What about front body lock vs tight waist vs arms just on their thighs? Eoghan said in a podcast that how you lock your hands when attacking from the front will depend on your opponent’s size

I’m referring to specifically the top 3 locked hands passing positions - tight waist works hand in hand with body lock passing and is great at the appropriate time.

Thanks for the summary ! I'll try this tomorrow. Is there any important adjustment necessary for it to work in the Gi ?
@giancarlobodonibjj

If anything the added friction makes it even better in the gi. Only thing I would say is there’s always a slight degree of danger of cross collar and loop choke due to the lapels so just be cautious of that especially with front body lock. Otherwise you’re good.

How important is the hand grip when body locking? Is there grips that are better than the other or is it preference?
@adamdlamp

100% Your partner's body size and your arm length etc will dictate what grip you should choose to use. When body locking you want to clamp your upper arms (above the elbow) on their upper thigh. You may need to adjust your grip to get your arms in correct position.

There’s a basic trade off between tightness of the lock vs base of support - palm to palm and wrist to wrist give you tighter locks around the hips but a more narrow base of support. S grip/10finger grip gives you a looser control but wider base of support and the ability to more easily use long arm short arm. Deciding which to use will sometimes rely on your anatomy relative to your partners but the basic trade off is what I mentioned.
