unsellable games. I think the story was just such a funny anecdote that people starting believing it to be just a myth. So yeah, this is definitely an example of poor research on the creator's side. Unfortunately that's a horribly common thing when it comes to video game "journalism", which is rarely taken seriously. Another obvious example would be the big "video game crash", which is also related to the ET game. In truth, the video game market was never in any danger, and the impact of this event has been written up by fake historians.

Wrong. One important detail about L is real 2041 is that it also reads Eternal Star at an angle. And 2041 is not the year. L is real means that Luigi will be a playable character in an adventure game. 2041. Break down the numbers. 2 means February. 04 is the day in February. 1 is the year of 2001. 2/4/01. The date when the first Paper Mario game came out. Luigi as a playable character. There you go

Lavender town contained binaural beats wich caused migraines and brain swelling. Binaural beats are 2 frequencies that are nearly the same. One playing in the left ear and the other on the right. The implementation of binaural beats in pokemon was unintended. Binaural beats are usually safe to use because they have been tested they can make you smarter and do other things to your brain and are tested if they are dangerous or not.
@kingofbleh
9 жыл бұрын
+Keelan Hoogstrate Yeah, the thing about that is that it actually happened, causing three or so deaths. They had it recalled within hours of finding out and had it fixed. Some people still have the original cartridges and the binural beats actually didn't affect THAT many people. It was mainly the ones that were reported that it had a large effect on. I've actually been trying to find an original cartridge. I think it'd be an interesting thing to have.

If you go to Netflix and look up the documentary called Atari: Game Over, it will show the digging of the landfill in New Mexico and finding thousands of the ET games as well as other Atari games. The rumor was true and it took a dedicated man years to study exactly where they were buried. They asked a programmer if he could complete ET in 5 weeks to be ready for Christmas, he did. Steven Spielberg himself played the game and approved of it. The problem was the movie came out and people expected it to be a lot better and more like the movie. Millions of copies were sold, but then came the returns, almost all of them. The original CEO was sued by investors for selling all of his stock just before it crashed. A new CEO was hired but all he did was gut the company and that turned into the end of Atari. According to a lot of the original programmers who appear in the documentary, there were worse games that came out on Atari than ET, it was the timing of Christmas and the movie. All of the games except for a select few became the property of the city with the land fill who at the time said they were planning to sell them on eBay.

Here's one I've known since the first Pokémon games came out, but I did not know it was just a myth until only a few years ago: They say that mashing the A or B buttons or pressing down, or some odd combination would guarantee an easier catch when the Pokeball is thrown. Turns out it's not true, but I think the same amount of people who blow on the cartridge (also guilty as charged ^^; have tried to find this combo. There was also the infamous rumor about the "Pikablue", an urban legend that came out when in Japan the first Joto Pokémon came out, and in the US, people that got a hold of a Marrill card (it was in Japanese, so no one knew it was even called Marrill) thought that you could turn Pikachu into a water type by doing something in the Safari Zone (at least that's how they told me)

I've experimented a few times trying to catch a Pokemon. 6 or 7 times in a row, it'd break out with no buttons being pressed, but the moment I do the hold LR when the ball opens to the moment it closes, then rapidly tap A "code," it stays in, 9 times out of 10.

Oh man the Lavender Town one has grown badly out of control. Okay, record straightening time. The 'Lavender Town Tone' isn't real. It's a creepypasta invented by an online author in 2009 (I think). There has only ever been one version of Lavender Town's theme (in Generation 1 that is) and it's the one you hear. No it wasn't different in Japan, or on Pokemon Green, or on any early versions of anything. If you look up "original Lavender Town theme" and find uploads here on KZitem you're not hearing a different theme. You're hearing the same music as always, but distorted due to bad emulation. And you cite BEN as well? That's a creepypasta too. Made up by an online author, and NOT REAL. Two creepypastas in a row leads me to think this list is garbage. You didn't bother to research these at all. They don't even qualify as myths, they're just straight up fiction. Like saying Harry Potter's a myth.

Jon_BL 8, but that's not really relevant. There wasn't any other music. There were no 'tones only children could hear'. As Karatemaster notes and DD doesn't, it is a myth. False. Not real. Someone made up the whole Lavender Town Syndrome in 2009-ish; over a decade after Pokemon Green's release. Yes, it's true auditory degradation does begin in adulthood, however this isn't until people are in their 20's. Regardless of that there are many machines around that could easily pick up and identify any such tones. There is no such thing as a second Lavender Town Theme, except for the remix done in Gen 3.

For the #2 "move the truck to get Mew", your source was correct about getting him from a tournament. I am pretty sure it was either 1998 or 99, but Nintendo provided Toy's"R"Us stores copies of the original red pre-loaded with 50 Mew characters on it. I remember this event, because I ran the tournament, but afterwards, I just started trading them out to anyone that showed. I think I ended up with that copy of red somehow, and it still has a bunch a Mew s on it!

"There are still plans to excavate the area and see if they are there." The plans were to excavate the area because they KNEW they were there by the time they actually broke ground. This was a major media event, and it costs a LOT of money to excavate, and it can be a nightmare to get the permits to dig on state ground, so they weren't going to touch anything without knowing for sure those cartridges were there. Turns out, they were there. Still blows my mind.
