Bjj ( Gracie Jiu Jitsu might be better ) and for Wrestling maybe Catch bc it has locks , kimuras and other . One thing we have to rember is that going for a double might hurt your knees if you do it on concrete. Just thought I shared my opinion. I saw a video from Burt Richardson ( I believe that's his name ) where he talk about places and environment where it's safe / ok to grapple with another person.

I don’t disagree with any of your choices at all. My only qualification is that I’d recommend a grappling art, a striking art and a bladed weapon art. If for nothing else to learn to defend against them. Grappling doesn’t really teach you how to deal with someone swarming you throwing haymakers or someone pulling a knife and stabbing you. Those three ranges seem to cover most bases - edged weapons, striking (punching) and grappling. All your recommendations are solid grappling options but leave an officer rather unprepared for other attacks, in my experience. I say this as a 27 year LE veteran and lifelong martial artist. Just my take on the topic.

I agree that having striking based, weapons-based AND grappling based training are ideal. In my book, this is what I refer to as “hybrid” training. I wholeheartedly support this if an officer can invest the time to pursue each area. In a perfect world where all cops train on a regular basis, I believe police DT should be its own martial art where the various unique needs of the job are prioritized. But if I had to choose ONE martial art for an officer, it would be a grappling based art. That was the point of this particular video. I also would respectfully disagree with your view that grappling based arts don’t teach you how to deal with punches or weapons, particularly judo and BJJ. I know these arts address those variables but this is completely based on the instructor/coach teaching the art. But I agree that the level of skill/emphasis is not comparable to practitioners of striking or weapons based systems. My recommendation for those who are interested in studying a martial art is to find a base art and supplement it by training other ranges if needed. Thanks for the comment!
