I'm surprised. I thought Jessica Rabbit would have at least made honorable mention. She even says "I can't help it, I was drawn this way." in the movie. She's sexualization personified. Though, to be fair, she also actually contributed something more than just sex to the movie.

Needlessly sexualized means it has no reason other than to be eye-candy. Ruby Roundhouse, for example, shouldn’t be on this list because they pretty much give an explanation as to why she’s dressed like that. It’s part of the video game developing persona. If Ruby was actually a needlessly sexualized character, then Jessica Rabbit should be as well, but they’re not because both characters have another purpose for being sexualized. Jessica Rabbit has that line: “I’m not bad. I’m just drawn that way.”

I'm actually more worried about the person who is putting them on the list for the sexualized part. If they think thats what is sexualized or overly sexy for half these things, I worry what goes on in their mind. Been awhile since I watched it, but I think it was also because each of the characters are playing people who are the opposite of them. You had a nerd who's a bit paranoid about things who becomes the Rock. A jock type learns how it feels to be half his real size and be nothing but a mule (the trope of how jocks make nerds do their work for them and never give credit). Basically the prom queen being turned into a fat guy, but instead of being a ditz has an actual brain with the map reading and I think they also had knowledge of the various animals? Then lastly the girl who's self conscious of herself being made both hot and a total badass. All of this sorta leads to "opposite day" to teach them what it's like to be on the other side of things. Overall I found this list kind of a mixed bag as some of them had logic behind the reason for it (the other big thing being the TX. Keeping a low profile and getting your way, naturally as a female putting sexuality to work helps get one's way without causing a scene, so she was just doing what would work without giving herself away) or they were just being a bit nitpicky about things. But I will agree that stuff like Babs, Jacob and Halle Berry were on point.

@69belhaven
4 жыл бұрын
@@catisreckless4647 I tried finding that info since I had never heard about it and my only guess is it was maybe an interview quote or something from around the time but beats me since I couldn't find it. The real reason Lara Croft was made (she wasn't their first or 2nd choice) was because the original design was super derivitive of Indiana Jones so they decided to make multiple new models and let people choose while testing which one to play and almost unanimously it was the one who would end up being Lara Croft. She was named Laura Cruz and supposed to be south american but the publisher (going off memory on this one so forgive me if it wasn't the pub but someone else) wanted her to be more "Brit friendly" and went through a phone book to find a similar sounding brit name aka Lara Croft. They made a couple dumb jokes during interviews that they had to later take back and correct because they were taken seriously like the supposed instance where the lead designer accidentally increased her boobs by 150% but they wouldn't let him change it back which was not actually the case so it wouldn't surprise me if said comment was made at some point but was never true.

@@catisreckless4647 lol what? I'm in my 30s and it's commons knowledge. A quick Google search would have likely proven it for you. The main dev made a few jokes about modeling the character well after it was made but the developers have all stated the model was made off of drawn models based on some previous artwork. The only comment even tangentially related to what you put is "she was meant to be attractive, we figured if youre going to be following her all game she should be appealing to look at. It worked for both men and women on that basis" and went on to clarify that she was never meant to be anything but an "unattainable, austere, dangerous sort of person". I don't think wanting the character in your game to be attractive is over sexualizing but if it is to you I guess you do you.

WatchMojo: We'll be looking at both male and female film characters Also WatchMojo: Only includes *2* men to meet their equality quota, one of which was *Tommy Wiseau,* 1 entry where it's not even the characters that are sexualized, it's the scene itself. And then... Cats. Okay, I can kinda agree with Cats, they're pretty uncomfortable, but the rest? Let characters be sexual and look attractive, it's not a crime. This feels more like "Attacking women for showing any skin whatsoever" the video.

Surprised that Wonder Woman isn't on this list. I don't think she's sexualised but people will look for literally any excuse to complain about a movie. Just because her outfit in the movie showed off her arms and legs doesn't make it sexy. That's literally what a female Greek warrior would have worn if there had been any back in Ancient Greece. And since we're talking about it, James Cameron is such a hypocrite for criticising Wonder Woman. Like, The Terminator literally involves Sarah having sex and getting pregnant with the Chosen One. Don't even get me started on Rose from Titanic, who literally had an erotic nude drawing of her made just for the sake of it.

I hate that people dislike Leia's slave outfit. She along with every other slave women in jabba's palace was wearing that. AND IN ALL HONESTY!!! At the time of its release you rarely saw strong women leads in those costumes. Yes Luke comes back for her shortly falling into a trap, but she killed jabba with her own chains. She never wore anything like that by choice. It was a smart play to save hands and take jabba down from the inside. She plays the helpless slave girl for that scene and got the upper hand. I see it as an iconic moment in cinema history more than "boo hoo, shes too sexualized"

I would say these sexualized characters and-forgive me for being flirty and inspired for the female types-many other either recognized or not iconic characters are too good to look away from. Anyway, they’re celebrities who are most likely actors that portrayed the role of images or movies, which I quite enjoyed. Some of them are famous for cosplaying, but also for acting as the performance should be planned. But I just enjoy the company of celebrities that are based on their characters and nothing more. 1. Ruby Roundhouse (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) 😚What a wildcat! Purrr! 2. Silk Spectre II (Watchmen) 😉So silky. 3. Leeloo (The Fifth Element) 😕Too young yet spirited. 4. Tinker Bell (Peter Pan) & (Hook) 😏Ooh, yeah. What a doll. 5. Christmas Jones (The World Is Not Enough) 🙃How uncommon for woman. 6. Loana (One Million Years B.C.) 🙂Wow. What a woman. 7. The Angels (Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle) 🙁Damn! Too naughty! 8. Lara Croft (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) 😗Not bad for a woman. 9. The T-X (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) 😒Not likey. 10. Catwoman (Catwoman) 😐Yikes! Kinda sadistic. 11. The Invisible Woman (Fantastic Four) 🤫No peeping Tom! 12. Jacob Black (The Twilight Saga) 🙄Put some clothes on perv! 13. Neo & Trinity (The Matrix Reloaded) 🤢Uugh. 14. Ginger Knowles (Swordfish) 🤨What is she? A priestess? 15. Princess Leia Organa (Star Wars: Episode VI- Return of the Jedi) 😟Why is she almost naked?! 16. Lola Bunny (Space Jam) 😍Woo woo woo! What a honey bunny. 17. Mikaela Banes (Transformers) 😘What a babe. 18. Johnny (The Room) 😒Great. “Heeeeere’s Johnny!” 19. Harley Quinn (Suicide Squad) 😜She is soooo bad. 20. The Cats (Cats) 😾Not my type, meow! Others: -Helen Tasker (True Lies) 😖Not my type. -Dr. Carol Marcus (Star Trek Into Darkness) 😮Whoa! -Akasha (Queen of the Damned) 😙Oooh, sexy.

because when it comes to women, they (male directors) sexualize them for eye candy (aka for male consumption)... think of it like this: a lot of men cat call women because they think we dress FOR them... it's kind of similar logic when it comes to scenes like these, they think we (for lack of better word) exist for them to look at
@phoebegreig6523
4 жыл бұрын
Jasc Random: I agree. The whole point of a sexualised character it to showcase femininity either at its worst, or at its best. A woman’s most primal nature is to use allure to draw in a mate.. Why do we need to hide that in films? Just because a small minority of the public don’t understand this doesn’t mean it should stop.. And is it really such a bad thing to tap into male primal instincts to get them to watch? Men liked to be teased as much as women.. It’s not a crime..
@alexbennet4195
4 жыл бұрын
Phoebe Greig: Don’t you see a little bit of an issue with the fact that female characters are super disproportionately sexualised, super disproportionately by straight men, in industries super disproportionately dominated by men, catering for straight male interests, creating... not the greatest environment for those who aren’t part of that group, and the impression amongst many that’s by and large it’s a female role to “be sexy”?
@phoebegreig6523
4 жыл бұрын
Alex Bennet Sometimes there is need for a sexualised character. Whatever gender they are.. While I will admit it’s not always the case I’m not blind to the fact that 66% of a cinematic audience is straight, whether you like it or not. And men are simple creatures, they like to be teased.. This is why the new Charles Angels and Birds of Prey failed.. They took properties designed to entice men and basically destroyed them..
@melwhy5035

It depends on the movie, but mostly it makes no sense for the character or the storyline, it adds nothing and forces the audience (at least the part that doesn't watch movies to see boobies) out of the story and into the reality that the director/producer/whoever just wanted to make money by selling sex. Cheap methods like overly sexualized characters just ruin a movie when they don't make sense. Having a character that is naturally sexual and sensual is great. Forcing every female or male attractive character to have the Sexy Scene is just stupid.

Could have easily cut out a lot of these that shouldn't be on the list and made it a top 10. Also I find it funny that they are shocked the invisible woman needs to take off her clothes, then throw in the comment about how they can't believe they made her clothes burn off either. I guess they forget the first scene with us seeing Johnny's power, all his clothes burn off and he is naked basically in a hot tub when we was out skiing. I think that was just a funny and obvious thing to do with his power. Accidentally burn off clothes. Powers stop working when taking off clothes to be invisible.
