Quite a few of these feel so rewarding though once you get to grips with how it works. Darkest Dungeon is stressful when you first start, but many hours later you just feel yourself addicted to it. Same with XCOM 2. And even Papers Please feels not so bad once you have a routine in place of what to check and when, so you become like clockwork. Amazing games.

What I like about games I've played is the replay value. Something you come back to over and over again cause you love it. Majora's Mask I've done quite a few times cause of that. Sure three days but when you slow time down you're giving yourself more breathing room. That being said, Metroid Dread is the first Metroid game in the series I will not be playing through again. Stressful? I think you hit the nail on the head a little too accurately. The E.M.M.I.'s presence in their patrol routes was rough enough as is but given you not only have to avoid being caught while running the game stressing the point (no pun) of escaping a capture being "nigh" impossible does not help. I've read some comments here how people say Fusion's SA-X is tough and you have to avoid it. Which is true. You have to avoid and hide. Dread takes that feature and amps it up 7 times increasing those stress levels each encounter. And you can't hide unlike Fusion. And having come from the era of the NES hard genre, you'd think I'd be ok with that. Nope. Sorry, but Dread is something I will not be returning to.

Monkey Ball and Keep talking and nobody dies for me. Monkey Ball was so stressful as a kid, and probably still now. the countdown timer and the precision needed to reach the goal had me biting my DS as a kid and wanting to throw my gamecube out the window. and kwep talking and nobody dies is literally a VR Bomb disarming game that other people have to give you instructions to finish puzzles but they don’t know which puzzles you have so you both have to describe them and hope you are right.

Endling for PS4 & PS5 is stressful. You have to search for your missing fox cub while making sure your remaining 3 don't starve. But the prey you catch doesn't respawn, forcing you to go out further to find food. But you can't stay out too long. You must return to your den before sunrise. And there are dangers that change location each day or after a major event.
@llamasarus1

When I think stressful, I don't think frustratingly difficult, necessarily. I think of stress as being fear and anxiety-inducing. Cuphead and Super Meatboy are one of the least stressful, difficult games I've played.
@firstclaw1
Жыл бұрын
Me, too. Getting stressed out about multiple failures in hard games like in Meatboy etc. is not the same as the stress of a game where in a situation the player gets confronted with many urgent tasks at once. Also horror games are a special kind of stress. I get more stressed, when I have to make many correct decisions with an unforgiving time limit like in Papers, please. Or if bugs rip your base apart in Factorio and you have difficulty to stop them. Or if your base in Oxygen Not Included deteriorates due to burnt-out inhabitants. What about Rimworld in case of desaster? Or Icarus during a timed mission, or 7 days to Die when you have difficulty to protect yourself... There are many other games I feel more stressed than some mentioned ones. Darkest Dungeons does qualify for a "stressful" game in my books though, because it is part of the gameplay and you want to avoid it for better chances of success or at least survival.

Driver 2, which is notorious of its difficulty missions, can be very stressful as hell because of some missions, enemies and cop ai are so relentless to make sure you won't finish some missions. the game's missions are near impossible and infuriating (especially Las Vegas and Rio de Janeiro as they are far worse than in Chicago and Havana missions whereas Havana was brutal and unforgivable because ai will not stop smashing up your car till its wrecked.) If you wrecked your car or fail to complete the mission,you have to start over that mission again and again.

Final Fantasy IX if you wan't to get a certain sword. Pretty much any game with thirst, hunger or sanity meters or oxygen timers unless those are pretty generous. (Subnautica is pretty generous IMHO but that won't help people with certain fears and it's easy to miss important things and struggle to advance.) If you really hate yourself "I wanna be the guy" or some Kaizou Mario. If it hadn't been on the list I'd have added Alien: Isolation too. But the Alien vs. Predator games are also pretty intense as a Marine. Honestly even as an Alien because although you are highly mobile and can kill quickly, they also can end you easily.
