@@requiemforamerica8432 About 5 and a half years ago I changed my diet. I did so based on science. I experimented on my self, an n=1 experiment. I had just been diagnosed with sever type 2 diabetes. I already had cancer for over ten years. But the diabetes was a wake up call. Indeed, it was the Standard American Diet that caused it. I switched to a 100% plant free diet. Traded all my carbs for fat. Began eating about 2x as much food calorie wise. The next day my avg blood glucose dropped to normal, 85 from 250. At my four month follow up for diabetes my HbA1c had dropped to non diabetic level of 5.5%. Down from 11.7%. Cured my diabetes. I felt so damn good I decided why should I stop, i feel great! Then I realized, about two years later, I had forgotten about my cancer. It was shrinking at twice the rate it had been growing. It was being reversed. IT WAS DYING. It was now small enough to have it frozen out. Previously, the only option was to remove the kidney (it was an RCC). But now it was small enough to do cryo-ablation. That was in 2020. Nearly three years later still cancer free. My kidney stones cleared up. I was passing at least one kidney stone a month for the previous two years, before the diet change. I have had zero kidney stone since. Five and a half years later zero kidney stones. I have a long list of other health items that improved. In no particular order, asthma gone, allergies gone, IBS gone, arthritis gone, just to name a few. Going Carnivore fixed everything I had wrong with my body except one. I have a back injury I received in the military. I was crushed between. A two ton aircraft generator and a pickup truck. That was over 30 years ago. So having 99.999% of my health, is nothing to sneeze at. The cancer makes sense. Cancers feed on sugar. Stop the exogenous sugars, stop the cancer.

I’m not a vegan activist, so I’m not putting any concerted effort into convincing others to go vegan. I’d like to do more someday. When I first went vegan, I found it so distressing being around non-vegans (which was everyone), knowing what I knew. I really wanted my friends and family to go vegan and I couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t consider it. I still don’t fully understand, but I’ve found much more peace in letting go of expectations. I exist as a vegan - I have my boundaries (do not ask me to pick up some cheese for you at the market, even if you’re paying), but I don’t expect anyone else to change.

I can resonate with this. I felt the same way when I first went vegan, it was distressing being around non-vegans (like in your case that was everyone I knew). I do feel more at peace now and I don't expect anyone to go vegan, the change of heart can only come through oneself. We can educate them about the horrors of factory farming/dairy industry etc, but beyond that it's their call to change or to continue abusing animals (sadly the latter is more likely). I live at home too so it's more difficult being around non-vegan food all the time, but I'm doing my best and I'm sure you are too so all we have to do is keep going and spreading the message whenever we can.

Vegan is unfortunately also getting 'ex-vegan' celebrities now, such as Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus, etc speaking out. Who are big influencers sadly, whether we like it or not. Bear Grylls in the UK is the latest where I am. Although it's doubtful he ever was actually vegan, or certain celebrities were. Add that to also quite a number of KZitem influencers coming out as ex-vegans, and news stories every other week it seems of someone bleating 'I saved my life by eating meat after going vegan!' - even though behind the scenes they're probably doing things unhealthily we know. So we're really up against it now. Mainstream masses and media doesn't care about this of course, because it tells them what they want to hear. I will seldom then if ever sadly use the term 'vegan' now with people who are not already vegan, for these reasons. I will talk about 'plant based' if I can and it's appropriate, with people I meet in person, which tends to get a less defensive, and more enquiring reaction. It's sad that vegan has come to be such a polarising term in so little a time again, but that's the mainstream media's sick joy I'm afraid. Thanks Ana and Brian for what you do, but we need to perhaps come away from 'vegan' as a term for a while, given what's happening? People refusing plant based living, because they hear now 'danger' when they hear vegan prematurely, sadly probably isn't helping animals at this point.

@@MustardSkaven to quote Plant Based News's article on this, May 17th: 'Was Bear Grylls really vegan? Grylls receives a great deal of publicity for his anti-vegan rhetoric. Whether he actually followed the lifestyle, however, is questionable. The vegan cookbook that he refers to in the GQ and PA interviews was likely Fuel for Life, which he co-wrote with a nutritionist. While the book advocates for a dairy, wheat, and sugar-free lifestyle, it does contain meat recipes. He also states in the book that he ate what he calls “honest meat” (which he defines as non-factory farmed and unprocessed), alongside his mostly plant-based diet'

First off, who says "No one is listening to vegan activism"? Veganism is growing faster than it ever has, so the vegan message is getting across, somehow. Who is to say what kind of activism is most effective? My take is that it takes all kinds. Everyone is different, on both sides of the debate. Different people are naturally inclined towards adopting different approaches, and likewise different people are more receptive to different approaches. So I'd say stop telling people "You're doing it wrong". They aren't - they're doing it their way, which is right for them, and ti will impact some people, and leave others cold - and this is true for ALL approaches. Remember too that many omnis are just looking for an excuse to be turned off. In-your-face activism is one such excuse they find, sure - but so is "nice" activism, which allows them to go away and carry on as usual without feeling bad. There is no such thing as bad activism. My decision to "go vegan" led to the (unsurprising?) discovery that my physiology responds far better to a WF omnivore diet. nope you don't have to eat animals. your physiology is not "special" - but you are simply used to eating animal flesh and you are psychologically conditioned to think that as being normal and you haven't stopped seeing animals as food. Going vegan means you STOP seeing animals as food, rather than you CHOOSING to try a diet. I used to think that I NEEDED to eat a steak every now and then and this belief became a self fullfilling prophecy and I didn't feel RIGHT until I ate a big steak. NO HUMAN HAS AN ACTUAL NEED TO EAT ANIMALS. ONLY OBLIGATE CARNIVORE HAS SUCH NEED. There's no such thing as an omnivore - meaning ALL animals CAN digest flesh, but ONLY carnivores NEED to eat flesh. And, surprise surprise, these obligate carnivores actually ALSO EAT PLANTS. So the ONLY OMNIVORES (those who need to eat both plants and flesh) ARE OBLIGATE CARNIVORES. All other animals, including humans do NOT have this need for flesh AT ALL.
