Iron Leaves is really great in double battles. By pairing it up with a Electro Surge Pokemon, it starts the battle with 886(!) Speed and thanks to Momentum thats also 886 attack. And because of Blademaster all of its Sword-moves are boosted and hit both opponents. Also Psyblade becomes 120 BP in Terrain. This thing can rip teams apart, with only very little support.

How they work in practice: Iron Treads- Watch your step is an absolutely stupid ability, since being able to set up 2 layers of spikes on ENTRY is utterly gamebreaking in terms of utility. But putting it on a Mon that is immune to passive damage, a great stat spread including hard hitting moves like mega launcher mountain chunk, and utility moves like rapid spin, knock off and u-turn…. Yeah it’s definitely on par with great tusk now due to all of that, tbh probably even surpassing it. Iron Bundle: The absurdly strong and fast mon got even stronger now. Impulse alone gives it something huge, as now bundle has a new weapon: a power boosting option: Since impulse makes all non contact moves go by their speed stat, agility essentially becomes a drawback-less shell smash, so after just one boost it can sweep with it’s unresisted type combo with even more ease. The shell smash aspect is even more impactful if you choose to run air cutter in the last slot (physical flying move with 70 bp) since because of it not being a contact move, it is going off of the boosted speed stat as well, and gives it an option to brute force it’s way past special walls like blissey. Though it can also go raw power and run snow warning+blizzard, which also bolster’s bundle’s physical bulk even more. Definitely is going to stay in Ubers, and it doesn’t even have it’s full move set yet (none of the paradox mons, or Gen 9 as a whole for that matter, have their full move set, for instance none of them have hidden power) Iron Hands: Iron Hands getting iron fist is just as helpful as it is a perfect fit for it logically. Now this Mon who already hits extremely hard is hitting even harder while also having crucial moves that fix some of its problems, such as plasma fists for actually good electric stab and Mach punch for prio. Now it can actually make its access to belly drum work in addition to all of the above helping out its usual tank sets. Iron Jugulis: Hydreigon already had an amazing kit: mega launcher and beast boost as options for abilities and 3 hit multi headed. Jugulis has all of that and now even more It’s faster at 108 which means it can abuse the inflated flinch rate from the far more likely air slash more than hydra ever could with dark Pulse. Rapid response especially also gives him defensive utility as a revenge killer alongside the good speed, and also helps out scarf hubris sets as the burst in speed and power can help get the snowball rolling. Meanwhile non scarf sets, hubris and mega launcher alike, can easily become out of hand stall breakers with the inflated flinch from air slash and even an inflated bleed rate from black magic, giving walls a hard time despite it’s lack of nasty plot. Iron Moth: This is going to Ubers…. Quiver Dance, while making logical sense, was definitely left off it in vanilla for a reason, and now it not only has that, but it takes 20% less from special moves and gets a free +1 in special attack due to majestic moth. But the thing that breaks it is the ability selection: Corrosion, while seemingly useless at first, lets it utterly ruin heatran as a check, and also makes pivoting around poison stab out of the question, molten down makes rocks useless in stopping it, since fire stab now shreds them to ribbons, and shield dust cancels out rocks damage without it having to run boots, freeing up it’s item slot instead of having to run boots. All of these abilities, especially corrosion and molten down, have extremely different counters, and moth can feign shield dust by running boots, or even potentially Vice versa, running something like a gem to ruin checks, and it works since opponents HAVE to respect corrosion and molten down even more. It likely would just get even worse once it actually gets moves like hidden power: it now has an anti heatran tool even when it’s running molded down, making it equal to corrosion variants running energy ball to compensate for their weaknesses. Iron Thorns: This Mon is just sad They tried to make a Mon good at both offense and defense, but the problem is that they half completed the kit for either, making it impractical on both ends. Defensively it doesn’t really work since even with the defensive support from solid rock, electric/rock is NOT a good type defensively and gets worn down quickly by passive damage. Offensively it is actually better but it still is bad. Fearmonger and light metal actually are good in helping it out in this regard, the latter especially with thorn’s access to sd, but the problem with that is simple: Nothing in its abilities boost its power further. In a meta as powercrept as ER, you definitely need abilities that either boost your power further or help you get past checks, raw stats most of the time aren’t enough. Thorns doesn’t have any of that, which is especially bad for it since it has a stab type with a hard type wall in ground. Weak ice punches aren’t going to be enough to break through them. Iron Valiant: Just… why Valiant is already crazy fast and strong with a cornucopia of move to choose from on both sides. So what is the buff they give it? Why not fixing it’s main issue if no good physical fairy stab beyond spirit break by giving it equinox fleur cannon, which also gets boosted by long reach. And how about we also give it unnerfed disguise, like the Mon that should NOT be given a free turn getting a guarenteed free turn is the BEST idea. Spoiler alert, this thing is going STRAIGHT to Ubers without contest alongside its counterpart roaring moon. Iron Leaves: This Mon is just odd. The decision to make him completely linked to electric terrain is… interesting to say the least. But in practice at a glance it does work: the power alongside the speed boost from both quark drive and surger surfer does make it immediately threatening to compensate for the loss of sd, and blademaster provides further power to it’s keen edge based movepool. 2 Tiny problems however: A. It competes VERY heavily with alolan raichu, what with them being both psychic type electric terrain abusers, except raichu can set up it’s own electric terrain and boost it’s power further with nasty plot, albeit leaves can provide it’s own value in jt’s higher speed and more immediate threat level. There is also is the TINY problem that… uh……. Electric terrain itself is getting completely AXED. Alolan raichu itself has been controversial in ou, but now in addition to alolan raichu, there is a buffed tapu koko and ground shock mons like eleki and Sandy shocks with rising voltage’s so strong they shred through resists with ease, and on top of all of that terrain now lasts 8 turns by DEFAULT, so this terror lasts for an absurdly long time. Since leaves is directly linked to e terrain due to non having any value outside of it (sd is useless due to momentum and it doesn’t even get agility), the moment e terrain inevitably leaves, leave’s viability is going with it. Iron Boulder: Definitely the best overall of the paradox swords. No bells, no whistles, it is simple Boulder with the keen edge focused kit it’s always wanted, and even some of the benefits from terrakion, mainly solid rock to make boosting easier. Besides that, it simply does iron Boulder things: pick between its amazing options and then go to town with sd sets. Iron Crown: This Mon is unfinished. By definition it is the worst of the three, but considering its kit is DEFINITELY unfinished, I don’t think it’s fair to give them that title directly. The main reason for their unfinished nature? Mystic blades Mystic blades is supposed to be a keen edge version of power fists: boosts keen edge moves by 30% and makes them hit special defense, but the thing is that they still are classified as physical moves. I don’t think I need to explain why iron crown getting this ability is a mistake. Iron Exo: The thing is also has an unfinished kit, but the direction the kit is going towards is at least complete enough to judge, main thing it’s missing is mega launcher ghost stab. As for exo itself: Essentially impossible to switch into. Grounds get pounded by ghost stab, letting everything else take on its most terrifying weapon: artillery zap cannons. Not just in the raw strength, tho that is especially the case with dual wield, but also for the guarenteed paralysis, both overall and with it’s synergy with plasma pulse. And top off the set with nasty plot and all of a sudden you got an absurdly strong stall breaker.
