I forget who hosted it, but there was this infamous Mw2 inaugural tournament that had a rule where if a player disconnected due to bad connection, the match would be restarted. This was necessary for an online tourney because Cod was still using p2p connections back then. Well, when players caught wind of this, tons of teams started employing "dedicated throwers"': a player who would disconnect their wifi if their team started to lose, allowing them to force a match restart. This exploitation got so bad that they apparently ended up canning the tournament altogether because none of the matches were progressing.

New players showed up from all over the country and took the opportunity to befriend each other and form their own grassroots community. While the winners of sf didn't even get payed out for the tournament the community stayed strong. If it weren't for them meeting to at IGC, India may not even have a proper fighting game community in 2019

What videogames do they play at these things? Do the contestants get to practice on the game before the tournament? Also, whatever game they are playing at the tournaments, the videogame company should put it out for sale, that way all the fans could get a chance to play it *themself* at home, and not have to pay to go watch someone *else* play the videogame in these theatre (could make a lot of money this way, too)
@MaestroCasts
5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the contestants have usually practiced the games for thousands, or even tens of thousands, of hours before playing in the tournaments. The video games that are played at the tournaments have usually been out for years on sale, and in some cases are even free. The fans that pay to attend these events usually own and play the game themselves as well. They attend these events to watch the best players compete and to watch great matches that they can't recreate themselves at home.

I don't know, the World Cyber Games was so freaking horrible there should be a full video... From the generic pokemon rip off song they kept blaring, to trying to act like they where the Olympics, to computers so outdated they where from the mid 90's and could barely run games like Warcraft 3, to the delays, to their lack of casters that they needed *anybody* to do it and asked casters "Have you ever played this game? We need you to cast it!" leading to a Dota 2 caster and a Counter Strike caster observing a Warcraft 3 match. The true common theme of all these is shoddy Chinese products though..

@pillen peller The competition or organization? Because, 2018 League of Legends World Championship was the best in the sense of competition, matches and plays, in relation to organization, the best parts were the great and inspiring anthem and its music video, the production from the final was very good and the players received the same treatment as before. In other parts of it, Riot decided to reduce the budget, all the casters outside of Korea, where the tournament was hosted, they had to broadcast from their own regions, they didn't assist until the final, some weren't even sent at all, it didn't affect the great casting, but, the crowd can contribute in a good way to their casting. The 2017 WC in China overall was the best in the sense of production, all the venues, the final being played at the Beijing National Stadium a.k.a. Bird Nest, the total surprise and unexpected appearance of the Elder Dragon appearing over the stage and he whole stadium in the form of augmented reality. Although, it's not directly related to the organization, the packed crowds with their LED signs of every sizes, common during the LPL regular season, but, doing their appearance at the international stage that year, although, the big LED signs were made by them just for the tournament, the cheering and respect for all the teams from their part, the Chinese tournament hosts on the stage and also the anthem, "Legends Never Die" being great and inspiring just like the anthem, "Rise" from 2018, all of that made it even better. Oh, yeah, the new budget for 2018 also affected their decision on what venues they used for the play-in, group stage, quarterfinals and semifinals, they weren't bad, but, they were smaller than those used in previous years since 2014, mainly those for the play-in and group stage.

IGC arguably the best contender for #1 spot. from the looks of the venue itself it looks like it was staged in some dilapidated building near a slum.. not to mention the extremely shading looking organizers Add to it the fact that the players were STALKED AND ROBBED BY THUGS in their hotel room.. i would really say they were VERY LUCKY that money and valuables were the only things they lost. You see, thugs in places like THAT in India, dont tend to leave 'survivors' to tell the tale of the robbery.. So, let me tell you, they were MUCH closer to ACTUALLY ESCAPING WITH THEIR LIVES in this case, than in gaming paradise.
