I'm sure the most difficult part of filming this was narrowing down your selections. So many beauties. Great vid.

Hey Jim, thanks for these great ideas! I have one I want to mention. It's an Arrow Point Holly, Ilex x 'RUTHO14'. I believe it's from Monrovia Plants collection. There was one sitting alone at Lowe's on clearance 3 years ago, and I needed something for the corner of a shed. I picked this up, and it has been absolutely FANTASTIC! I'm in 7b eastern Randolph county NC. It has grown so fast, is wonderfully hardy, soft to the touch, deep green, perfectly upright and pyramidal, has come through the last few deep-freezes with absolutely no damage whatsoever. I love this thing. It's next to impossible to find them anywhere. I would pick up 4 more if I could find them.

If you light nightlight for the winter gold you should get a jantar. Its beautiful and a narrow upright that would fit in a tight space .

I agree totally. It's a great looking variety. The summer can be a little tough on them here

Suggestion - leave the name of the plant longer on the screen. I like to make notes of them, and the name vanishes before I can write it down. Love this top ten as I am looking for more evergreens to plant.

Hi Jim. Great content as usual. I’m surprised you don’t have any evergreen Nandina’s. They are also very showy this time of year.

Did you get hit with the Polar Vortex in December? My plants look terrible and we are the same zone. I live in Arkansas. When does the zone map change. I think our zone should be 6. My plants that are zone 7 are fried. Not sure if they survived.

I am in TN zone 7. Due to the freeze I am very worried about some of my zone 7 plants such as Camelia. Do you recommend planting things hardy to zone 6 or do you still feel confident about me continuing to plant zone 7 plants.

I tried three, yes three diamond spire gardenia and none of them survived on the ground in Dallas zone 8a. 2 gets full sun almost all day and the other 10-2pm summer sun. Makes me question their zone 7-10 claim. Was also asking my local nursery about getting dragon prince cryptomeria and was told it cannot handle zone 8a.

I tried the diamond spire in southeast Alabama zone 8b both in containers (with some shade) and in the ground (in mostly sun) and I could not get them to survive 😭
