Great list, Barenpark is one of my favourites. Totally agree with your take on Splendor, it is a lot to take in for a noobie.

Would love to see Cinque terre with modern day components. Shaped Resource tokens. And a car that holds them

Skull King is not that overly complicated. I'm pretty sure I could teach it to a newbie to trick taking games and they would grasp the concepts pretty quickly.

Skull King just like all Grandpa Beck's Games that has a basic and advanced version so that a new players can understand the strategy with the basic play before moving to the rest of the advance options.

The one thing I was sure of was that King of Tokyo would be on your list. But not! Maybe it's still another level up? Interesting that your list strongly favors abstracts. Here's what I might recommend: King of Tokyo San Juan Splendor Tokaido Tsuro (this could go on your earlier list I think) Azul Forbidden Desert Fantasy Realms Jaipur Dominion

Thanks for giving Skull King the #1 spot , as well as giving good praise on the quality of mechanics we've produced.

I will say Barenpark it's a gateway game. I like it but did not see any trouble while playing with newcomers. Yeah the game have various elements, the racing aspect, the tile placement and the construction, but they all are very straight forward. Beside that, the game have a peaceful vibe, like Ticket to Ride.

I think it can be for some, but since this was a follow up to my previous video which was intended for people where they could buy the game and teach it to themselves with the rules (not another gamer), I think this has a lil too much going on for the Uno crowd in that perspective but I see what you're saying!

How about Awkward Guests instead of Sleuth

I found Awkward guests more of a hand management game than a deep deduction game.

I would go with wingspan over gizmos. I think it would be easier for new gamers to manage their hand rather than try to compete for cards. Plus the theme is more inviting.

In Wingspan you have to manage your hand and compete to take new birds, and overall it's more complex and long than gizmos.

Dan actually has my respect for choosing Gizmos. While I understand the popularity of Wingspan, I think Gizmos is more exhilarating to play and is a more straightforward, functional engine building design.

I love that you included Cinque Terre! That is one of my all time favorite games and I’m often surprised it doesn’t get more praise or recognition. I think it is the best pick-up and deliver game and the perfect streamlined exercise in efficiency. The rules are incredibly simple, yet it often melts my mind as I try to hold my next three turns in my head. I also love the wooden trucks and vibrant colors.
