parents denied me going to the Bad Hair Day tour as a kid, ive since made it up by seeing Al FOUR TIMES. first 2 were outdoor shows during the summer fair/carnival, 2 years in a row. one of those shows he did the extended version of Albuquerque! for Mandatory Fun he did the Tacky intro, singing in his way from dressing room to the stage. finally, i saw him on the Vanity tour. when i walked past the sound mixers and saw the massive computer hooked to it, i immediately thought 'i hope he's recording the show'. woo, i called that one, he recorded the entire tour! at my show he claims it was the very first time EVER they played BOTH xmas songs at one concert. sadly, no Strings Attached is close to me so that i will miss.

Years and years ago, (I think it was on the Dr. Demento Show) I heard an AMAZING parody of Chip Trick's "Surrender." It was about Larry King and was titled "Suspenders." --- "Suspenders! Suspenders! But don't throw your belt away." I thought it was Weird Al, but I have searched and searched and never found it. Does ANYBODY know what I am talking about, or am I crazy and have been sitting on a gold mine for the past 20 years???

The first time I met Weird Al (around 1991) I wore a Metallica Ride the Lightning T-shirt to the concert and he gave me an odd look. He made a joke during the concert about ending up at an amusement park in Omaha, Nebraska (which it was lol). That's what happens when you study at the Conservatory of Music in Boise. The second time, around 1996, he autographed my "Weird Al in 3-D" album. His comment was, "ohhh, vinyl!"

I agree that Paul M should have let Al parody Live and Let Die. Really kind of ridiculous to feel that strongly on the subject. People that love Al would TOTALLY have a respect for Paul having let...or should I say "approve" Al doing it (being he doesn't need permission) yet sadly we have to miss this gem being recorded. Al being SO damn nice respecting the artist's wishes an' all :(

From everything I've heard, the Seuss estate was very much *not* fine with the live-action Cat in the Hat movie, and that's a big part of why they've tightened the restrictions on who can use the good Doctor's work. We may have Mike Myers to blame for Weird Al's "Green Eggs and Ham" never getting an album release.

Well, yes and no. It's true that legally Al could probably release GE&H over the objections of the Geisel Estate. Parody does fall under fair use, as was previously noted. However Al has long held to a policy of not releasing parody tracks without the express permission of the artist he's parodying or the estate of that artist if the original artist is dead. It's not a question of whether he's legally entitled to do so; he just chooses not to. So in a sense, OP's statement is not wrong. If the Geisel estate was so turned off by the CitH movie that they declined to grant permission to Al for GeaH, it's not so far-fetched to claim a direct line of responsibility to Mike for Al's decision. Legal considerations notwithstanding.

As much as I love Weird Al, his parodies were always tame and avoided a lot of edge. My band, The Inputs practiced a song list to appear as an amputee cover band of The Cars, called The Carts. We practiced a whole number of songs with amputee lyrics and standup comedy about amputees. We were going to use the amp carts and wood blocks as props, we finally never performed a show as this crazy mystery side act, where we continued to do shows as ourselves.

I've seen him in concert for every tour since Bad Hair Day (except for Poodle Hat -- I have no idea how that tour slipped by me). I've been a Weird Al fan since I was a kid, and when I heard my first Weird Al song (Smells Like Nirvana), I became obsessed and have some pretty good memories involved with Weird Al's albums I had as a kid. That also means I was able to see his concert medleys where he performed I'm in Love Wit Da Skipper and Free Delivery (oh, and We All Have Cell Phones). Although now that Pac-Man has appeared on Weird Al's album Medium Rarities (which I do not have because I'm not rich and don't have a few hundred dollars to blow on a collection of music I already own save the new rarities album), does that invalidate number 11 from your list?

I've been a fan of Al's since Eat It on Night Tracks. I've seen him three times in concert here in Oregon, once in Eugene (the audience cheered wildly when he got to the Tonya Harding part of "Headline News" since she's local) and twice at the State Fair. I'm not sure on which concert tours they were, probably Bad Hair Day and Running With Scissors (I want to say Alapalooza for the first one because I got a hat with the logo, but they might have been selling those at others). It was all mid to late 90s. The third concert, some members of the audience was waiting close to the backstage area afterwards, and security comes out and tells us that Al himself was going to come out and shake everyone's hands, so to line up along the barricade. After everyone got lined up, the security person comes out and says, "Al's not going to be able to come out here... so we're going to have you come back and get autographs." So I actually got to meet him briefly, get his autograph and shake his hand. One of the best moments of my life

What? ... no, "You're Pitiful!"? The song that Al, (at the very last minute), had to pull from his "Straight out of Lynwood" album, because James Blunt got 'a wild hair', (To put it bluntly), and wouldn't give his permission for the soulfully-sung parody of Blunt's "You're Beautiful" to be 'Al-icized'? ('The Reverse B.J.' was again approached for his OK, so the song could be included on Al's, "Squeezebox: The Collected Works of Weird Al Yankovich" 'al'-bum, but to no avail.) The song has to be one of Al's best songs ever, and it's omission from "The D-List" here, is like ... like,... like having a "List of Top 100 Rock 'n' Roll Songs, Ever!", and not including "Stairway to Heaven"!! - if you can even imagine such a travesty. I know "I" cant. "SO YOU JUST BETTER START PAYING MORE ATTENTION TO DOTTING THOSE "i"s and CROSSING THOSE "t''s, MISTER!!" (at doggan)

I considered You're Pitiful, but I decided that the fact that it got a weirdal.com release, even as a free download, means it doesn't really count as "unreleased". I've gone back and forth on that several times since.
@jamescameron277

@@doggans Hmmm. To me, released means put on a record. For after all is said and done, that is how a recording artist's work is measured and remembered. But since Al is considered as much, if not more so, an artist of music video (parody), then perhaps you have something there. It's as though Al may be one of the few exceptions to that. You've now kind of put me on the fence about it. I feel like an alleycat without purpose...
