There's been an update to the Lady of the Dunes case: she was identified as Ruth Marie Terry late last year using DNA genealogy. It's suspected that she was ended by her new husband who was suspected of ending and mutilating his first wife and child in Seattle. Unfortunately he passed in the early 2000s so he can't be questioned or held accountable for her passing.

Not locking your door is such a strange concept to me. I live in South Africa, where you have to install burglar bars and gates in front of all windows and doors, and a wall or high fence around your whole house. Is it a thing in America to leave open windows and doors? Anyway, love you Lazy!!!!! I needed your voice today.
@raedehart2403

It kind of depends where you live in America. Larger cities and towns you'll find people have security systems, locks, guard dogs, and the like. More rural areas where crime is really low people tend to be less secure. I've had homes where I could leave my front door open all day and night and only have to worry about a barn/wild animal getting in and tearing stuff up. Granted I always lock my doors and windows regardless.

Yes I live in a rural area and in the summer we used to leave our backdoor wide open pretty much all day and night. Windows were open all summer except for when it rains. Other times we have left our front door unlocked by accident sometimes for days on end and nothing ever happened. We're more careful now that the opioid crisis has reached our area. We've seen an increase in theft. I have a security camera now but growing up they were pretty much unheard of.

Lolla Orban totally depends what city you live in! My family home is in a very nice suburb where crime is nonexistent, so we never locked doors and windows except at night to sleep. My own house now is further into the city, so I wouldn’t leave doors unlocked, but it is still very safe. I have a couple cameras just in case, but I’ve never had any issues.

The Szondi test is extremely general; sort of like how horoscopes work: vague enough that the things it gets wrong can be ignored, while naming characteristics that most people experience in their lives to emphasize accuracy. It's like those TV mediums who ask leading questions to customers to imply that they are really being guided by otherworldly influences. If you tell someone that their choice of picture will give insight into their personality, a form of confirmation bias will convince them that the test is accurate when any detail feels relevant to personal experience.

The thing about the the Szondi Test, is that it reminds me of that thing James Randi did about astrology, in which he got a bunch of volunteers to reveal their star signs, then send them a letter with outlining personality traits that were associated with their sign of the zodiac. The volunteers were amazed how accurate the assessments were. However, the letters they received were all the same and had no actual bearing on when they were born. No matter which face one picks, one could "truthfully" recognise those personality traits stated in oneself. Even if you don't, then it can be claimed "Ah! You're just _denying_ that you feel that!".

Confirmation bias is definately a thing, but there's also points that you dont identify with. I only found 1 or 2 of the faces somewhat disturbing, and most of the statements didnt apply to me. About 3 did, semi, but the point still stands. Humans like finding patterns. Our brains automatically wire towards them. When there are large (usually varied) groups of people, with specific actions or friend groups, humans w i l l try and find a correlation. Star signs are bullshit, yes, but not all the star signs are relatable to all people, and they come from a human need to connect everything with each other. They're harmless in and of themselves. Just like Rorschachs are.

I think the dispatcher thinks that when Brandon says he ran into them that he means he ran them over, but what if it means what it means in Britain - he ran into them, meaning he came across them? If so, it sounds like he came across a murder or attack on someone and that’s why he asked for the police and not an ambulance. If you’d run someone over, you’d ask for an ambulance first. My theory is that he came across something he shouldn’t have and those guys killed him to silence him and got rid of the body, possibly in their own truck or whatever. Even so, some bits of this theory don’t quite add up. There’s no yelling from the other guys whilst he’s making the call, like you’d expect from potential murderers, just a gunshot, which sounds like it could be a warning shot to me. 🤔

I think Brandon's history + police coverup + withheld information from Kyle, Kyle's gf, and Brandon's wife, is probably the best way to finish that story. Small towns have a lot of shady shit go down. My great uncle murdered 2-3 people, beat his wife and son mercilessly and the Good Ole' Boy system still kept his name clean. There is redemption. As my grandfather was passing over from this dimension to the next, he told us he was seeing heaven (or some amalgumation of it) and that *his brother wasn't there.* LOL. Karma's a bitch.

Yeah, fact he had a warrant/was into drugs really gives me the vibes that the police didn't put any real effort into it. Not Texas, but close by, dunno if it's the same there, but def have issues with police bias here (not getting political, just talking in terms of warrants vs imminent danger)

I live in a small town. My first husband was a true POS, abusive to me and our son, treated his entire family like they were just there to give him money and support him and his lifestyle, intimidated anyone that disagreed with anything he thought or said. When he got arrested for stealing from a walmart, obviously they saw that we came in together. They also saw that I was nowhere near him while he was stealing things (I was grabbing the things we actually went for like diapers, groceries, etc while he wandered around pocketing stupid shit) and clearly I was not involved with his bullshit. I still got charged and even though it was my first offense, never been in trouble with the law even as a minor, they still gave me 30 days in jail. I did eventually get my chance to leave him and you better believe I took my 3 year old (I was also 6 months pregnant with our 2nd son) and ran for the hills. The courts and police in that town knew him his entire life, they knew what kind of awful person he is and HATED the very air he breathed. I just ended up going down too because they assumed we were the same

"so what does it do?" "Do? that's the beauty of it. It doesn't *do* anything" I feel like the only plausible conclusion to that little snippet is that it's vague enough to BE anything but comes off as common enough to be at least FROM something. The reason why people would say, for example, Back to the Future is because this type of dialogue can be found between two character types. A character that serves as the audience's perception of events within the movie (Marty) and a character who answers any queries the audience may have (Doc Brown) Alot of movies, tv shows etc. have this format of dialogue. Which is why people try to place the pieces together in their mind. Personally i don't think it's really from anything but it COULD be and that's the point of it I guess.

“They were running on survival instincts.” Doesn’t that mean they would do the opposite? Like not give a hell about the other dude because they need to, idk, survive? So honor is still at play. Your family story inspired to share my own: I’m from Mexico, my grandfather is from the north. He was a member of several communist and political organizations during the 50s and 60s, eventually retiring after being a political worker (not a politician but working for the government while trying to help farmers and indigenous communities, basically middlemanning the bribes and policies that corrupt officials wanted in order to protect farmers who didn’t know they were taken advantage of while still keeping the greedy officials happy and at bay) he was a university professor, a political prisoner, amongst other things. However as intelligent and capable as he was, he refused to let go of his bold and daring attitude, even when it wasn’t principled. Because as anyone from Mexico will know, things in the north are way different than they used to, and traveling alone in the highway as an older fella with a fairly new car to visit his family in a border town across the country was a bad idea. After stopping for gas in a notoriously cartel ridden state, he noticed two cars tailgating him ever since he left the gas station. He tried to lose them but eventually accepted his fate because he noticed one of them was positioning in front of him despite him going at very very high speeds. He realized it was best to let them take his car than risk crashing in the highway and causing a deadly accident to who knows how many people. They forced him to stop in front of all the passing traffic and he was snuck from his car into a pickup truck with his head covered by a cloth. He was taken to what he believed were military as he heard his captors negotiate the bribe , as if these soldiers had a regular fee for criminals to do kidnappings in their territory and it was just business as usual. Meanwhile he was there bound and gagged in front of them. After a while he was moved into a semi truck with two other men. Before they shut him inside with them, a third man took his wallet and asked about his address and whereabouts, if he had a family and how much they’d pay for him. After a while one of the captors showed some sort of humanity and apologized to him, showing respect for elders. He seemed to feel like his crimes were not in question but the targeting of an old man was. My grandfather being the charismatic person he always was, started talking to him about his life, he started talking about when he was in prison as a political prisoner and how he taught inmates how to write and read. Apparently the two abductors ended listening to his stories like me and my cousins listening to them during Christmas under the tree. He told them about how he worked most of his life trying to help and mediate between indigenous people and rural communities and the policies of greedy politicians. This was a soft spot of the criminals because it is a very common backstory of organized crime to recruit people who are desperate because they are stuck due to corruption and lack of opportunities. The two captors seemed to be so impressed by my grandfather that they gave him back his wallet, with money and id, and after talking to the other men in the radios left him on the side of the road and said “walk straight in that direction, after a few miles you will find a small town. if you look back at all we WILL shoot you. It would be a disservice if that happened to a man of your caliber. Now start moving before we change our mind.” My grandfather started walking nervously believing he was being tricked into being executed like in the movies and war stories, shot in the back. After walking for a while and not hearing anything he started going faster and faster until he finally arrived to a town and found the nearest phone to ask for help. Maybe he was going to be shot that day, or ransomed, or maybe it was all just a scare tactic, but I personally like to believe that he was given mercy because of the life he had inspiring his captors to free him out of respect. One thing is for sure. That day my gramps learned the true meaning of “keep going and never look back”. He was hestitant to turn his back to look behind him for years, even after he was safe, back at home

#17 "The beauty of it" You can find several variations of the line in dozens of movies, but the exact wording of these two lines, not so much. Guardians of the Galaxy, for example, when asked about his walkman, Peter remarks "you don't do anything, you listen to it." (which, of course is doing something, but I digress). The point being that it's not really the wording that seems everywhere and nowhere, it's more the way it is said. Plenty of examples exist in which characters speak with this intonation and rhythm in a scene, stressing the word 'do' or making a similar corrective statement with this beat. For example, it was suggested that maybe it's from BTTF, the reason this seems plausible is not actually because of the words, but because of how Doc Brown says at the end of the film, "roads? Where we're going we don't need any roads." It's the same beat, rhythm. Think of the iconic line, "badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges." It's a familiar cadence. I think it becomes a mystery, a weird thing, because we are making it a mystery. That's my take on it, anyway. I mean, I use this cadence of speech in my classes a lot for comedic effect, so I found the entry interesting.

I can see what youre saying but that seems a bit of a stretch. I remember that line specifically and clearly I am not the only one. What you are saying would be the equivalent of suggesting everybody would recognise "I will be coming back" as a famous line. Thats technically close to a line but nobody would recognise it in the same way. That line is from something, my guess is it may have been from some tv show in the 90s which maybe isnt really watched any more. Maybe something which never got a dvd release so people cant as easily find it now

That story of that guy in the Underwater Welder was horrifying! Seeing the crab get sucked in was one thing, hearing of a human being getting sucked in was worse. I can only imagine what that day and other instances was like for him. And that theory about that woman possibly being in Jaws is intriguing. And I'm so sorry about that guy, Frank, who went missing. I hope he's okay. And that story about The Cowboy was just weird. The parents had a right to be pissed off, especially since some skeletons were found. Why would you be so calm during that time? I'd be freaking the fuck out. And why the hell would the killers in the Murder at Sea story not be caught? What the hell is wrong with these people? They killed innocent people at sea and go off scot-free! I fucking hate this world, I swear to God.

What if we're thinking of the "what does it do?" quote all wrong? Everyone's searching for a movie or TV show, but what if it's a book? When people read, our minds create an image to visualize what we're reading. This is how some people can get "lost in a book" or something. This means that people create scenarios of conversations from a book and convert that into something like a memory, which can easily be mistaken for an audiovisual source. Maybe we should start checkin out the books that we popular around that time? I'm totally writing this on a whim and haven't done very much research on the topic, so people might've already done this lol

Well, it's creepy how accurate that Szondi test was for me. I am going to have to run it on family and friends. I picked #3 and it was me to a T. My grandson has my personality to a T but it skipped a generation as my daughter is much more laid back and mellow than the two of us. We debate for fun and protest when she protests, "We're not fighting," usually in unison. It'd be interesting to see if grandson also picks 3 and what she'd and her fiancee pick. So making them do it, next time they're here for dinner.

"The Long Walk" is oddly plausible...while the spirit and her appearance are horror movie tropes, she doesn't actually seem to want anything besides accidentally trapping the protagonist in her space time flux. Creepy!

Come to think of it... the speed of her movement makes sense. It took her several hours to cross that street, did it not? It also took him several hours to get to the bar. So if he's locked in the time flux from the start, wouldn't that mean the time between gazes in her direction is actually far longer than he expected?

So the thing coming to mind for me for this quote is Van Helsing. I don't think I heard it in willy Wonka, but van helsing with hugh Jackman was the closest I could think and I don't think it is 100%. Scene: Van Helsing is in that secret orders headquarters (cant remember names) and he is being shown new weapons by Kahl? (The friar who is not yet a monk so he is allowed to curse all he wants... *dammit* ) and I think it might be the sun one or just some time in this scene, after the friar excitedly shows van helsing, hugh Jackman says, "so, what does it do?" And the friar (*I think*) says something a bit different that this quote but along the lines of "well what it does is..." and explains it, *but* then he asks "what is it for?" And I think this is where the friar says "well thats the beauty of it..." and then goes into a different set of examples he could use it in... but I'd have to rewatch to see. It was either that one or when homer on the simpsons is looking at something his brother herb was showing him and something along that quote was exchanged, but again, I'd have to watch the episode. I really can't think of where Wonka said it though. But I had a lot of things running through my head for that one lol each sounding more likely than the last 😅

"The Long Walk" probably an abduction. Missing time is one of the key signs of an abduction. The strange sighting was probably a sort of dream while they were "knocked out". The part where they were abducted was simply "erased" from their memory. The interesting thing about missing time when related to abductions is that most people either never notice the missing time, or if they do, they dismiss it in some manner and carry on. That is sort of the plan. If you have no memories of an abduction event and the only thing you notice is missing time, it's very hard to come to any conclusions as an abductee.
