There are interesting enough things in less dangerous situations, and then videos of the people who must do this type of thing. Point being, I can watch and imagine the situation without risking my life to be there. But i bet a lot of people say that about drag racing, so no judgment here.

The stairway to heaven is one of my favorite trails and being a native Hawaiian we go hunting over there all the time. My dad was a guard over-there and he had countless stories of people who actually live there, they are bush people and are like animals, literally “mutating humans.” My dad had encountered them many times and said that the language they spoke was not Hawaiian, it was like inaudible groans and noises. Very aggressive people and are most likely people who grew up in the wilderness of those valleys and live off the land like my ancestors. Would not recommend this trail but if you are an adrenaline junkie and love a thrill, your are welcome to do so at your own risk.

The Bouvet Island boat mystery has been conclusively solved - it was abandoned by a Russian expedition to the island a few years before. They had taken a couple of boats to the beach, returned with one. As the weather worsened, they retrieved their team with their helicopter, leaving the second boat behind. Apparently there was no way they could safely get the boat with its crew safely back to the ship through the surf.

that last story is so sad. they shouldn’t have risked going to a sealed off area at all, but it makes me wonder so badly what richard saw that made him peel out of there so quickly without his equipment. if he just let go of the tank you think he would’ve tried his hardest to get it instead of just letting it go. it makes me wonder if there were bodies/bones in the way of the tight space. or if it was something worse... sadly we’ll never know. huge shout out to his friend for immediately sharing his air and trying to save him. if only they wouldn’t have went up the wrong way, then they both could’ve lived. but it’s an easy mistake ESPECIALLY in super stressful situations.. that’s what people don’t understand. they like to talk shit from the comfort of their couch saying they’d do this and they’d do that, but the truth is, there is NO guarantee on what you would do in these situations and you’ll never know unless it happens to you. the body and mind does some really fucked up things in times of stress and danger. not to mention all of the added weirdness that being deep underwater already does to you.

I'm thinking there was probably at least one body right near the exit but not in it, since you have to wriggle out of it, he'd have to have gotten through and turned around. I'm thinking he saw something and was surprised or startled, dropped the tank, and maybe it's one of those dark bottomless pits, so he panicked and now he's panicking even more trying to squeeze through this hole, that far down, without any air, knowing that if his friend wasn't there or didn't take action fast enough to share air he'd be dead.

The stairway hike is dangerous, but only if it’s rainy or really windy. David was out on a clear day with decent wind conditions. I’ve done that hike a few times with my Marine buddies while I was stationed on O’ahu, and it’s very unlikely he would have fallen or slipped on a day like that. Not to mention the fact they never found a body, and he was hiking alone. Also, there’s no reason for anyone to be in those trees, no other trails are NEAR that close to the stairway trail, and he does look like he’s crouching. I’ve heard many stories of single’s and couple’s “disappearing” during night hikes on O’ahu. I’ve also heard there is a group of very resentful locals who kidnap and murder tourists because they don’t like tourists or outsiders. Some locals have very strong opinions about this stuff, but don’t let this scare you away, most of the locals are amazing kind warm-hearted people, these are just some rumors I had heard during my service.

@gavinjenkins899
Жыл бұрын
You can absolutely see things. That comment only pertained to a single room of a specific cave. Not all cave diving in general. It's probably not even true anyway, I believe that happened quite awhile ago and techniques have improved since then for kicking in ways that don't pull up silt. Some places it's still unavoidable, but like 95% of the time you can see just fine if you have good technique. There is also no reason to seal off false exits, because you ALWAYS follow a rope line, and the line has the direction to the true exit on arrows tied into it regularly. It is not possible to end up in a false exit unknowingly if you follow the required certification training and rules. Meanwhile, people sometimes WANT to go into false exists to see them, and sealing them off would prevent that. But when you go in, you again have a rope line, with the arrows pointing BACK out to the real exit, so you cannot get confused if you follow the rules.

A breath doesn't consume all the oxygen that you hold, that pressure feeling in your lungs when you hold your breath is actually your body scrubbing co2 out of your bloodstream and taking some o2 back in. Co2 is bigger than o2 so the pressure in your lungs increases. The trick is to exhale just a tiny bit to offset that pressure increase and you can hold your breath for much longer because that screaming pain in your lungs asking for air doesn't happen, at least quite that way. Still fucking insane and I probably wouldn't have made it in that situation.

The Stairs were open for the longest time, so popular that dozens of day hikers would be on the trail/stairs with you and the sketchy parts were easily tackled by watching a fellow hiker navigate a gap in the stairs or with careful hiking if no one was around… The county closed the stairs to repair them then briefly re-opened them then closed them permanently… the county also did this with another high risk, high land slide area on Oahu, the sacred falls.
