Fun fact about the Blues Brothers, the mall they went crashing through was a failed mall that was basically closed at the time of filming, the cars in the parking lot were all planted, and nearly every storefront was fake. The Toys R Us was a Walgreens originally, but Walgreens had just finished moving out since the mall had, well failed, and didn't want to be involved in the movie. Pretty much immediately after filming, the mall was shuttered and left completely abandoned. It had no utilities or security, so it deteriorated, was vandalized, looted, and a haven for crime. It wasn't finally demolished until 2012 and by that point, it looked terrifying. It was called Dixie Square Mall.

"Big" was one of many body swap comedies which came out in 1987/1988, but is still fondly remembered today. It's likely a combination of Tom Hanks' winning, convincingly performance as a child in a adult's body, the famous piano scene, or shaking up the typical body swap formula by merely showing the story through one perspective, not two. As he matures, the adults around him rediscover their inner children.
@Heathcoatman
3 ай бұрын
People who find Big 'problematic' are the people that really enjoy being recreationally outraged. I think the movie shows (in addition to your points) that being serious and losing that inner child does not always equate to happiness. All the adults that are around Hanks' character grow and learn to hang on to a tiny bit of that child in them.

We seem to have regressed as a society, back to victorian values of what is problematic and what is not. The reason is context. Back then we understood the whole, the why, the context. Nowadays the thinking stops at the visible image or word. People don't get context any longer. Like cancelling a book for having the word racist in the title, when it is actually ani-racism.
