I have a good true story that I witnessed over 25 years ago. I am a retired Vietnam vet and after the war I was looking for something to straighten me out after coming home. I discovered flying and it was just the rehabilitation I needed. The couple that owned this airport I flew out of had raised ten children. The airport had been a milking farm before the owner discovered flying too and turned the farm into an airport. Their one son who is my age 77, when he was five or six he fell out of the hay loft and landed on his head leaving him with permanent brain damage. He talked real slow and his lower lip kind of hung down and he was always nice to talk to Joe. I lost both legs in Vietnam so I could somewhat relate with Joe. I learned to fly a little aircraft called an Ercoupe that had no rudder pedals. Joe worked at the airport washing planes and what ever his dad had him do. Joe also worked with some of the farmers around the area. Joe met and married one of the farmers daughters who was a little on the heavy side but Joe found the love of his life. They had two twin boys John and Jerry who were about ten or twelve when I met them. I flew for ten years but lost my FAA medical card because of high BP and had to give it up. I would still drive out to the airport every now and then just to say hello. Years slipped bye and before to long John and Jerry are about to graduate from high school with a senior class of less than a hundred students. John had been a good student and athlete being captain of the basketball and baseball team. He decided to join the Navy and learn about nuclear power and submarines. He was stationed around Jacksonville Fl. and John went with some other buddies to a bar the enjoyed. A fight broke out between two guys in the bar and they took the fight outside between two buildings. John and his buddies with a bunch more guys filed out to watch the fight. The one guy beat the other guy up and left him laying on the ground. As the winner walked away the guy who got beat down pulled a knife and went after him. Without hesitation John jumped in and grabbed the guy with the knife who in turn stabbed John in the gut. John was rushed to the hospital and luckily the knife hit no major organs. Johns grandparents who own the airport bought a winter retreat in Florida and the Navy gave John three weeks leave to heal up. He went to his grandparents place to take it easy and heal up. He got a call from a high ranking Navy officer who told him that the Navy had to investigate the incident and in doing so they noticed Johns high school performance with excellent grades and being captain of both basketball and baseball team. The Navy officer then told John that you are exactly the type of man the Navy needs and wants. He then told John that the Navy would like to offer him full ride to The United States Naval Academy (USNA, Annapolis ). John went on to Annapolis and as he was getting ready to graduate his entire family were going to see him graduate. His father Joe had never worn anything but bib overhauls. His mother told him he was going to have to wear a suit and Joe said no he wouldn't wear a suit. He stood firm no suit. I saw the family picture with John. His dad Joe had a sport coat on over his bib overhauls at Annapolis.

Actually most serial killers are not stopped by police but by picking the wrong victims. A guy in the 1950s who they believed had killed dozens dating back to the 1930s was killed simply walking up to the wrong door. Failed to realize the girl he had picked had a dad with bad PTSD from WW2 he knocked on the door and dad shot through the door.
