Everything you said about the FE characters was true except for Dew. You forgot to mention that for however terrible his stats are, every time you initiate combat with him, he steals the gold of the opponent. His one good stat, Speed, allows him to do so while have a good evasion rate. He’s also the only person in the game who can give his gold away to other members of your army without having to marrying someone. Considering how important money is in Genealogy, this is extremely valuable, and to top it off, if you do train him, he’s quite a serviceable combat unit

exactly, and he is a great healer. His real downside is that he is somewhat squishy. To be honest, I find none of the characters in P5 to be useless. Cielo is literally the guy who breaks the Demi Fiend fight; you need to get put to sleep to evade Gaea Rage; Cielo is amazing for that. He also has a different evasion accuracy function than the other characters and will evade easily 20 times more than other party members even when his agility is lower than theirs (the case was the same when my protag had 93 agility and Cielo had 73) Edit: I guess in general Heat really should've been on this list instead. Invest Serph's points exclusively into Strength Magic and Agility (using Vit Noises to prep for Demi-Fiend) and he will hit 99 in those 3 stats; letting you easily replace Argilla and Heat with Serph alone and use the far better Gale and Cielo support duo. With Gale's moveset adjusting to the dungeon or boss as needed and Cielo locking into ultimate support with Debilitate, Salvation, Dekaja, Dekunda, and buff spells/attack abilities as needed for his last 4 moves. What you'll get is a Damage dealer who outshines the other two options; a Jack-of-all-Trades who can easily fill any needed role, and a character with an unfairly-high evasion who can support or even be made to inflict ailments (since luck makes him the best at ailment builds). Do that and be ready to have zero problems with anything without needing to use Noises to raise stats (until the second playthrough demi-fiend fight where you should use Vit Noises ((basically super easy to farm)) to also have 99 Vit for physical damage resistance)

being useful for 1 optional boss fight vs being useful for the entire duology are 2 different things by the time you get his weaknesses taken care of, everyone else is jacked up to their fullest potential, making all that preparation for him quite pointless
@shadedergu9921
4 жыл бұрын
@@martinde-serres8724 it is also important to remember how useful his lack of an element weakness is also really good. And again his uncanny ability to evade way more than anyone else with equal or higher evasion makes him great for wasting enemy turns. I honestly found Cielo much more useful throughout the game than Heat; who you could honestly just dump anywhere. And his high luck also plays into an interesting build; which is around ailments. Yes; for some reason the guy who is weak to ailments is the best at inflicting them; which is really good for curse to mudo spamming; or even better inflicting ailments from spells such as freezing enemies. It is also rare to find a boss he is not affective against; especially since physical or magical attacks that can inflict ailments don't count as ailment attacks like Ailment exclusive moves do. Cielo is the only character who I have not seen get muted or turned to stone by those pesky additional effect physical attacks since they count as physical attacks and luck is the primary ailment resistance stat. Meaning that sub bosses and late-game enemies who prefer to use heavy physical attacks with a side of ailment will actually hit everyone but Cielo with an ailment (or even the attack itself). That and the Hunger move doesn't count as an ailment move either; meaning that any hunger boss will almost never hit Cielo with hunger. My Party throughout both DDS games was Serph, Gale, and Cielo BTW, and I had zero issues; breezing through every boss and optional boss (only actually having issues with the demi-fiend). Just spend 1 point each Serph level into Strength, Magic, and Agility and funnel Vit Noises into him (for Demi-Fiend), adjust Gale's moveset to whatever fits the current boss or dungeon most, and have Cielo build around full support with Debilitate, Salvation, Dekaja, Dekunda, and any of the buff skills you deem necessary. Strengths and weaknesses are also a weird thing to focus on though; cause they only actually factor in for bosses in the endgame/second playthrough. Cielo never left my party after he joined in 1 and I never had an issue with him getting an ailment; especially when Gale, Argilla, and Heat would get turned to stone or muted all the time from those party-striking physical attacks with secondary ailments while Cielo went untouched. But really; when everyone can get null attack and learn every ability with 99 in every stat; the only things that actually set characters apart are if they use unique calculation functions in combat or bosses who ignore null attack (Demi-Fiend). Of which Cielo has the highest evasion by far of any party member (when when his agility is below other party members due to noises) and his weakness is actually beneficial the one time it actually matters; since other times it would matter (hunger) it doesn't actually matter due to the attack itself not counting as an ailment attack so his higher evasion and high resistances kick in and make him the least-likely to get it. I understand how some people would be afraid of using him due to the *few* ailment attacks in the midgame granting enemies an extra turn with Cielo in your party, but it isn't anything compared to how garbage Heat is after you get Gale; unlike Cielo Magic destroys him and he gets any ailment that even passes by him, and with how many physical enemies use that stone secondary physical attack in the later game heat's higher vit and strength mean nothing when he gets turned to stone and shattered immediately.

The analysis on Morgana is super off base. Ann and Makoto are not primarily healers, they are your fire and nuke attackers respectively and simply do not have the SP to engage in super prolonged healing without resorting to SP items. Morgana being the wind user aside in a game where *a lot* of enemies have wind weakness, Morgana not only has an unnaturally large SP pool (and there is equipment later in the game to increase this further), but he gets access to the revive spells and Salvation, the latter of which you’ll need when bosses start throwing ailments everywhere. Even miracle punches start being your only go to in order to knock down annoying strong Shadows without weaknesses I mean, you *can* have Ann or Makoto be your healers, but that’s not where their main talents are; they’re about buffing/debuffing and throwing hard hitting attack spells (and Ann eventually falls off hard in that respect too in comparison with Makoto) and freeing up Joker to do more important things (like using Yoshitsune). This certainly doesn’t make Morgana useless
@arieldominguez2905

Raptor Jesus The Claiomh Solas that you can create by using Mother Harlot gives Morgana +50 extra SP. I don’t believe Makoto has any equivalent weapon and with how powerful the Judge gun is for her stats, she’s going to be much more useful attacking with spells than healing. Plus, Morgana's trait is going to ensure that you're able to use weaker heals to heal to full health or substantially close to it and conserve SP, and this can be the difference between surviving the next round or getting one-shot by having a few HP sly of the next attack.

Cielo useless? Lol nope First, his agility is great, he dodges a lot. Second, even if he's weak to ailments, you can get abilities to null ailments. Yes that applies to all elements but while they just don't leave advantage on anyone, null ailments make enemies lose turn icons and stay in disadvantage, and while you start with specific ailment nulls, you can just adjust your null abilities, for example if a dungeon has a lot of enemies who cast charm, you can just use "null charm" and there's nothing to fear. In addition, the null ailment abilities come before than elemental resist, meaning that while the rest have to rely on casting void/drain, Cielo can already null some ailments. I won't necessarily say she's useless, but I do have a gripe with a certain character. Alice Elliot from Shadow Hearts. As your party's healer, she should be considered top tier and play an integral role in your party. Except... she doesn't learn her group healing spell until level freaking 35. By then, you should already have Baldo, who comes with a group healing spell. So your main damage dealer, who should be focus on kicking ass, has to fuse into Baldo to be the healer. Leaving your third character (which should really be Keith) as pretty much your only damage dealer. And yes, you HAVE to have the group healing spell because even regular monsters can massively damage your entire party. She can throw around defense spells and healing items, but honestly... she's kind of a paperweight until she reaches level 35. This is a case where the difficulty you play on drastically transforms the perception of the character. Morgana is bad on normal because you barely need to heal. On hard mode, where you need to AoE heal every turn basically, morgana is auto-include for most of the game. Imagine playing through the midgame on hard mode without having Morgana's mediarama. You would need to make joker a healbot, and making joker a healbot is a terrible idea when you can just have morgana be the healbot, and do joker things with joker.
@MrSwaggington

@@Relisoc that doesn't really make much scene since on Merciless, you can't even afford to let enemies live long enough to heal your own party. By the time Morgana gets a party heal on a low level run, you are alright mostly through the hardest dungeon on the difficulty. Once you get Makoto into the mix, morgana doesn't do a lot since there isn't a lot of enemies weak to force/wind damage. As for the Ann and Makoto parts, while I will coincide that both can be more bulky than Mona due to them actually wearing armor for humans whereas Mona is stuck with armor for cats, when it comes to actual healing, Ann only learns spells that heal a SINGLE ally while Makoto doesn't learn Salvation and NEITHER of them can learn Samarecarm so don't get me started on that whole "learns the exact same spells as Morgana" crap!!!

Bruh like super optimal P5/R party comp has you running Morgana and typically Yusuke as well. Sure the game is versatile enough that you can basically run whatever, but there's ONE character that's set up as a primary healer and that's Morgana. You get him early, he has full party heals, full health revival, can cure all statuses and has access to wind and Miracle Punch for dealing with late game enemies (And even more insane version of it in R as well). You can have other characters as healers which is what your third and final slot usually ends up being (Makoto or Ann simply for their utility as both support and offensive characters when need be, but usually Makoto due to her party defense buff), but no one can heal as effectively as Morgana. Honestly he's more of the RPG trope of meh character that's absolutely necessary because they're the only thing keeping you alive. Yusuke on the other hand is hands down the absolute best offensive unit in the game (Besides a properly set up Joker). Sure there can be arguments made for Ryuji, and I personally prefer using him because his all out charge DPS style is my thing but Yusuke just tops him in every other way. Attack, Utility, Survivability. After the release of R you can't even argue it once Yusuke gets his final skill which literally just Heat Risers YOUR ENTIRE TEAM. Like WHAT!? Yusuke is so absurd it's ridiculous. In conclusion, Joker, Morgana, Yusuke (Or Ryuji if you're bold), Makoto is like the most optimal party build you can run in P5 and R doesn't really change that with Akechi or Yoshizawa.

Morgana is my de facto healer on my party. What kind of armor do you give him that makes him squishy? You also neglected to mention that Mona has the Sukunda skill which lowers enemy Agility, making it less likely for their attacks to hit you. The problem with Morgana is that he has dismissing returns on all of his niches. Status effects, buffs, and debuffs are easier to apply/work around/get rid of in P5. Salvation is a more costly version of Diarahan and ailments can be self healed easily. Makoto outclasses Morgana because of this because she has a defense buff (evasion in P5 is less reliable than defense), has betting offensive and defensive states while having an end game weapon that gives her plus 10 in every state. So...yeah.

My (dis)honorable mentions: •Black Mage in Final Fantasy I -- his Flare spell is nowhere as powerful as the physical attacks from the Monk, Knight, or any character wielding the Masamune. I prefer the Red Mage instead; he has the Black Mage's ability room-clear with ****2 and ****3 spells, but he can act as a back-up healer and has good fighting ability. •Red XIII and Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII -- their strongest Limit Breaks can only hit once and can't go past the 9999 HP mark. Yes, I tend to prefer characters whose final Limit Breaks can hit multiple times, like Tifa, Cloud, Cid and Barret. Also Cait Sith -- I don't want a character whose Limit Break can kill my whole party. •Merchant in Dragon Quest III. Aside from that one town side-quest, I don't see much of a point in using this class. •Fighter and Thief in Wizardry. What's the whole point? Promote them to a Paladin/Samurai and Ninja as soon as you can. •Katrina the Shepherd in Ultima IV -- no access to magic, can use only low-level melee weapons and armor, and her only ranged weapon is the Sling. •Shu in Arc the Lad II -- weak weapons and weak attack magic. Also Odon -- no magic and can only use a sword (which enemies can easily evade and counter in higher levels). •Quistis in Final Fantasy VIII -- for basically the same reason as Kimahri in FFX.

Dew being useless? Hahahahahahahaha he must have never tried to get an full A rank in fe 4. Thieves are essential to getting you money in order to move your items around to different units. Also due to the fact he can get a lot of money and give it to anyone it can get other characters the paragon band which is crucial for the exp rank. His utility is unmatched in the first half of the game. Sothe in path of radiance is bad I agree, however he is meant as a replacement for Volke if he dies. Which I played the Japanese maniac mode on an iron man run and I used him. He's okay at what he does and he doesn't die in one hit. The archers I can't really defend. Wendy is salvageable but takes a lot of work so I'll agree with you there. Morgana is a way better healer and gets salvation and a full revive. He also gets the skill to revive an ally to full which saves on balm of life. He also has the highest sp reserve of any party member not counting a maxed out Joker but no one can compare to mc in persona games.

Funnily enough I think Dew is one of the best units in fe4. I'm not going to deny that his combat sucks, but stealing money is so useful since everyone has their own funds. You can just send Dew off collecting villages while Sigurd and friends go fight armies. With the money he steals Dew can help people get the resources they need for example: giving Lachasis the money for the paragon ring so she can promote by chapter three, helps give Sylvia the leg ring, Making sure Ethlyn has enough gold for the pursuit band and other expensive items that Leif needs, or using the money to make it easier for your party to pass around the paragon band in the arena. With enough planning Dew makes the game so much easier and there really isn't anyone else in your party that can do his job. Besides Sylvia he's the best foot unit in the game and his contributions put him ahead of a lot of the mounted units in my book.

So, on Morgana, there are ways to make him still useful, even when you get Makoto. He's still got group heal skills even when you have Makoto, her Mediarama is at level 41 while his is level 34, assuming you've finished Mishima's confidant if you kept him as back up, or actively used him in the front lines. Plus, if we're taking weapons into account, just itemize Mother Harlot and give Morgana the Claimoh Solais for +50 SP, which does require a maxed out Empress link and maybe max Strength arcana, depending on how much you grind, or if you're on new game plus. Along with that, Ann's designed to be your offensive Mage, given her higher magic stat, while Makoto's essentially a multitool, considering she's got phys, nuke, and healing spells, and Morgana gains salvation. He's not a crappy unit, just a squishy Mage. He is a frustrating character though, I ain't going that far to defend him.

I really like this analysis. My dislike of his character aside -- purely based on utility -- Morgana was clearly designed to be Teddie's spiritual battle successor and seemed to suffer from a lot of the same flaws that held Teddie back from being top tier. Teddie could out-cast Chie's bufus and Yukiko's healing, but he was so squishy even at higher levels that it was hard to use him constructively. Morgana has solid offensive and healing spells, but I'm always reluctant to put him in knowing that literally anyone else on the team can take twice the damage without me having to babysit them. If they're going to make a mage THAT squishy, it would've been nice to have some sort of Cover gambit/battle mechanic ala FF or Octopath to be able to cover his slack, instead of being forced to burn through SP Recarming him through every boss battle. My Joker ended up becoming the group's main healer just so I wouldn't have to deal with it.

Leon from Final Fantasy II. By the time you get him so late game, the rest of you party members are leagues beyond him in stats. Especially if you grinded your party's stats and weapon levels for even just a hour. Then, if you try to get him upto speed, due to the leveling system of FF2, the rest of your team also keeps getting stronger making it so that the gap never truly closes. In the end, you have two choices: 1) Don't bother leveling Leon and have three well leveled party members and one wuss. OR 2) Grind up stats and end up with one well leveled character and three overpowered behemoths that steamroll everything.

The only enemies that could give you trouble, off the top of my head, are Rangda and Fafnir, maybe Melchizedek, which Morgana would be stopped by too. idk if you mean palaces 6-7, 7-8, or 8-9, but you can just get yoshitsune by 9 too for insane damage and common crits. plus if you are talking about royal technicals are amazing

Always nice to see a new Party member video from you whether its best or worst but I gotta disagree with Morgana. While I hate morgana's character as much as the next guy I wouldn't really call him bad gameplay wise. He's outclassed by Makoto but he does still bring strong healing, wind magic and his crit physical attack can be helpful especially against tough later game demons without exploitable weaknesses. And in general the thing I love about 5 over 3 and 4 is being able to switch in party members when I needed them so he like everyone in my party found regular use throughout the game which I love the feeling in a game of having my whole squad be useful. His Salvation skill is also a godsend against the new fantastic royal final boss (not spoiling for people who haven't had a chance to play yet) who can drag out the fight with status ailments. Although in this instance you can also have Joker with the skill too but I didn't lol. Id put him at the bottom of a p5 party member list myself but that's less being a bad party member and more being the least good of a great bunch.

I just copy that comment I wrote earlier here in: Here comes my opinion on Morgana. I have not played the Royal yet and I always play on hard mode without inheriting clear data. Joker aside Ann and Morgana are my best partymembers. Morganas low defence was always completly unnoticable to me. Probably becuse of Ann. She is great at keeping damage low fore the entire Party. Morgana lerns more powerful healing skillsd earlier then Makotto. Until after the 4th dungeon he is the best healer. Then Makotto learns Mediarama but in the mini boss fights and the actual boss fight wind magic rocks pretty hard so Morgana comes out on top. Then Makotto learns here Groupe defence buff. In the 6th dungeon she is better. But at the beginning of the 7th dungeon I got all I need to turn Morgana in to a crit god and he learns that Groupe full heal skill. So fore the 7th dungeon I use them both. Makotto heals, Morgana kicks ass. Fore the bosses I choose the better healer over the defence buff although I understand if people decide otherwise. Bringing them both is not a bad idea either. After the 7th dungeon I always fight the twin. My party is usually around level 65. Level 64 on the save file I use to replay that fight. I need that defence buff but Makotto can not handle both healing and buffing so I bring them both. Morganas speed debuff is very helpful as well. And well Ann is the 3rd Partymember. After the super boss the game is basicly over and the rest is a formality. So yeah in my experience Morgana rocks pretty hard from the begining of the game all the way to the twins while Makotto has a few shining moments most of them alongside Morgana. The 6th dungeon really is the only place where Makotto really outperformed Morgana. Atleast in my experience. I once started merciless but I dont like the changes. If the enemies die so easily from tripple damage to weakspots it screws with negotiation and I get to do less All out attacks and I love those. Not my cup of tea. On the save file I use to refight the twin (I love that boss fight) I once changed the dificulty to merciless fore that one fight. It was a little harder but I still won.

Cielo isn't that bad. As long as you have status ailment curing items and put him last in formation he won't mess things up too bad. Plus, agility is a nice stat for a healer. It means they're more likely to dodge hits. He may be worse in the first game, I didn't end up using him there, but in the second he's essential. That's not because he's amazing though, it's because you don't have much control over who's in your party. Overall he's not the best, but he does well as a healer. Just have void ailments

Sophia gets in at about the middle but its still a terrible join time for considering she gets ONE SHOT by everything in the chapter she joins and it is Fog of War so you can't actually see anything.

Slight correction about Kiwi, Shining Force 2 doesn’t have a magic defense stat magic does set damage. So to make him strong against physical but weak to magic they gave high defense but absurdly low Hp for a “tank.” But having low Hp makes him not that good at taking physical hits either...

Morgana is squishy, indeed, and mostly because of his crappy array of useable armours - while there are many extremely great craftable unisex or male armours the same cannot be said for the cat, unfortunately. And he is definitely my party member who dies the most often by a landslide. He still got his uses though; his heal-skill boost midgame before the -ran skills is quite useful and since Morgana is very fast he can be a great support character, either healing his teammates or throwing around boosting/debilitating items if needed, possibly using the Crystal rings or the jazz club to widen his potential. I beat the December boss with a party of Ann, Ryuji and Morgana and Morgana throwing around the "charge" and "Concentrate" items made this fight extremely easy, either healing or boosting Ann/Ryuji so that they could get off boosted attack every turn instead of every two turns.

I disagree hard with Morgana. Ähm I have not played the Royal and I always play on hard mode new game plus but without inheriting clear data so no extra stuff from past playthroughs. Joker aside he is my best praty member only rivaled by Ann. His low defence was always completly unnoticable to me which I think is becuse I use Ann a lot. She is great at keeping damage low fore the entire party. Morgana learns more powerful healing skills earlier then Makotto. Fore the first 4 dungeons he is straight up the better healer. After that Makotto catches up with Mediarama but in the 5th dungeon in the minibosses and in the actualk boss fight his wind magic rocks pretty hard- In the 6th dungeon Makotto is better. At the beginning at the 7th dungeon I got everything I need to turn Morgana in to a crit good and he learns the full groupe healing skill. After the 7th dungeon I fight the Twins and my party is usually around level 65. I need Makottos defence buff but she can not handle both healing and buffing on there own so I bring them both. Morgana also helps with his speed debuff which makes sure Jokers attacks dont miss. After the twins the game basicly over and the rest is formality.

I'm not David but I have opinions too ! I never used Lei, but I guess she'd be somewhere around Samo and Pogo. Combat : 9 - Masaru : low damage and his ultimate tech takes too long and not so strong. Good for debuffs but the Kung Fu can do it too. High HP doesn't make him useful. 8 - Akira : Mostly there for Single Target heals, his Images are a bit slow but can debuff. 6-Samo : Mostly a tank, no real useful tech beside his last one which IS good. Better than Masaru. 5-Pogo : I mostly used his last tech (huge damage but debuffs him) and his jump. The Vine can stun some bosses ! Poor AoE. Good tank. 4-Yun : Good final tech for damage, and as a un-counterable AoE and potent self healing. low HP though. Can debuff. 3-Cube : Mostly a healbot but amazing at it, his tech do little damage. Potentially max HP, and can Upgrade and debuff a bit. 2-Oboromaru : If he is your main, you run twice as fast. Can one hit kill with petrification and has good AoE attacks. 1- Sunset Kid : His last 2 techs cover a big area and seems to ignore defense. Good singletarget damage. That's all he needs. Story : 9-Present : Masaru wants to be strongest. Current strongest is mean. Some oponnents have a bit of personality ? 8-Final : Akira's dungeon has some interesting dialogs. I don't like "Incarnations of pure evil" villains but this one had "some" foreshadowing unlike say Necron. Playing as Oersted in interesting I guess ? 7-Kung-Fu : Extremely stereotypical characters with no depth, and little humour. Bad guys seem to come from nowhere. 6-Bakumatsu : Quite simple, but it gets more interesting if you know the characters are actual historic figures. 5-Prehistoric : The plot is very minimalistic, but some characters are pretty funny. Mostly relies on humour. 4-Old West : Extremely short, but the dialogs are good. I don't rate on length. 3-Medieval : Oersted's adventure starts as a cliché fest, then gets interesting... Mostly uninteresting characters though. 2-Sci-Fi : That's what the chapter is exclusively about. Still a Alien ripoff. Characters can be a bit too stupid. 1-Near Future : The characters are actually quite likeable ! The plot is a bit strange/animé but it works. Gameplay : 9-Old West : I don't like to be timed, and there is only one real fight (which is FUN is you don't lay any trap). 8-Present : Only one strategy : Debuff then quick attacks. Run away and taunt when needed. 7-Near Future : Few interesting fights, a boss can self-destruct. Little variety among enemies. Crafting is a pain. 6-Kung-Fu : for the boss rush at the end. 5-Prehistoric : Quite easy and linear. Chasing the King Mamoth is annoying and beating him requires Luck/grinding. I wish Pogo kept his sense of smell in the last chapter. 4-Sci-Fi : running around is not that fun, but the Arcade game has some challenging fights ! 3-Medieval : The boss fights are pretty good. 2-Final : Lots of exploration, varied challenges and secrets, but RANDOM ENCOUNTERS :( 1-Bakumatsu : Probably my favourite dungeon in any single game ! A lot of fun fights (bosses, traps...) and freedom. Yeah I don't really like anything about Masaru. I usually love Blue Mages but you only really use the two techs learned from the old man.

Edit: Im surprised you didn’t mention Morgana’s attitude towards the party. This is more of a story complaint for Morgana then actual gameplay purposes. Minor spoilers. A thing that really bothers me about Mona is how Mona treats Ryuji like an idiot. Mona constantly parades Ryuji being ignorant about the meta verse when Mona is just as bad at navigating. It’s even worst when Mona leaves the party, the game portrays Ryuji being at fault for having Mona leave in the first place.

THANK. YOU. Morgana relentlessly craps all over Ryuji the entire game while Ryuji is just trying to live his best life. The first time Ryuji actually dishes it back, Morgana throws a tantrum and runs away, and the entire party piles in on Ryuji for 'being mean' to him. I wished there was an option in the game to either A) take Ryuji's side when the entire team is gaslighting him or B) take Ryuji's side AND not recruit Morgana back.

@@lanceran8964 - For me it's a matter of proportion and power disparity. Morgana acts as the de facto leader of the group until Joker finds his legs, mostly because they're all dependent on him at first for information. Later on that dynamic changes, but for months at a time, Morgana not only holds all the cards, he uses his position of power to constantly one-up Ryuji and belittle him for asking legitimate questions. Ryuji was permanently injured by Kamoshida but gets NONE of the care and consideration that Ann does. His circumstances are used for comic relief instead of sympathy. It's gross. Morgana constantly harping on him was just the cherry on top of that crap sandwich. You're not wrong about Ryuji taking jabs at him, but by that time I was so relieved that SOMEONE was sticking it to Morgana that I couldn't even find it within myself to feel sorry for him. Cat had it coming.

@@Chaeley Valid points and I personally hate the scene post palace 7 Ryuji just risked his life for them and what do they do. Knock him out and leave him by a street light. That seriously isn't ok. Morgana is fine after Okumara though he still bullies ryuji tbh but. it is a lot and I mean a lot less frequent and it could honestly be out of friendship and sarcasam then actuall rude intent. Ryuji is a solid character tbh I prefer Junpei from P3 but Ryuji is still solid. @@lanceran8964 - I can get behind this. I feel like in general that they treated character development with more respect back in the Persona 3 days. Junpei was the designated comic relief, but he got so many serious character-building moments that he'd mostly shed the buttmonkey trope by the end. I think most important was that the group actually gave him props for having grown and changed, whereas Ryuji -- no matter how hard he tries and how many obstacles he overcomes -- is still treated with indifference or even outright rejection and cruelty. It's not cute. I loved the game just fine, but I had a number of problems with it, and the game's treatment of Ryuji was one of them.

how is Morgana useless? he's the only one in your party that learns revival magic, he has access to both single target, and multi target healing, when Ann can only do single. he has a bigger mana pool than Makoto, making him a more efficient healer, he learns salvation which is extremely useful in late game, as it fully heals you, as well as removes all status effects, and unless you want to run Haru with Amrita/Amrita shower (whom you don't get until very late in the game), make your MC your healbot, or spend numerous turns using items, he's the only one who can cure dizzy, forget, sleep, and hunger. he also has lucky punch/miracle punch, which makes him one of the better characters to use to start Baton Passes, powering up for a bigger hit on someone else, especially if you pass to a character with a move that deals additional damage after a baton pass or on a downed foe. he's also no slouch when it comes to damage, having the second highest magic stat in the game. His endurance might be low, but that doesn't matter if you have someone casting def-up magic (as you should), and getting him proper armour, which is easy to get. honestly? I think you just have a hate-boner for the "healer" archetype

Alright, so I saw all 6 parts, here are my picks to add to this: 1) FFT Meliadoul. You put Rafa and Malak on one of those lists, but they could at least be used normaly. She couldn't. Her unique job class only worked if the enemy had equipement on, meaning that she could do a grand total of zero damage to monsters, that didn't use equipement. Even Square realised this goof, and fixed it in the PSP remake. 2) FF8 Selphie. She is just there to pad out the roster, that's it. She is the typical 'japanese school girl' trope. She sucks in battle and her random ass crappy limits are dung. The only good thing about her is 'The End' but even that feels and looks cheap. 3) BoF3 Gaar. You had Nina on one of those lists, but how about Gaar? In the story he is the champion and a total badass, but once he joins... he is kinda crap. His mana poll is non-existant and his special skills do all of two things: jack and shit. Sure if you get him under the right masters he can be ok, but so can anyone. He is easily outclassed by at least two other chars, namely Rei and Peco, so who needs him? 4) A whole bunch of Valkyrie Profile 1 and 2 characters, but my pick is: Llewelyn. He is not that bad, but to get the good ending you HAVE to send him up to valhalla, meaning you don't even get to use him in your main party, even if you wanted. Talk about dead weight....

Ironically, Cielo does come into use with the hardest optional boss. Dew isn't really meant to be a fighter. He is there to essentially nab some gold from the enemies. Arguably, he was handled as a utility character better than FE9 Sothe. Especially since it is sometimes better to let a bandit destroy the village and then nab the gold from the bandit afterwards. As for archers; they are pretty darn powerful in Shadows of Valentia and Three Houses (though Takumi in Fates is kinda ridiculous). Hopefully, the improvements made to the class can carry over to the GBA remakes. That way, people can stop trash talking Will and Rebecca; especially since they would likely retain the 3x effective damage. Unlike what happened when the series first got localized.

Linny Barilar from Front Mission 3 joins fairly late into Emma's campaign. As a character, he comes from a rather wealthy farming family and is trying to market his methane-powered wanzer, so he forces himself into your party in the hopes of showing it off in combat. Using animal waste to power a giant mech does not go unnoticed by the other characters. He contributes almost nothing of any importance to the story immediately after he joins-- he just forces his way into your party and that's it. In terms of combat, Front Mission 3 allows all characters some degree of balance by determining your skills based on the equipment your mech is using, and you can become more proficient in certain weapon types the more you use them. Every other character starts off with some proficiency in one or more types of weapons. Linny starts off with a C-rank proficiency in using missile launchers, (which is the lowest skill rank next to absolute nothing), and has no other skills to speak. Missile Launchers are long range weapons and cannot be used on any enemies less than 3 tiles away from you. This means that he's absolutely useless in any form of close combat unless you go out of your way to make him strong with another weapon type. Since this is a strategy RPG, having him fill out a slot on your party in combat is better than nothing, (and there are some missions where you will have to use him sooner or later just to fill out the party), but everyone else in the game will already just be so much better than him.

@coldspicy1344

{MILD SPOILERS FOR P5 AND P5R} I could argue that Morgana isn't as useless in battle for the simple fact of the bullshit of Miracle Punch. Morgana is essentially made to be a healer and relies more on luck and speed which explains his lackluster endurance and varying healing skills and is also the first one to learn Samarecarm other than Akechi and also manages to be somewhat more useful in P5R where he learns Salvation after obtaining Diego. He's also meant to play off Yusuke and anybody using ice skills as Freezing an enemy removes any type of Phys resistance in turn for technical damage allowing Miracle Punch/Rush to do its thing. It also helps Yusuke get a Baton Pass to do significantly more damage with the physical moves that increase in power after a Baton Pass to finish off a battle. Although I admit that this is very situational it shows that each character is useful in their own way but Haru's is also a great alternative as she can exploit ailments, use stuff like Amrita Shower, has One-Shot Kill, and has reflecting barrier moves which can cheese some enemies. Her only flaw is her lack of healing skills like Morgana so I always use Mona occasionally when Haru isn't cutting it in that part of the dungeon.
@yetravellingsonc8372

Morgana in P5 was terrible, but for all intents and purposes he actually carries his Weight in Strikers. Basically, he still retains his role of Healer. He also loses any Phys skills he had in the OG (All of which are reworked into his combo finishers), and focuses primarily on Wind skills for DPS. HOWEVER, technical hits are the easiest way to deal max DPS in this game. And Cat over here gets Technical Adept, which boosts technical damage decently. So bring a character to Dizzy or Burn the enemies (So basically Ann or any of Joker's Personas with Nocturnal Flash), and use Morgana's upgraded Car lunge or his C4 combo and you can tear through half the game. He also has Salvation, which is kinda meh in base game but in Merciless is a godsend if you can keep him alive long enough to cast it, which is easier because you can dodge most attacks.

Not a JRPG, but I would like to nominate Bao-Dur, Mical the Disciple, and GO-TO from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords. Bao-Dur: You get him once you get into the Surface on Telos and you are forced to use him during that portion as well as (In the Restore Content Mod) some fights on Nar Shadaa later on with Atton and a 3rd member of your choosing. His initial class is Tech Specialist, which makes him a Great Skill Monkey and he also has a prosthetic arm that can let him disrupt enemy shields and force fields that block access to other areas. However his feat progression and health is poor, and he cannot wear Heavy Armor, making him squishy for a melee unit since he has 14 strength and 10 Dexterity, meaning he's meh with blasters. He can be converted to a Jedi Guardian later on if you max out his influence, however it will gimp him the amount of Skill Points he gains leveling up and he cannot equip Jedi Robes, which means he cannot use certain force powers like Force Speed. Overall Bao-Dur's a subpar combatnant that you are forced to use at certain points and Handmaiden would make a better Jedi Guardian than Bao if you manage to convert her (Or make your Exile a Guardian/Weapon Master/Maruader). Disciple: He is a gender exclusive party member that Female Exiles can recruit down in the Jedi Enclaves on Dantooine. He has the same starting stats as the Handmaiden (Who Male Exiles get earlier after leaving Telos). Unlike Handmaiden, he converts into a Jedi Consular instead of Guardian, which is more focused on using Force powers than Melee Combat. Mical has 10 Wisdom meaning his force abilities won't be all that potent without boosting that stat and Consular has slow feat progression, meaning you might have to spends levels on his Soldier class before converting him. And even then you get a Consular named Kreia much earlier in the game and she has pretty good stats (And also if you made your Exile a Consular). He also cannot teach FemExile Battle Precognition (Adds Wisdom Modifier to Defense) that Handmaiden could with MaleExile. GO-TO: You get this Droid after completing the Nar Shadaa storyline. However GO-TO doesn't bring anything new to the table that other party members you get earlier can. You have T3M4 and Bao Dur as Skill Monkey, Mira (Who you can get if your light sided) has Point Guard that lets the party walk over minds while the player controls Mira, Other characters like Kreia can stealth without a stealth generator (And Stealth sucks in this game), and Control Droid barely has any use since you rarely get to fight much droid units by the time you get GO-TO.
