Oxana’s parents didn’t forget they had a daughter, they severely neglected her. She was still living on their property with a pack of dogs when authorities removed her from their “custody”. They knew she was there the nearly 5 years she spent outside. Oxana is now 39 and lives in assisted living, according to doctors she has the mental capacity of a 6 year old and they think this is due to her lack of upbringing in her formative years. Oxana says she would like to be treated as a normal person. She said she sometimes reverts to dog like behavior when she is lonely. She is sad because she has no real family. She met her biological father as an adult and was introduced to a half sister he had. But her father was not interested in a relationship. Apparently she would like to meet her biological mother but news media that has done stories on Oxana have not been able to locate her mother. I saw in one article that she has brothers apparently but they don’t visit her.

Concerning the 2 sisters: it’s madness that they were not put on an involuntary psych hold. For comparison, in 7th grade I made a joke, granted an ill-timed inappropriate one, and I was put on a 72 hour hold in a psych ward. It seems like the most extreme cast get more leniency and the lighter one get the harshest reaction. It's like the system wants to make an example out of people who do things at a low scale yo show others not to do things at a higher while also having endless empathy for those who have do things on a high scale. Not saying people shouldn't empathize with clearly mentally unstable people but also get them the help they need asap and without excuses. That doesn't help anyone.

@chloris6349
Жыл бұрын
But she was not missing - she lived next to house, in their sight, what's wrong? *sarcasm* in fact, she was very lucky to survive among dogs. I know the story when a friend with a daughter of about 4 years old came to the owner of the kennel. The women let her "walk" around the yard and sat down to dinner. After dinner, they remembered the child, began to search and found in the kennel - one of the dogs bit the girl to death. It is not known why the dog became so aggressive. But a small child only needs one serious bite to bleed to death.
@fenuays9662
Жыл бұрын
This was a child that was severely neglected by parents and likely didn't have much of a motivation to explore her surroundings. She may have been afraid of the dogs until they came and comforted her. I'm betting the child that the kennel owner let walk around the yard either did something to the dog or the dogs were being kenneled to be watched and the owner didn't know their personalities well enough to protect the child from one that may have been child aggressive. Both stories are sad. But at least for Oksana she had a chance to live and experience life. I feel so sorry for the little child that was bitten and bled to death. 😢

You'd be surprised how hard it actually is to get someone held when they are showing signs of self harm or being a danger to themselves. Because of the bodily autonomy laws they have to be crystal clear that they mean to hurt themselves before they can hold someone of a psychiatric hold. Case in point, my brother. Long history of mental illness and self harm, ranging from slight cuts to literally hammering a 6 inch nail into his own knee while high on heroin. One day he decided to try and kill himself and he slit his femoral artery with a razor blade. I had heard him crying so went to check on him when i found him bleeding out, thankfully i have combat medic training so i did my thing while my mom called an ambulance and he was taken to hospital and fixed up. About 6 hours later to our horror we get a call from him asking to be picked up (it was mid 2020, that's why we weren't already there, we weren't allowed to be because of the pandemic), we were under the assumption because it was an attempted suicide he was going to be held for his own safety. But nope, he gave a half assed lie to the doctors and they released him.

These two women absolutely met the legal criteria for a 72 hour psychiatric hold (in the US anyway) on the grounds of the extreme level of lethality of the method they chose to attempt suicide. Furthermore, this method blatantly puts members of the public (anyone who's driving) at risk of serious injury or death. As someone who has spent years working in psychiatric hospitals, I'm very familiar with the requirements and procedures for placing a 72 hour MD hold. This case absolutely met the criteria. The doctors that "treated" these women and released them with a clear bill of health, these doctors should be held liable. I remember one case in the past decade or so in which someone who attempted suicide was treated for a day and released, then promptly completed suicide. It became a huge legal fiasco for the practitioners and the hospital. There are two states in this country that, when someone successfully uses the "not guilty except for insanity" plea, they are mandated into locked inpatient psychiatric treatment centers or hospitals for the duration of the longest sentence that can be applied to the crime committed. They are rather successful programs and it's astonishing to me that most states do not have these programs; the other 48 states allows anyone using the NGI plea successfully to walk free and that is really fucked.

When the police went to Lauren's apartment, it was actually garbage day, and the garbage truck was on her street. However, the police had parked their car so that it blocked the garbage cans, so the garbage truck passed by without picking up the garbage from the apartment. Had the police shown up just half an hour later, Lauren's body would have been gone, and Stephen may never have become a suspect.

@Cheepchipsable

It's only in retrospect some see it as "creepy" he was upset, but there is no reason he could not have been upset at being reminded of her death, the same way other people cry when thinking about dead loved ones. Since he was obsessed he probably did have strong feelings for her. Wonder why he actually went on to kill her. It's a bit tiresome that people seem to think there is some rote way of responding to death, or that people can't have mixed emotions, be glad someone is dead on one hand, and be sorry at thr same time.

For people wondering about how Aksana’s parents could neglect and forget her. There are…sadly…addicts who do only care about their addiction, even ignoring their children just to feed it. Given when and where the story takes place, I doubt the family had means of regular birth control either. They likely saw Aidan’s as less their child and more a burden, so even if they noticed her with the dogs they likely didn’t care.
